Ross Parkinson asked about the matter of the funding of the project, with the current District programme being managed by Marilyn Millar. The method of funding will not change, rather the funds will be channelled through the LMRF. The LMRF will take on a sponsorship programme to raise funds for a medical bus. IPDG Rhys advised that the group were to apply for a $100K LCIF grant, to be matched on $ for $ basis by funds raised by the LMRF through the 2 Districts. Harry Tillyer asked for a rough estimate of costs associated with the best scenario to meet the needs of the project. At this stage, the committee are favouring a truck and trailer set up, but all other avenues are also being investigated. IPDG Rhys expects that $175K capital will be required. It is expected the 2 Districts would be able to raise these funds, together with the LCIF grant. There is a possibility that the RAA will be able to sponsor the project to meet on-going running costs.

congratulations to them. The Youth Exchange programme represents an excellent opportunity to host an overseas person, as a representative of Lions and welcome them to our communities. Leos – Dave welcomed Katerina – she will be attending Cabinet Meetings next year as an observer. Peace Poster – a great project. Please remember to advise Willy Weidenhofer if your Club is participating in this project. At the District C1 Convention, a popular choice award was provided to the best Peace Poster as voted by the Convention delegates. Mobility – continues along well. Lions Quest is still in the process of being upgraded, and is now being “Australianised”. It is not expected to be up and running until the 2016/17 year. As such DGE Dave is not appointing a District Chairman for this portfolio in 2015-16. Youth of the Year – District C1 conducted their District Final at their Convention. It seemed to be very successful. Ann Hughes noted that only 4 Clubs hold their Club finals prior to Christmas – holding a District Final at the District Convention would present some difficulties for Clubs and Schools, even if the aim is admirable. Ann noted there are now penalty points in certain circumstances, either for speaking too long, or not for long enough. She reminded those present that the timing commences from the time of the utterance of the competitors first noise. Please remember to read the section in the YOTY manual regarding reserve judges, who are now are involved. Please remember to recognise the judges with a certificate and a small gift. Ann encouraged Clubs to invite people to attend the Finals, both Club and Region, by sending written invitations. IPDG Rhys asked if financial assistance is available for participants from Darwin. Ann advised that return airfares are paid by the District, and a Club (at least this year) will be billeted by Gambier City Lions.

M Allinson / R Field CARRIED 12. General Business 28. 50/50 Pathway Programme 2VDGE Judy Glastonbury Per the attachment.
DG Ron has appointed 2VDGE Judy as the co-ordinator for the 50/50 Pathways programme. The project is facilitated through both the GMT and GLT programmes. The District Committee is working with the MD Committee, and this group has developed a brochure. A High Tea was held after the Cabinet Meeting, raising money for Carolyn’s Chemo Caps project. Judy and the committee are encouraging clubs host a High Tea for International Women’s Day, on March 8.
29. Digital Images for Aged Care Programme DGE Dave Thomas DGE Dave spoke in support of his report.
DG Ron has agreed to write to the proponent agreeing for him to approach C2 Clubs. LC Noarlunga Morphett Vale are already participating in this project, albeit in a slightly different format.
RS
30. Lions Disability Policy Geoff Baker Geoff Baker spoke to his report. He advised he has been working on the Policy, rewriting
it in terms of functionality, and has subsequently forwarded it to various people for comment.
31. Report to the 201C2 Cabinet on the observation of
poor Club management practice PDG Bob Radford
MOTION: Cabinet Officers proactively encourage clubs to send their incoming Officers to the next Club Officer Training Sessions as a matter of priority.
R Roberts / M Allinson CARRIED PDG Bob spoke in support of his report to Cabinet. He noted that on a number of occasions he has been asked to assist Clubs with problems that they have had. He feels that it is a terrible job that he has to do, and terrible what we do to each other. He requests that all members of the District Cabinet report issues with Clubs, rather than just leaving it to Zone Chairmen. He also asked that all Cabinet members encourage people to attend Club Officer training. Issues include: 1. Without fail this is always about a lack of understanding and adequate
communication between the parties concerned, including poorly worded emails –
pick up the phone and ring if you have an issue with another Club member.
ALL
Page 8
Lions Clubs International Multiple District 201, District C2 Minutes of the Cabinet Meeting held 7 February 2015 Page 8 of 10
ACTION
2. PDG Bob also believes that what brings the parties to this point is never the sole fault
of any one person.
3. The clubs that allow these issues are ones that do not follow basic meeting
procedural requirements and are usually poorly chaired or at least, have been in the
lead up to their difficulty.
4. They are in conflict on occasion with some legal requirements.
5. They are on occasion unaware of who their Public Officer is.
6. Their constitutional requirements are not always met and or are overlooked.
7. Treasurer’s reports are not in the best way presented to the members.
8. The possibility of new members joining a club in turmoil is unlikely.
9. The possibility of existing members resigning is high.
10. Membership issues are sometimes openly discussed at regular club meetings. These
are the province of the Board alone.
11. An adequate balance of social other activities is not maintained.
12. Club policy minutes or standing orders and changes to them not being circulated to all
members.
Alan Tregoweth thanked Bob for his past assistance. He noted that there is no point pushing problems to the background, hoping they will go away. Ivan noted that it is often difficult for Zone chairmen to observe these problems on official visits, so assistance of all Cabinet members is important. DGE Dave noted that there are moves at Multiple District level to address some of these problems via the GMT and GLT programmes.
32. Youth of the Year Training Brian Williams/PDG Ron Pascoe/Ann Hughes Cab Sec Ross advised the Cabinet that the Cabinet Executive have noted the contents of
the item from Brian Williams, and have decided not to take action at this point.
33. Youth of the Year Invitation PDG Ron Pascoe Interviews to be held in the morning, with the event to be held at the Rambler Football
Club, with plenty of parking available. District Final – hosted by Gambier City LC. 28/3/2015 - a general invite will be forwarded shortly via Cab Sec Ross.

34. District Centennial Co-ordinator Melinda Fogden Centennial Service Challenge currently underway. Apparently there will also be a
Centennial Membership Challenge. Judy advised that Clubs need to be careful to ensure that they are reporting Centennial project There will be a series of celebrations in the coming 4 years. Clipsal 2017 official charity investigation – a joint committee between C1 and C2 has been formed to develop the expression of interest to Clipsal to be the official charity. Lions will offer a giant community health screening – skin cancer screening, prostate cancer, eye screenings etc. Support is requested from the health programme chairmen to assist. Frank has noted that Lions are not a registered charity – and asked that we are careful how we promote ourselves. Any funds raised will need to be channelled through a

Foundation. Melinda has requested that the DG write to all Clubs asking them to appoint a Centennial Chairman, as a liaison person for Melinda, and to encourage participation in the Centennial Challenges. Ivan Mahoney noted that the Zone 11 Clubs are working together to form a programme of events for 2017.
35. District Convention 2016 2VDG Bryan advised the Cabinet that the District Executive received 2 nominations, one
each from Lions Club of Victor Harbor Port Elliot and Lions Club of Mount Gambier, to host the 2016 Convention. The District Executive have no doubt that both Clubs would be very capable of hosting the Convention, however recommend to the Cabinet that the cost for the 2016 Convention by the Lions Club of Victor Harbor Port Elliot.
MOTION: That the Lions Club of Victor Harbor Port Elliot be invited to host the 2016 Convention.

35. Multiple District Dues Increase DGE Dave Thomas Notes from Bruce Unwin, National Treasurer, in support of a MD fee increase:
INCREASE FEES. WHY? At the recent Council of Governors meeting it was brought to our attention that the financial position of the Multiple District (Lions Australia) is deteriorating. Income is not keeping up with expenses for a number of reasons. The Multiple District is the administrative arm of Lions in Australia and it facilitates and supports the efforts of our members in the Clubs and Foundations who perform community service – locally, nationally and internationally. The Multiple District does not raise monies from the public. Membership of the Multiple District is decreasing and has now dropped below 27,000 (down from 31,823 in 1990 and 27,790 in 2010) and this has resulted in a significant reduction in dues income. Of course, in this time our costs have increased steadily, in fact, real costs have risen faster than CPI. The bottom line is, we are on the bread line. Membership numbers are always under pressure and costs continue to rise. Our National Treasurer presented five year financial projections to the Council of Governors which indicate that, unless we can reverse the trend, the position of the Multiple District will become critical in the near future. With no central body how long do you think we as Lions Clubs would exist?? THE FIX !!! Firstly we must work on INCREASING MEMBERSHIP. If we all make a concerted effort on retaining the members we have, as well as continuing to find new members, the increased income from dues will help our bottom line. However, in the short term, A FEE INCREASE IS IMMINENT. A Motion is being brought to the 2015 National Convention in Newcastle to increase dues by $4.94 per member per annum. This equates to one cup of coffee per member per year. The following two years will also see increases of $3.00 per member per annum (less than a cup of coffee each year), and then CPI increases each year. Fellow Lions, the projections put together by our National Treasurer indicate that if we don’t take action NOW our national body is in danger of becoming insolvent – a situation
ALL

to be avoided at all costs. If this motion fails there may be no Lions in Australia in ten years’ time. What a shame! I urge all delegates attending the Newcastle Convention to support this Motion as the future of our national organisation depends on it.
35. PDG Corinne Stone Awards Cab Sec Ross advised the Cabinet of an email received from PDG Trevor Jacobs,
requesting a review of the naming of the Stonie Awards. PDG Trevor feels that the naming of them as Stonies does not reflect the true nature of the lady, nor her contribution to our organisation. The Cabinet noted that the application forms for these awards recognises Corinne Stone, in fact they are named the Corinne Stone Memorial Award. The abbreviation to Stonies is a colloquial term. The full name of the award will be reflected in the 2015/16 Directory.
13. Next Meeting The next meeting will be held on Saturday 23 May 2015 in Waikerie.
Joe Vikor will pass on some information to Cab Sec Ross regarding accommodation. The meeting will probably be held in the Lions Den on the Waikerie Riverfront.

Purpose
50/50 Pathway is the name of a Lions Clubs project that encourages all Australians to
join Lions and serve their community
The project's purpose is to increase Lions membership demographics to better reflect the
Australian population through age, gender and cultural diversity.
Project Profile
As a result of the Women's Workshop conducted immediately following the ANZI Pacific
Forum at the Gold Coast in September 2011, participants Ann Eldridge and Robyn
Falloon were interested in exploring programs which could stimulate interest in raising
the level of membership in Lions Clubs in Australia – particularly of women, young
people and young families.
Lions Clubs in Australia make up 19 distinct Districts. Each District has a District Global
Membership Team (GMT). District representatives of the GMT teams met together and
the way was paved to formulate strategy plans and budgets. The 50/50 Pathway Project
Team commenced work in 2012.
The 50/50 Pathway Logo:
The symbolic Lions logo is encompassed by:
• the elegant letter "V" representing vitality and vision
• 50/50 signifies balance and diversity which generates new energy and new thinking.
Page 19
• the name "Pathway" - we have identified a need to create recognisable Pathways into
Lions – especially for women and young people, many of whom are unaware that they
CAN join Lions
• the figure reaching forward represents regeneration and growth
• and the inclusion of the words “enlighten; empower; encourage" bring positive
nuances in reference to Lions throughout our communities.

50-50 Pathway Activity overview
The program consists of, but is not limited, to the following activities.
1. Internal forums where workshops are held with existing members. These workshop talk about the
program and promote change within clubs.
2. External Symposiums which work with local councils and other service groups in an area to attract
non lions to a project in a community that they can help with in some way.
3. Business Breakfasts or events – Organisation of a breakfast or events attracting business women to
come together, raise awareness and join a club.
4. Family Fun Days – promote an activity in the community which brings together existing Lions clubs
to run a fun day for women and families which will raise money, raise awareness, promote Lions and
encourage membership.
5. Special Interest groups – Be on the lookout for groups of women and families who can come
together with their interests and form a group of Lions – such as a Quilting group which also raises
money from the sale of their handiwork etc.
6. Training- Work with the GLT to hold leadership training sessions which will give more women and
other people confidence to take on leadership roles within their clubs. Presentation skills and
Running Meetings are two suggested training workshops
7. High Tea on International Women’s Day – Hold a high tea promoting Lions and fundraising for
women’s causes. Invite non lions to attend and have guest speakers which will encourage and
promote community activity.
8. Community Connector meeting which is a hybrid of an internal forum and external symposium
Note that the first five dot points are points that can easily be undertaken by individule Clubs ond
Zones.
Role of the MD 201 Lions 50 50 Pathway Committee
1. Continue to update the website and social media which will promote all activities involving the
Pathway
2. Ensure use of standard branding and materials
3. Continue fundraising through pin sales
4. Write and send out the syllabus material for all the events
5. Train the trainer material – write a program to train people in each District
6. Encourage each District to have a Lions 50 50 Pathway team that will run the program within their
District and perhaps across Districts
7. Continue to provide statistics showing movement across the country.
This program is not a panacea for increasing membership and we will not see instant results. In fact it is a
hybrid of existing concepts that are presented in a different way.

Report No 01
Report Date Report for the Cabinet Meeting 23rd May, 2015
Officer District Governor Ron Sargent
Portfolio District Governor
I am pleased to report by the end of March Kath and I have visited 55 Clubs with Dave and Bryan visiting 7 more on my behalf. As well as this, we have had the pleasure of attending 5 Birthday parties – a 50th at Alice Springs, another 50th at Renmark, and Naracoorte, a 30th at Irymple, and a 25th at the McLaren Districts Club. What an experience this has all been. I guess we are all insular within our own Club, and have very little knowledge of what is going on around us until we get the opportunity that Kath and I have had this year.
At the time of writing this report I can tell you that we are exactly the same in numbers as we were at the beginning of this Lions year. That is 1520 members. By the time this report is published 4 will be added as a result of a Branch Club formed at Mt. Compass. A further 14 will have been added as a result of a Branch Club at Katherine. I was hoping to fly to Katherine and perform the Charter in this year but the most likely date is now the 1st July.
Denis Haseldine has done a magnificent job, together with his Membership team in making these two Branch Clubs possible. A further one being worked on is at Glenelg.
It is also likely that individual Clubs will show an increase in numbers. Only a few days ago I was told that a further 5 wish to join my own Club of Goolwa. This Club has grown from 27 some two years ago, to 36 now and soon to be 41 or 42. It goes to show how important it is to have the right members, and the right membership Chairman. I say the right members realising most are. Just occasionally a person is accepted by the board of a Club who proves their down fall and the reason for members leaving.
The other that is so important is the right projects, and donating to that right project. Just to give one example, Broken Hill provided finance to the local Hospital for a “Cuddle Cot” to be used for still born babies. This gives the parents, and perhaps Grand Parents more time to spend with their baby before it is removed. I had the privilege of inducting 3 young ladies who had heard of this project, and were inspired to join as a result.
Another hosted by my Club was “Voice of the Youth” which is run on similar lines to the Youth of the Year excepting that it is for Primary aged young children. Six young ladies participated, and it was interesting to hear their thoughts, particularly on social media, and even cyber bullying. One young girl said that some even think it funny. Obviously she did not think this way.
The last sentence makes me so aware that our Club Presidents and leading members need training. If not this year please all encourage your Club Officers to attend training next year. Having visited so many Clubs, many Presidents do a great job but others need help and could have done much better if they had received such training.
Only recently an email came through from our International President Joe Preston advising that world-wide we have now passed the 1.4 million members. This is a first for 15 years. Australia is a few short of what we were at the beginning of this year, and this will be discussed again at the next Council meetings to be held in Newcastle. I expect to be able to expand on this at our Cabinet meeting.
At this stage, I must thank all those who have supported me, during this year. It has been an excellent one. I was selected to be your future District Governor at the Renmark Convention. It was a job that I never thought I was up to, but with the support of so many excellent members I believe we have achieved most that we set out to do.

Report No 2
Report Date 8/5/15
Officer Dave Thomas
Portfolio District Governor Elect
I have just travelled back from Newcastle where I attended both the 2015 MD Convention and had my last three days of DG training on Aussie soil. My next step towards DG takes place in a few weeks time when I travel to Honolulu where myself and 18 other DGE’s from Australia join nearly 800 DGE’s from around the world for our last 3 days training and on the 1st of July we will be officially installed as DG’s in our fantastic Lions Organisation. From then on it is action stations and into a year that all previous DG’s describe as one of the best years of mine and Margie lives.
On this point, I would ask all Lions members who have the appropriate qualifications to give some serious thought to taking a similar course of action and consider nominating for the position of 2VDG at the Tatachilla Convention in October this year. It is a great challenge and experience and one where you can make a difference and further help our District to progress. Please feel free to talk with me if you want further information.
On the subject of promotions to higher positions in Lions, I also would like to advise you that at next year’s MD Convention in Echuca, there will be a vote for the position of International Director for the Constitutional Area Seven of which we are a part, along with New Zealand, Indonesia and Pacific Islands. Australia will have two consecutive periods to elect an International Director, and I urge some of our more senior and qualified Lions in 201C2 to also consider this challenge and have a go. This is not an easy position and there is a lot of travel both in our area and the wider world wide Lions areas BUT what a great experience it would be. It is many years since there has been an International Director from South Australia, so give it a go.
I will present a verbal report covering the goals and aims for the year ahead at the Waikerie Cabinet meeting.

Leadership
Details of the coming Lions year incoming officers training has been distributed to all clubs. I would urge all relevant incoming officers regardless of experience, to attend at least one of these sessions. Members with prior experience in a position are encouraged to contribute to the content of a training session thus making the whole presentation much more inclusive which, hopefully, will deliver much better outcomes.
All incoming officers have taken on a leadership role within their respective clubs and they are to be congratulated on accepting this responsibility. Part of being a successful leader is the development of other leaders.
Leadership does not come naturally to most of us. This raises the old question of “Are leaders born or are they made.” I guess the truth lies somewhere between these two extremes. I personally believe that regardless of what might be in our genes, attending development forums and training institutes will be of benefit to all members.
Wanting to be successful is a great starting point for all incoming club and/or district officers. This desire should provide the necessary impetus that encourages members to take the relevant steps that will bring about the success that is sought after. It stands to reason that not everybody will be as successful as they might wish to be. This may be due to a whole number of matters including many which we have no control over such as health etc.
Leadership training can be undertaken via a number of mediums. It is not all about forums and Institutes. Relevant training can be undertaken via the Lions Leadership Resource Centre where a large selection of topics exit for study by members. Leadership podcasts can be listened to. These include many topics relevant to club members. Webinars are regularly held on a wide variety of topics and these are a great source of information.
To access many of these facilities is as easy as visiting the Lions Learning Centre within the Leadership Resource Centre where you will need to create a personal account in your own name. All you need for this is your Lions membership number and a password of your own choosing.
Go to it folks.
Before you become a leader, success is all about growing yourself.
When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.

District C2 was very ably represented by two fine young ladies.
Lily Thornley represented Gambier City Lions Club in the Youth of the Year National Final. Although unsuccessful, Lily proved a very worthy finalist.
The Leo of the Year was announced as Katerina Blekic from the Sunraysia Leo Club. Furthermore, Leo Katerina also won the public speaking competition.
We are indeed, very proud of these fine young ladies. Our sincerest congratulations go to Lily and Katerina.
This report is my last to the District C2 Cabinet. I am retiring from Cabinet after 13 continuous years, during which time I have undertaken the Cabinet Secretary role for six years and Assistant Cabinet Secretary for two years.
It has been an absolute pleasure to be associated with our fine Cabinet Officers over the years and thank you individually and collectively for your cooperation and goodwill. I wish to express my sincerest appreciation of our District Governors, who have had the confidence to enlist me as the Cabinet Secretary. I am indeed privileged by their consideration and the opportunity to serve the C2 Cabinet. I have benefitted immensely from the knowledge and skills I have gained. I am absolutely inspired by the dedication on my Cabinet colleagues.
May I wish Cheryle the very best for the years ahead as Cabinet Secretary. Furthermore, I thank her sincerely for her cooperation and goodwill over the years. CP is a generous and caring young lady who deserves our highest commendation.
Finally I express sincerest appreciation to District Governor Ron Sargent for his consideration and cooperation throughout the year. Furthermore, I wish DGE Dave and his Cabinet team every success in 2015 – 16.

Club issues
I concur with the advice provided at the last Cabinet meeting by PDG Bob Radford regarding membership in Clubs. Membership of a Club is solely the province of the Board. Membership of a member or potential member should NOT be discussed at Club meetings.
Unfortunately I have had to provide advice on a number of occasions this year to Clubs and to Zone Chairpersons regarding membership issues. I find this disappointing, but recognise that there are often personality clashes. Please encourage all Presidents Elect to undertake training, as I know that this will be highlighted by 1VDGE Bryan is these sessions.
My mentor
I acknowledge and thank Ross Parkinson for his outstanding service to this District over the past 13 years, with many of these contributing in a stellar fashion as Cabinet Secretary and Assistant Cabinet Secretary. I also thank Lioness Sue for her steadfast support of Ross, and the cheerfulness in which she answers the phone at all times of the day and night!
Ross has been a source of inspiration to me in the way he quietly goes about his Lions business, and a mentor in many ways of the Lions organisation. I will miss his advice on Cabinet matters in the future.
Thank you Ross – you are truly a magnificent Lion, and a true friend to many.
I also thank DG Ron for the pleasure of serving this great District in such a challenging role, and to all members of the Cabinet and District Chairmen for their support. I look forward to working with many of you in the coming year.

New member inducted at April work meeting, however membership remains at 55, as one long serving member resigned in March.
In the later part of this Lion’s year, venues for both work and dinner meetings, have had to be changed. Venue for work meetings has been set, but dinner meeting venue is yet to be settled.
This year to date, 80 service activities have been carried out, number of Lion’s hours contributed 3898, funds raised $62,813. Activities fund allocation will be carried out in May, although $2400, has been donated to a special project.
Incoming Board members have been encouraged to attend training day in May. Club Handover will be Saturday 20th June, to be conducted by PDG G. Davis.
Early in April I was called upon to have discussions with the Club President, due to a potential club membership being denied by the Board. After consultation with DG, Constitution and By-Laws Chair, and Bill Holmes, it was agreed that the Board had carried out its duty in a correct and proper manner.

Clubs 30th Charter Dinner was held in March, was well attended by 50, past and present members. Assistance was given to the local Area School with their Anzac Project, depicting 10 Doors, showing different stages of the war. The final result is a very life-like display.
The Club will also be financially supporting the School Social Justice Fund. Many students are experiencing various hardships.
Three new members were inducted at the April meeting. Two members are transferring to the Loxton Club, total new members for the year is 7.
Two major projects carried out from February to April, requiring a larger than normal number of members to assist, 5 tents needed to be erected and dismantled in a short period., plus the bagging of 100 bags of sheep shot.
Membership attendance is encouraging running at 80%. July to April project hours total 900. New Board members have been encouraged to attend May training day. Club Handover will be Monday 6th July, to be conducted by Zone Chairman, David Virgo.

Zone took on a new community project where the clubs will be buying a book called “The Kanceroo” which is aimed at trying to help people with cancer understand what is going on. The book has been written by a local Lion who has had to deal with cancer himself. The books will be distributed to schools and libraries etc free of charge. Cost of the book is $16 with $6 per book going to childhood cancer research.
We had PDG Ron Pasco give a run down on ALF Grants and Awards that are available and what the criteria’s are for each grant.
Meeting was started at 3.00pm and finished at 5.00pm then we had an evening meal together with our partners. The idea of some fellowship after the meeting worked very well.
Membership for the zone is up by 2 which has been a great effort given some of the issues some clubs have gone through and are now moving ahead.
I thank DG Ron for asking me to be on his cabinet. It has been challenging, very rewarding and have caught up with and met a lot of good people along the way. It has been a privilege to serve, thank you

The Clubs in Zone 11 are continuing to work with council to have a project for centennial of Lions in 2017.
The Lioness Club have continued to have a strong presence in our local community ,their involvement with delivering Library books to the housebound, sunset kitchen and helping new migrants in our community with reading are great community projects.
After almost 10 years on cabinet I see many of the clubs that have problems are ones that do not follow meeting procedure or have members with big egos that do not want to see change in their clubs.
Congratulations DG Ron on your leadership this year, I have enjoyed being on you cabinet.

This is a club that has been experiencing membership problems for some 2.5years dating back to personality conflicts in the club and whilst Past President Peter Marks has done a good job of bonding the club last year, they are still finding it hard to attract members.
Barmera Lions, being small in numbers, are very active on the ground – Projects for this year include; Barmera Markets; Blue bird 50th anniversary; Light the Night cancer fundraiser; Christmas Pageant; Christmas party for Barmera senior citizens; Australia Breakfast; plus the Barmera RV Park.
Nominations for 2015-16 were filled with Lion PP Peter Marks once again taking the helm. I wish him and the club all the best for next year.

Another club that is finding the attraction of new members very hard work. The 14 members are made up from 7 families. The club recently lost 3 members, but the good news is that they have 3 new members due to be inducted by yours truly at the club’s changeover night. Two members have received recognition from Lions International, being Lion Trevor Bedson for 40 years and Lion Alan Ling for 30 years service.
Club projects include; Prior to the October long weekend the club installed four (4) barbecues at the Lions Park. The club finds it very hard to do any work at the park as they have to undergo OHS training by Council personnel with risk assessment etc, prior to undertaking any work. It goes on deaf ears when they try to explain that the club has their own insurance and have a safety officer.

Morgan Lions are in a desperate situation with their membership, which currently stands at 10, with 7 active and 3 associate members, plus one life member who is permanently in aged care at Waikerie. They also have 3 friends of Lions who help out when needed, but will not join because of the cost of membership.
Recently, there was a membership drive headed by GMT Leader Denis Haseldine, which included newspaper articles before and after Lions activities, including the very successful two day skin cancer screening that resulted in 95 persons screened, with 24 of these referred to a doctor for a follow up.
After the Easter membership drive, which attracted 13 names of potential members (6 individuals and 3 couples), President Margaret Vandeleur and Membership Chairman Ernie Asplin will call on these people and hopefully this will result in some new members.

This is another club that needs new members. The membership number is OK, but most members are on the wrong side of 65. The club is also finding it hard to attract new members, due to the cost of membership. In fact, the club is looking at losing 3 members (becoming Friends of Lions) because of cost, although the club just inducted 2 new members.
The club ran a very successful Christmas Pageant, with the SA Police Band leading a parade of 30 floats. There were also side shows and food stalls that did a roaring business.
The club continues to run its monthly auction at the Riverfront, plus catering for such groups as the Black Dog riders and Echuca skiers.

The Club Secretary now has access to MyLCI and is currently entering this year's activities and Lions hours. In addition, she has also updated membership numbers, unfortunately dropping 2 members.
The President has concerns for their current membership numbers. Even though on paper they have 16 members. Six are currently “Lions at Large”, who are expected to either transfer or drop their membership. If the remaining members only 6-7 are active and available for project work. 3 of which are available at any time. The President is currently exploring a number of possibilities for future members, such as the local bowl club.
At this point in time, the Club does not want GMT or GLT involvement; maybe in the new Lions year with the new President.

Portfolio Fundraising Co-ordinator
I wish to thank DG Ron for the opportunity to serve as the Fundraising Coordinator for 2014-15.
PDG Ron Pascoe, PDG David Savage, Tony Matthews and Ken McAloon have all worked tirelessly .I urge all clubs to consider ALF and LCIF when doing their disbursements.
Christmas Cakes
Clubs are reminded to provide cake outlet details to the Cake Chairperson Tony as this enables him to provide information to customers.
Sales
District C2
27 Clubs (44.26%) had an increase in Cakes and Puddings purchased.
6 (Six) (9.84%) Clubs maintained the same sales as last year.
22 Clubs (36.06%) had a decrease in Cakes and Puddings purchased.
6 (Six) 9.84% Clubs unfortunately did not purchase and Cakes or Puddings
These figures however, may not reflect the Actual Club Sales owing to carry over stock from last year that the Clubs had on hand and sold this last year.
According to the National Statistics provided, C2 was fifth out of the 19 Districts purchasing some 13.306% of the National Sales with only 9.975% of Clubs.
PUBLICITY
During this last year’s selling season Tony received the following requests and responded accordingly
Emails 45, From National Cake Coordinator and direct, Phone Text 2, Hot line 100, Other phone 24
Lions Web site 54, CSA’s 24 (Community Service Announcements i.e. radio, TV, Print)
Returning customers 15, Google by family 1
Pay Way Card
Clubs have embraced the new payment method congratulations - It WORKS!! With only three “complaints” two of these resulted in the Post Office, Post agencies claiming not to know anything regarding the procedure. Top Taste took action and the problem was resolved with the Bank and Australia Post intervening. The third Club having changed its postal address without notifying any one.
Stock
Clubs carried stock over from last year resulting in slightly lower orders to Top Taste not reflected in the sale figures.
Deliveries
A number of Clubs have commented on the length of time i.e. 10 days it takes for deliveries to occur from placing order to receiving the stock.
Page 73
Lions Clubs International Multiple District 201, District C2 Agenda for the Cabinet Meeting to be held 23 May 2015
It should be remembered that the time taken from receipt of your order to delivery is 10 days. The order has to be processed by Top Taste, forwarded on to the Carrier DHL, who then processes the paperwork into DHL format, picks the order, and despatches the order to the closest DHL distribution location. E.g. cakes for SA have to be delivered to the Adelaide warehouse from Victoria. The Club is then contacted with a delivery date and in some cases in the country the delivery is sub contracted to local carriers again taking valuable time. This is why it takes ten days Lions please respect this.
Account Payments
Clubs are reminded of their obligation to pay the accounts by 25th Jan 2015.
Mints Clubs are urged to improve their Mint and Fudge outlets.
C2 is not performing as well as other Districts and every effort should be made to improve this.

ALF
Lions Clubs of Murray Bridge, Goolwa and Kingston SE have been successful in applying for ALF General Grants. Murray Bridge received $810 for a Bed Wetting Monitor Alarm for Murray Mallee Community Health, Goolwa received $2484 for a Mini Cutter for the Goolwa Country Fire Brigade and Kingston SE received $7000 for Air Conditioners for Kingston Retirement Village.
Over the past few months, I have attended Zone meetings at Beachport, Mount Gambier and Mannum as well as a Club meeting at Broken Hill to give presentations regarding ALF. I believe that these have been worthwhile; it has given me a chance to inform Lions about ALF, and to answer questions that Lions may have. I hope to be able to visit other Zones and Zone 13 clubs in 2015-16.
Club have been prepared to give me a budget to cover some costs incurred in making these visits.
Recommendation: That the Cabinet Secretary write to Mildura Lions Club thanking them for their financial support for the District ALF Chairman’s visiting program
PDG Ron Pascoe
LCIF
District C2 Clubs continue to accumulate funds with LCIF Donor Services. As at 31st March, 2015 the total stood at $205,174.79 up by $4,055.62 over the previous reporting period. Clubs need to take advantage of their generosity and consider awarding MJF’s and PMJF’s to deserved Lions or community members.
So far this year, LCIF report date 6/04/2015, 29 out of 61, or 47.54% of C2 Clubs have contributed $21,742.68 to LCIF. This represents an increase of 7 Clubs or 11.00%, in the last three months. I sincerely hope we can keep this going as our target of $36,000.00 is now within reach. It’s important to realise that funds donated to LCIF are used to fund projects all around the world and this includes Australia.
In the last 5 years more than US$1.5 million in LCIF Grants have been provided to Australian Lions. For example, this year, LCIF has provided a US$20,000 Recovery Grant for Drought Relief to six Australian Districts, Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4, N1 and N4, to set up a counselling program with Optum, a global network of counsellors and psychologists, totalling US$120,000. LCIF has also provided assistance for the SA and Victorian bushfires victims and for those impacted by the devastation caused by cyclone Marcia.
Page 74
Lions Clubs International Multiple District 201, District C2 Agenda for the Cabinet Meeting to be held 23 May 2015
Standard (Matching Grants) have also been made available to C2 for air conditioners (US$30,000) for Lions Cancer Lodges and W2 for a Retinal Imaging Microscope (US$71,198) to name just a couple.
I remind Cabinet Officers that at the Board meeting held in Toronto, earlier this year, the maximum amount for a LCIF Standard (Matching) Grant was increased by US$25,000 to US$100,000. Please make this known to our Clubs.
Also please assist me to remind Clubs that the Lions Family around the world is endeavouring to reach an annual donation base of “$50 million in LCIF’s 50th year in 2018”. I know our Clubs will rise to the occasion.
The “One Shot, One Life - Lions Measles Initiative” is ongoing and I ask every Club in C2 to make a donation to help eliminate this terrible disease and save the lives of countless children. Every dollar donated saves two children from this deadly disease.
Finally, after six years as MD201 appointed District C2 LCIF Coordinator, I have decided that I need a break and will be handing over responsibility for this most important portfolio to PDG Trevor Jacobs. Trevor will take the reins from July 1. I wish him well and trust he finds it as rewarding and as special as I have done.
I thank all the District Governors during the past 6 years for allowing me to serve as the LCIF Coordinator for C2. It has been a real pleasure.

Recycle for Sight - Anne Binns
All clubs including the new branch club of Mt Compass continue to support the program for which thanks are extended. As a project recycle for sight is easy to manage and provides a high profile for participating clubs. It is difficult to quantify the actual value of the donated glasses to the recipients in the Pacific Islands and Asia Pacific but they continue to make an immense contribution to their way of life. My sincere thanks for the opportunity to be a part of this dynamic Lions project over the past 2 years.
Emergency Medical Information Book - Bernie Donohue
All clubs in MD 201 with a membership of over 30 members will receive 4 EMI books along with a letter explaining the reasons and benefits of the program. So far SA and WA have been covered. A display booth will be set up at the MD convention. To date the total books distributed amount to 206,750.
Hearing Dogs - Deane Evans.
Visits have continued to several local primary schools re the Front Row Pro classroom sound system. Many enquires have been followed up not only about the sound system but also the provision of hearing dogs as well. The Hearing Dogs calendar will be on sale at the Newcastle MD Convention. It should be noted that only dogs in training appear in the calendar.
Almoner, Isolated Patient Care, Skin Cancer Screening - Marilyn Millar
No requests have been made in the last 3 months for any assistance provided by the Isolated Patients program however members are reminded of its availability. Successful skin cancer screenings have recently occurred at Murray Bridge and Morgan. These bring the total screenings in C2 to over 2000 people with a referral rate of 28%. My thanks to DG Ron and cabinet members for their support of the project.

Very poor response from Zone chairmen to my offer of being available to advocate on behalf of ALDAF activities during their club visits. Foundation material is now being displayed in a number of public libraries that double as High School and TAFE libraries. Establishing contact with SAPOL is still being pursued.
Cancer Lodges Support Group - Ivan Mahoney
The last 9 air conditioner units are being installed. It was hoped to have had this work completed by the end of March but this was not possible owing to rooms not being vacated. The Lions Cancer Lodges Support group expresses its most sincere thanks to those members who have support the program.

Foodbank and L.E.H.P. - Mick Millar
The proposed LEHP partnership with the Lions Save Sight Institute in Sydney did not proceed. This has caused some delay in the production of advertising material but this should be available at the MD Convention.. LEHP has now partnered with the Centre for Eye Health in Sydney which is attached to the University of NSW. Clubs are urged to invite LEHP ambassadors to deliver presentations at club meetings.
Clubs are also urged to consider making donations to Foodbank via their annual disbursements.

Portfolio Recycle for Sight
All clubs continue to support the program and are quite autonomous with their management of glasses collection and postage to the Queensland headquarters.
Willunga Lions Club has initiated a formation of a Branch Club in Mt Compass and although the formation is not complete, the recently inducted members have embraced Recycle for Sight and have set up collection sites in Mt Compass. This has given the new members a higher profile using the R4S collection boxes and stickers.
The project continues to operate as an easy to manage and high profile Lions awareness activity. The continued support of sponsors Australia Post is appreciated by participating Clubs. The value of the donated glasses to the recipients in the various Pacific Island and Asia Pacific regions is possibly difficult for the donating Clubs to realise, but it is an immense contribution.
My thanks for the opportunity to be part of this dynamic Lions project over the last 2 years.

Saving Aussie Lives through Skin Cancer Screening
Australia is the skin cancer capital of the world, with a rate four times higher than the United States or Canada. One in two Australian men and one in three women will be diagnosed with skin cancer. There are over 1,400 deaths from melanomas alone each year. Early diagnosis of skin cancers is critical to successful treatment because they can grow rapidly.
For example, if a melanoma of less than 0.7mm thickness on your skin is treated, you have a 95% chance of a normal life span. But, if not diagnosed and treated early, it can grow in just a few months to a depth of more than 4mm, by when patients have a less than 50% chance of living a further 5 years. The direct cost to the Australian health system is more than $1 billion a year. The loss to the Australian economy from lost productivity can conservatively be estimated at more than $2 billion a year.
Free screening programs to provide early detection have been running in Western Australia since 1990 through the WA Lions Cancer lnstitute with the volunteer assistance of plastic surgeons, dermatologists, GPs, dermographers and nurses.
Some of the WA screenings have been run in conjunction with the RFDS "On the Road' Program for people living in the remote Pilbara and Esperance regions; with corporate support from the likes of BHP Billiton, the Pilbara Development Commission and the Gold Fields Australia Foundation.
Since 2011 we have used two WA vehicles similar and the expertise they have in WA to undertake screenings in South Australia and most recently in Darwin. When screenings are scheduled, they are commonly booked out in advance.
Both here and in WA results show a consistent, astonishing and horrific 29% referral rate to general practitioners and specialists.
This alarming rate of referrals reinforces the need for promotion of regular skin checks, increased opportunity for people to access skin screening services, and ongoing education about prevention of skin cancer.
ln view of the demand for and results of skin cancer screenings to date, the Cabinets of both C1 and C2 consider it worthwhile to expand this activity. To date we have been heavily reliant on the support and assistance of the WA Lions Cancer lnstitute. Whilst this support will continue we need to do more to help ourselves.
Thus the two Cabinets have asked their Lions Medical Research Foundation (LMRF) to develop the proposal that we C Districts Lions, covering South Australia, the Northern Territory, and the western edges of Victoria and NSW, build and operate, in conjunction with the WA Lions Cancer lnstitute, a mobile skin cancer screening vehicle (bus or truck and trailer as depicted below) at a capital cost of $175,000 and an annual running cost of $70,000.
Lions Clubs International Multiple District 201, District C2 Agenda for the Cabinet Meeting to be held 23 May 2015
To this end, the LMRF asks that a letter similar to the attached draft below be sent to all C2 Clubs to establish the support – both financial and in kind – that can be anticipated for the proposal.

To date we have been heavily reliant on the support and assistance of the WA Lions Cancer lnstitute. Whilst this support will continue we need to do more to help ourselves.
Based on the WA experience it would seem that the best way forward is to acquire a mobile unit similar to those pictured below. The initial capital cost involved would $175,000, together with ongoing costs in the order $70,000 pa. We would seek ALF and LClF grants which would cover a little more than 50% of the initial cost. ln addition we anticipate obtaining some commercial sponsorship.
To assist your Cabinet in deciding whether to proceed with a mobile unit would you please let us know whether your club –
(a) Would consider financial support for the project i.e. initial capital cost and/or ongoing running costs
(b) Has any members with an HR class driver’s licence who would be available to assist by
driving the unit
(c) Members are aware of any doctors or nurses who would be interested to train as a scanner
- the course takes approx. 3 weeks (on line) followed by 1,000 observations. Trained persons are expected to be available 2/3 weekends pa for 2 years.
Your response would be appreciated no later than 30th June to Noel O'Brien, Convenor, Skin Cancer Testing, 17 Brandreth St, Tusmore SA 5065.

This is an outstanding opportunity for we C District Lions to use our greatest strengths – our presence in all corners of our huge Districts - two of the largest in the Lions' world - and our reputation as Lions, to partner with the trained volunteers of Lions in a major health initiative to benefit all Australians in SA, NT, and the western edges of NSW and Victoria; at a cost that is a fraction of what such an initiative would otherwise take to tackle a fatal disease that is of epidemic proportions.

30th March 2015
Dear President and fellow members of the Lions family,
Here in Australia we thankfully live in a fortuitous country where we enjoy in international terms a good standard of living, with modern conveniences and good services.
For those of you who have had the opportunity to see non westernised countries you will appreciate the difference in living standards and available services to the community.
lrrespective of this, each jurisdiction has its own distinct and unique health challenges and obviously the need for the provision of health services to meet those needs.
Due to the increasing longevity of our population and the continual exposure to modern lifestyles and environment we are faced today with a different set of health and chronic ongoing disorders.
We are more often confronted by e.g. cancers in all its many forms and types, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and all its complications, neurological disorders, dementias, inflammatory and auto-immune diseases as well as an increasing range of mental health conditions.
Today, the provision of medical and health care is very much reliant on effective and successful research. New interventions increasingly can only be implemented with successful and properly conducted research.
We are fortunate here in South Australia in that we have an ever evolving research culture and capacity. But good research takes time, effort and lots of funds.
Here at the Foundation, we are proud of our achievements in supporting young and new researchers in this State in this ever important endeavour. May I take this opportunity to thank PDG Robert Dewell for his selfless and expert leadership of the Foundation over the past many years. Robert continues to be an advisor to the foundation.
We thank you for your past assistance, however as there is an ever increasing need we need to do more in not only supporting new researchers but also to support ongoing and continuing research, which ultimately will assist us, our loved ones and our world communities.
We need your assistance and contributions now more than ever as there is still very much to do. Please dig deep for this very essential research need. We appeal to not only our Lions Clubs but also to each and everyone.
Please help us to help others. Please support us now. Thank you in your consideration.
With much appreciation. Wishing you, your club, and members the very best health and happiness.
Yours sincerely

Youth Committee
Report No 24
Report Date 8/5/2014
Officer DGE Dave Thomas
Portfolio Youth Co-ordinator
I must start this report by saying with some sad news. Those of you who for whatever reason did not
make it too a Youth of the Year Competition whether it be Club, Region, District, State or National, and
those that weren’t lucky enough to be in Newcastle to watch the Leos competition - BAD LUCK.
I know that not everyone can get to these competitions, those that can but don’t really do miss out on
an extraordinary display put on by the future leaders of our country (hopefully some might also join
Lions on the way) YOTY is truly the Diamond in the Lions Crown at conventions and well worth the
effort to see so start saving for Echuca next year!
Grant High School (Mt Gambier) student Lily Thornley represented the “C” Districts this year and was up
against very strong competition. Whilst she was not successful overall (with the winner being a young
man from W.A.) she certainly did not disgrace herself and it was great to see her smiling face from start
to finish.
It was also fabulous to see one of our young leaders in the 201 C2 District, Leo Katerina Blekic again
competing at the National level, this time in the LEO of the year and a great result it was with Katerina
winning both the National Public Speaking Prize and also the overall Competition. I think it is fair to say
that Katerina is not a naturally gifted public speaker but over the last few years her confidence, poise
and maturity has grown and she is now a valuable member of the District. Well done to her and her
family who again continue to support her in her endeavours.
Well done also to the Gambier City Club, Millicent Lioness Club and Murray Bridge Lions Club who all
hosted finals this year. The State Final at Murray Bridge was a great success with 89 people in
attendance to watch and glowing reports followed on from the night from C1 & C2.
Thanks also must go to YOTY Chair, Ann Hughes who continues to drive the program in our District. I
know she is very keen to see some training take place in the coming year (which will happen). Despite
Ann’s best efforts, there are still some issues occurring that shouldn’t (even with some of our more
experienced clubs such as not enough judges and or time keepers, incorrect or lack of proper paper
work etc.) With National YOTY looking at introducing 3 year terms for State Chairs AND ongoing training
at that level, it stands to reason we should be doing the same.
Youth Exchange:-
Chairman John Hodgson is still frustrated at the lack of involvement our District has with this program, a
problem shared in most other Districts. IT is hoped this can be rectified in the coming years as failure to
do so may see this program simply fall over.
LEOS:
See state coordinators report.
Page 84
Lions Clubs International Multiple District 201, District C2 Agenda for the Cabinet Meeting to be held 23 May 2015
PEACE POSTER:-Nothing to report at this time.
ALCMF:-
Still going well but at this time nothing significant to report. At Newcastle Convention there was an
emotional and stirring presentation on this and the newly released DVD will be on display at the
Waikerie Cabinet meeting.
QUEST:-
There is some positive news coming out of Newcastle that this program is starting to move forward with
the translation from ‘Yankee’ to ‘Oz”. And whilst this seems to have taken forever to get to that stage,
our State Chairman, Bronte Cameron is pretty certain things are now on the way and we should be able
to provide further positive info in a few months’ time.

Portfolio Youth of the Year
All the finals are now completed with a number of exceptional contestants attending at all levels. This has boosted competition among like teenagers. Once again, C2 has seen three new clubs emerge with enthusiasm to become involved, despite four clubs unable to attract custom from their schools., we had 23 clubs enter at Club level. There were 2 new clubs to brave tackling a Regional final and having attended both events felt both club YOTY Chairmen did a sterling job. Well done to the other three clubs who also ran a Club final. The District Final was a credit to Wilf Nitschke who soldiered on despite some hindrances.
This year has also met with frustration due to a number of factors. Most clubs experience little difficulty sourcing candidates, organising an event to suit their club, get their forms in on time after the event and so on. However, there are those that seem to ignore the rules in the manuals or the notes issued which actually cover every possible point to running any final – my notes work. Club YOTY Chairmen/coordinators do have responsibilities and obligations as do the students and the judges. Most know them, others who are new to the job will need to prepare better. Some couldn’t care less and may have been “thrown” into the job as a last resort. I will include a 1 – pager in the packs which will cover the “have to” items.
Issues of concern –
Club YOTY Chairmen –
a) Lack to read the notes and manual, thoroughly and understand the process. If not contact Ann. b) Returning Forms - Rego form and cheque fee (once Club decides to enter), the Winners Advisory
form (copy only) and the Participants Contact details form immediately after the event. One yet to be received and at least 4 came the week of the Regional finals which is slack.
c) The Club YOTY people need to print clearly on the Rego form and the Winner’s Advisory form – so many were almost illegible. Take a bit of time to do the job required.
d) If a Club YOTY person has to pull out for health or other reasons, the Club must appoint another member to take over the duties and to inform me of the new person. Presidents do need to embrace YOTY and oversee the club’s YOTY Chairman.
e) Going to the schools – Firstly, write a letter to Principal for an appointment, ask if a Staffer can be the person with whom to liaise. Make it very friendly, state the program and source students and make comment if the club financially assists the school in any way to enter YOTY and mention reciprocation (I bet most clubs financially assist school programs) Take some YOTY handout material - all in the folder. May need to photocopy.
f) Judges – choose these carefully, invite by phone or letter. Ensure they each have rapport with young people and they want to do the job. Keep a data list of people used and to re- use. Meet with the Judges initially – give them their Judges pack, discuss the questions and their duties and select the Panel Chairman, before the meeting or at the meeting – optional. There is enough information in folders and manual regarding a list of what to give out.
g) Students Pack – take a couple to the staff visit – list of what to put in the Students’ Pack is in the folder. Some club YOTY’s do meet with the candidates near to the event and is optional. Students need to know and understand their obligations – the Program, dress code, punctuality etc – Sheet in folder to include in pack.
Page 86
Lions Clubs International Multiple District 201, District C2 Agenda for the Cabinet Meeting to be held 23 May 2015
h) All Applications - need to be checked before it leaves the school – there needs to be some leadership intervention to each student via the school Staffer to ensure the student “Sells Self”. This is hard for a teenager to put on paper all their credentials - they may need help. All sections must be completed – there are 4 pages in all. Students must type or print information and in as much detail within the allowable space. This year many applications were pretty sparse – the judges base the interview on the information provided. Therefore, all students need to “sell themselves’ on paper.
i) Printing on the Applications by the students was fairly pitiful and illegible, particularly the email addresses. A few were downloaded and the info typed which was excellent. This coming year I will insist ion a black pen to be used.
j) Remember – the original Application is the one to be sent on to the next level together with that students Winners Advisory form, not copies. This year we had a copy which a Judge used and he/she had made jottings on each page. That document went to a Regional final. In the end we had to get the student (who went to the District Final), to submit a new application which is in the Rules.
k) It is encouraged, where there is only one candidate entering a Club Final for that club to stage a Club final with 2 Timekeepers and three Judges plus the Reserve judge – new ruling listed in all Manuals.
l) I used the Reserve judge at the Murray Bridge Club final and it worked very well, indeed. The Reserve judge receives a Judges’ pack (listed in the folder), participates at the interview, does not have to submit any general knowledge questions to the Panel, scores own marks throughout which are only used in the event that one of the other Judges leaves through illness or family emergency.
m) A Club and a Regional final can have 3 judges plus the Reserve judge and the district and State shall have 5 judges and 1 Reserve Judge.
All of this information will be in my revamped notes. I am very keen to run 2-3 workshops – 1 in South East and one for the Hills/city/southern area and when I visit Sunraysia area after the Convention. Both for the club YOTY folk, President and any school staffers. It is a fantastic program and we should give it due support. I have 3 new clubs showing interest for the coming year. Also, I’m on the lookout for 6 Clubs willing to host a Regional Final – I’m hopeful for the Darwin Clubs, too
I will be expecting all Club YOTY’s to do their job with professionalism, enthusiasm and a good dose of dedication. That way their events will be well documented and received by all who attend. Many are doing this well but the “paper shufflers” need a prod in the right direction. We had 89 at the State Final and the feedback has been just so rewarding. The Students were amazing.

Corinne Stone Memorial Award The closing date is 31st May and more entries are warmly invited. Lion Harry Tillyer has again asked Cabinet Secretary Ross to email all clubs seeking these. For the entry form see your club secretaries or email [email protected] or on the C2 website in members documents. ACSO (Association of Combined Service Organisations) AGM. This event will be very much as in previous years. It is possible for State Projects to be entered into both awards. Closing date 31st August. More details will be circulated by Harry later. Public Relations Due to distance it is difficult for Lion Harry Tillyer to get around to everyone. However, he does recommend that club officer training includes a small section in their courses concerning PR, recognitions and awards. He strongly urges clubs to approach their local radio stations and see if they can spread the word that way. (I have a stint on the Mt. Barker Radio ) Like the Ask One below you’ll never know until you do it! In his training Harry became aware of the Google issue whereby websites, if not setup to adapt and display correctly on mobile devices, such as tablets and smart phones would be dropped down the search results rankings. This is a result of the dramatic increase in Google search activity being conducted on mobile devices. This took effect from the middle of April though Lions Web Master Alex has advised that the Lions Websites will not be affected. This is the case with the pages C2 and MD 201 displaying well on a smart phone and Google tagging them as mobile friendly. Membership Lions Harry has been assisting Lion Denis Haseldine with various membership drives (in this State anyway). We have helped to start Branch Clubs in Mt Compass and Holdfast Bay. 'ASK ONE' really works. And it does, just ask Lion Geoff Baker of Mildura. He attended the C2 District Youth of the Year Final recently in Mount Gambier. In a discussion with the mother of the eventual winner, he asked had she thought of joining Lions, the response a “Yes”. Good one Geoff, let’s hear that question more often from all members mouths. Shows The team under Denis has been working the shows and forwarding on the lists of names collected. I for one can vouch for this though the results were disappointing. A few words of explanation there will be made at Waikerie. Newsletters Club submissions are sound with a wider range of clubs starting to get on board.

The local newspapers in the regional areas have been providing excellent support for the clubs where quality stories and high resolution photos are being provided. The Youth of the Year program has been particularly well supported in the regions. Again like the radio offering, set up the conversation and find out what they like and when. My local paper in fact a couple of years ago put out an advice on how to take quality photos. I have placed it on the C2 website under members documents. It may spark discussion and also help in getting more photos published.

Portfolio Global Membership Team Co-ordinator
Our district membership has again achieved a positive growth as we approach the fourth quarter of the 2015 Lions Year. We have maintained this positive growth, mainly due to the hard the work of many of our Clubs Membership chairpersons, the Show and Exhibition Teams efforts at country shows and community functions. The published District C2 membership figures for the year to April, shows an increase in members of 24 since the start of this Lions year, which is attributable to 1 new Branch club in Katherine and the Mt. Compass Club, newly formed as members of Willunga Club.
The Katherine NT Club has formed as a branch of the Darwin Nightcliff Club with 16 current members, and looking to increase to 20 members, to charter this Lions year.
The Mt. Compass Club has 4 members, currently inducted into our Willunga club. Mt. Compass is a small but enthusiastic group and are currently building their membership numbers to become a branch of Willunga.
The GMT team commenced the proposed Holdfast Bay Club formation in March. They currently have 4 members to be inducted into our Brighton Club along with a Leo from Mildura, to be transferred as part of the Leo to Lion program.
The Membership numbers for our district will commence the third Quarter with 24 new, and with the proposed Glenelg membership campaign, we will increase our membership numbers to achieve the membership net increase goals proposed by our D.G.for 2014/15 Lions year.
Membership numbers for District 201 have also increased and raised the membership numbers beyond the critical 27000 mark, with an overall membership increase of 27. The Family Membership fee reduction will now again be applicable. District 201 clubs have had mixed membership results, however C2 have done well and have made a major contribution to the districts membership gains. The March to May membership drives undertaken by many C2 Clubs have worked for us.
WELL DONE C2
All C2 Clubs will again be offered tools to use in the struggle to recruit the members required to maintain positive growth in all Clubs. Tools will be offered at Zone level, directed specifically at Club Presidents and Membership Chairmen The tools again offered by the District and Membership Team are:
1. Media advertising using the 3 new 30 second “Two Hands” presentations, funded by
Club contributions, with a new promotional program to be introduced early in the
2015 new Lions year.
Page 92
Lions Clubs International Multiple District 201, District C2 Agenda for the Cabinet Meeting to be held 23 May 2015
2. Offer the “Show and Exhibition” kit and team, to conduct membership drives for any
Club participating in an event that attracts the local community.
3. Training and or assistance that will enable Membership Chairmen to conduct local
Club membership drives. GMT will run 2 membership workshops conducted by the
LCI appointed facilitators in the 2015/16 Lions year. One in the Riverland region and
another in the Adelaide CBD, dates to be announced.
4. The 50/50 partnership, introduced at the Canberra Convention. This program has
started in Victoria and is now following in South Australia. The Female membership
in C2 Clubs currently stands at around 18%. With just a modest growth to 20%, the
district Club membership will increase by 60 or about 1 female member per club.
Little steps.
5. The lead reporting of Prospective Members personally approaching our Newcastle
office will continue as before handled by Roy Hodgson, (Hahndorf Club). Results from
this reporting method has been especially pleasing with significant results gained in
the Northern Territory, where we have had many leads contributing to the
Palmerston and Katherine Clubs formation and increased membership numbers in
the Darwin Clubs. Coverage of the “Two hands” and “Do Something near You”
promotions, in the NT have been directly attributable to these pleasing results.
6. The CEP will continue be offered to Clubs in need of regeneration. It will be offered
in the original full form, using a CEP facilitator, or in the new “Lite” form utilising the
Club Membership Chairman as facilitators.
7. The “March Membership Month” promotion presented to Zones during 2015 Zone
Meetings. The team will continue this promotion in the final round of meetings for
2015 . The 2014/15 promotion was well received and many clubs pledged their
support.
The Show and exhibition team have been out in force again this term with the GMT
recruiting at the Lucindale Field Days during March and at Morgan over Easter. Lucindale
produced Lions membership leads for Naracoorte and Lioness leads for Mt. Gambier, and
10 new leads for the depleted Morgan Club. The team will attend an Information day at
Strathalbyn Sunday 17th. May.
Again WELL DONE C2

Since my last report I have called into KI and presented on Lions History and Organisation. There is a bunch of very enthusiastic Lions on the Island and we will endeavour to keep in touch in the future. I believe that they feel left out sometimes with the problems associated with travel and travel costs. I thank my hosts whilst on the Island for their great hospitality
I am still waiting for volunteers to become facilitators for C2 District. The proposed mini faculty has been delayed until July at this stage so please watch out for details soon. Again this will be a combined effort with C1 which will mean a venue in Adelaide. May I again ask Zonies to trawl around your clubs for interested parties and let me know soonest?
At the time of writing I have proposed the holding of a new Lions forum later in the year. This would be of interest to members with less than one year membership so again I ask Zonies on their ‘rounds’ to promote this opportunity.
Training for NT Clubs is hopefully going to improve shortly. Tim Irvine (GLT Area Leader) is busy attempting to obtain a National Lions Licence for the use of ‘Go To Meeting’ for training purposes. This has been very successfully used this year for GLT Coordinator Meetings and VDGE and DGE Training
By the time you read this incoming Officers Information Workshops will be underway, please encourage incoming Club Officers to attend, some are new and some are continuing but never the less should still attend. Please pass the word back to your Clubs/Zones
Zonies please note; if you are short of guest speakers for your Zone Meetings then think of inviting the GLT, GMT Coordinators to come and speak

26th April 2015
Nepal Earthquake
Dear Lions, Lioness and Leos, On ANZAC Day, Saturday 25th April 2015 Nepal experienced a 7.9 magnitude earthquake between the capital Kathmandu and the city of Pokhara. The devastation is immense, with 1,800 people killed and thousands more left homeless and without shelter. Your Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has acted immediately to give a US$100,000 Emergency Grant, for the Lions of Nepal and neighbouring countries to distribute bottled water, food, blankets, hygiene packs, baby care, toiletries, medicines and temporary shelter to the people in need. The Lions Family in Australia continue to help the Lions of Vanuatu in the rebuilding of their island communities, but we have the capacity and will to help other small nations in their times of extreme difficulties. It is poignant that 100 years ago at Gallipoli the 1st/6th Gurkha Rifles Nepalese soldiers were there with the Australian and New Zealander forces. LCIF doesn’t forget the needs of Australian communities where recent storms and flooding have caused so much damage in the Hunter Region. Your donation to the LCI/LCIF Disaster Relief Fund will enable much needed assistance to be given to the Nepalese people. Send your cheque in Australian Dollars to your District Cabinet Treasurer. Your donation marked as such is eligible to go towards a Melvin Jones Fellowship or Progressive Melvin Jones Fellowship. Conduct a bucket collection in your local community. MD201 is particularly close to this current disaster as we have a Nepalese Lions Club in N5 that gives us a window into this beautiful and peaceful country. They are in close contact with their family and friends providing up to date information on the situation in Nepal. 100% of every dollar donated to LCIF goes to the people in need. Please help Yours in Lionism,
Nigel Jeny
