LIFE AFTER COLLEGE
PRESENTEDBY
SCOTT ODIGIE
First word
What any human being is in search for today is not a good job, or wealth, or a spouse, nor
a fame but fulfilment; happiness. Ecc.1, & 2.
Several thousands of graduates are been released into the real world as it were; a world where all economic systems are failing
drastically, uncertainty is
increasing in geometric proportion, marriages are
crumbling, and several individuals are losing their
minds daily.
The question we should ask ourselves as graduates should be, “what should
I do to be exempted from these decadence?”
Some of the facts in our present world today:
Realities
1. Economic downturn: money is failing, investments
are crashing. It is not new! Our patriarchs of faith experienced
and thrived in it.
2. Unemployment: Job Recruiters say ‘It is difficult to recruit good staffs.’ Captain of industry say there are Jobs but we cannot find experienced
and employable graduates. Graduates say:
There are no jobs, governments should create jobs. Government say: It is
not the business of the government to create jobs it is the duty of private
enterprises. Pro-Entrepreneurship says: From
soil to oil now something is boiling our oil tanks are getting exhausted we need more think tanks Look at our “graduates” & see
unemployment riding high Look at our needs as a nation & see the many opportunities to
create solutions. ENTREPRENEURS are wanted!
3. Increased separation and divorce statistics: this is one of the
most abused institutions in our uncertain world. And when anything becomes predominant in life it could
become a belief system.
4. Leadership crisis: the greatest challenge we are faced with in our
nation is the challenge of leadership. We must understand that everything
rises and falls on leadership.
5. Entrepreneurship mediocrity: as you are
so is your business.
Strategies
1. Supernatural Proficiency: there is no future anywhere but in God. God
is the first employer of labour, empowers people for inventions in manufacturing, impresses visions &
dreams in peoples imagination etc.
2. Upgrade your passion to a financial stream: follow your
heart and live your passion. This will eliminate confusion but get you more precise about your decisions.
3. Device Strategic job options: for instance, if I don’t get a job in say 5-6 months after graduation what are my
options? To set up a business? Or do some menial jobs less than my qualification?
Travel abroad for a post graduate course? Etc.
4. Review your resolutions with changing economics: carry out PEST analysis. Coming out from college with
great ideas you had 1, 2 or 3 years ago, must be reviewed if it would fit in
with present economic realities.
5. Upgrade your degree: we must understand that education is not synonymous to literacy. Learn to give your degree a boost; the competition is on the high side.
6. Work to learn and not to earn: great minds and dreamers don’t work for money, they work
to learn and improve on their character and proficiencies.
7. Make every moment count: be a goal setter. Stay with the right
people, read the right books, attend the right seminars, get the right
information, go the right places etc.
8. Be information-savvy: we live in a fast growing world. Therefore,
position yourself for the acquisition of relevant information on: career trends,
CV writing, job opportunities, internships or placements,
9. Develop the Character-capital: a
good name is much more valuable than money.
Conclusion
You will succeed! Thank you for
listening.
