Tony: No, never.
Lin: Beijing Opera is one of our major traditional operas.
Tony: Oh, yes. I’ve heard about that.
Lin: The basic ways of performance include chang ( 唱 ), nian ( 念 ), zuo ( 做 ), and da ( 打 ). That is, singing, reciting, acting and fighting.

Tony: What is sheng?
Lin: It refers to male roles.
Tony: Oh. And dan?
Lin: Female roles are called dan.

Lin: They are male roles with facial paintings and rough personality.
Tony: The last one is chou. What is it?

David: So, how do you like living in Beijing?
Mary: I love the city. Beijing is such a great city.
David: Did you have any trouble getting used to the way
of life there?
Mary: Oh, sure, but only a little at first. I am pretty used
to it after some time.
David: This is the first time I’ve been in Beijing. What
place shall I visit first?
Mary: The Great Wall. It’s the wonder of ancient (古代的 )
China.
David: What else?
Mary: The Forbidden City, the Summer Palace and many
