London Docklands
The London Docklands is a semi-name which describes the eastern part of London. It is a place which has attracted a lot of tourist. Covering up to over 9 miles the London Docklands is a very well-known area, since it is also near the river Thames the London Docklands has a reputation for public attention. It has extreme financial businesses and has many hotels which have made bills of profit.
This is a overview of the London Docklands and we can clearly see the river Thames as well as popular places.
Dockland History
Docklands has been used in medieval times as a small harbour. However this place was not properly guarded and thieves where common. Docklands was readopted in 1696 and a new built place was set up to shelter 120 vessels. Security became tighter as a result of readoption. This lead to being a successful and major commercial place.
As times progressed, the London Docklands became more adjusted to its name; many more vessels were heading there. This provided jobs for people living in the Docklands.
The Docks in the 20th century
Docklands was built to be managed by private companies; however it was soon taken by the Port Of London who reconstructed the dock. However they faced real problems as world war two broke out and the Docks had to be closed due to the damage.
London Dock Redevelopment
The London Docks had to be redeveloped as it was wasting many space. It was brief and the city was once
again a major tourist attraction.
London Today
The London Dockland’s population has doubled and more people have been coming to live in the London Docklands. It has a cluster of skyscrapers and large public buildings to keep people interested in the Docklands. Commercial development is also on the rise and the cost of business rent in Dockland has risen to make more profits.
Future Developments
The London Docklands is planned to be a place where the Olympic stadium will be. It will take a long time completing the work however the establishers are
determined to get it done.
London 2012 Olympics
The London Olympics will take a while to complete and money is not exactly lax.
Sustainable Olympics
Sustainability means considering if an effect might have long or short terms damages.
The designers and architects designing London 2012 stadium claim that it will be sustainable. But with so much money and equipment that is a great doubt.
Problems London Docklands are facing
London Docklands are facing a lot of problems due to the pollution involved in the city. Most people
regard the docklands as a good working place with
good outcomes but the docklands are not in a state for praise. The rubbish they raise contributes with the rest of London and it takes a lot of work to get
rid of it.
