Low Emission Vehicle Enterprise & Learning
LEVEL delivers skills training, knowledge transfer and business networking in emerging low carbon transport
technologies
Pilot Project
LEVEL delivers skills training,
• Collaboration between Cenex, CleanTech Business Ltd, Derby and Nottingham City Councils
• Funded through Nottingham Go Ultra Low Programme - OLEV
• 29 events over 3 years- mix of training courses, workshops, masterclasses, conferences
• Work with the cities of Derby (Toyota, Rolls Royce, Bombardier) and Nottingham to showcase and demonstrate LEV technologies
Pilot - Aims
1. To deliver a range of training courses and workshops on LCV cross-cutting technologies to meet the changing skills needs of the lowemission, low energy transport sector.
2. To pilot different models of training delivery ranging from tasters toaccredited qualifications and utilising a range of formats.
3. To build and support a cluster of highly networked SMEs,developing low emission transport-related products or services.

“EV, Connected and autonomous vehicles could create an additional 320,000 jobs in the UK, 25,000 of which would be in automotive manufacturing by 2030……. However, with major problems over recruitment and large skills shortages within the hybrid and electric sector, it is clear that unless a proactive strategy is undertaken the UK will not be able to support the
growth of low carbon emission vehicles”.
“Boosting Electric Vehicles in the Uk” – On the road to Sustainable Growth”. Prof Jim Saker, Loughborough University 2016
Skills and Training • Feasibility Study – Summer 15• Skill shortages – Number 1 business priority• Fast changing environment -need for cross-
disciplinary ‘engineering’ skills - hardware, software, electronics ...
• Employers demand for LEV training provision =1. Taster courses through to accredited- ‘technical’,
short industry-specific courses. 2. Flexible delivery-online learning, modular units,
technical resources, opportunities for peer-to-peer learning.
Business Networking & knowledge transfer
Businesses want to…….
• Learn about new technologies, trends and potential market opportunities from industry specialists.
• Network -develop new business contacts explore collaborations and strategic alliances leading to commercial opportunities.
• Have opportunities to showcase and demonstrate their products to industry audiences
• Find out what’s on offer - business support• However…. “serendipity need to be facilitated”
