Ordering Kits
Please note that all Colleges will be ordering their kits at the same time. This is a very busy time for suppliers and can sometimes cause delays in receiving items. It is important that you order your kit and uniform promptly as soon as you receive your order form. This will ensure that you have the correct equipment and uniform at the start of your course.
Failure to do so will hinder your progress
If your uniform does not arrive in time for your first week at college, we would ask that you wear a temporary uniform of:
• Smart plain black trousers ( No jeans, leggings, jeggings)• Smart plain black top (No cropped/ low cut tops)• Black leather closed in shoes
You will need to bring in evidence to demonstrate that your order has been placed with the suppliers, such as an email confirmation of your order.
Please note: Failure to have ordered your full kit and uniform by the second week of your course without evidence or receipt, could result in withdrawing you from the course.
Replenishing Your Kit
Parts of your kit will last you well into your professional career if you look after them. Whilst we make every effort to ensure the products in your kits will last for the duration of your course, we have to keep the cost down and ensure the products are not to heavy for you to transport. You may find that products you are using on a daily basis will need replenishing before you complete your course.
Note - Your kit is not for personal use, it for use when at college and for practise on clients at home. If you run out of a product or lose anything in your kit it is up to you to replace it, NOT THE COLLEGE. The products must be replaced from the supplier you purchase your kit from.
Your kit needs to be with you at all times. You cannot complete what is required of you without your kit. Failure to bring your kit could result in disciplinary action.
If there are any issues with your kit then you must contact Capital directly.
Labelling your kit
Your kit MUST be clearly labelled with your name where possible.
Metal tools and implements need to be sterilised or sanitised so be
aware that any stickers will come off.
The best way to label these items is using nail polish.
Cleaning your kit
Your kit needs to be kept clean and tidy. You will have access to
sterilisation and sanitation methods here at college. You will need
to wipe over products to keep them free of product residue on a
regular basis. Hair brushes should be kept clean and hair free.
Looking after your blocks/heads
Although your blocks are made with real hair they do not react well
to shampoo and conditioner. Instead please rinse your blocks
thoroughly and only use fabric conditioner to detangle.
Avoid using hair products on blocks.
Personal Presentation
Please be aware of personal hyiene. The use of a good deodorant is important every day.
Uniforms should be washed, clean and ready to wear at least on a
weekly basis.
Hair should be kept clean and well groomed to represent the
industry
you are in.
You must arrive on time for class already wearing your clean
uniform.

work on live models. Although the college will try to assist in the supply of
models, it is the student’s responsibility to supply models to practise on in
commercial classes.
Models will need to be supplied for the completion of your mocks and synoptic

In order to encourage students who supply models we will reward students
who bring the most models. Please complete the reward chart to ensure you
keep a record of the clients you bring in.
Please note; the same model can not be used more than once by the same stylist.

Are there any courses that you would like to take but could not find
in our provision?
Please contact Rebecca Gonzalez:
We are delighted that you are joining our Hairdressing and Beauty department to embark on a new training programme
We would like to take this opportunity to firstly welcome you, but also highlight, some important
information that you will need to consider before committing to your programme of study.
All students are expected to except and meet the following conditions
1. A minimum of 100% attendance is required on all our courses. (please consider this and
ensure that you can commit to your course before enrolling). Any missed sessions through illness or
exceptional circumstances will be expected to be made up through attending additional classes.
Please be aware that bursaries do not cover childcare for all these hours
2. You are required to complete a minimum of 30 hours external work experience.
It is your responsibility to find your placement (we can support you with this).
These hours will be in addition to your timetabled core hours.
Please be aware that bursaries do not cover childcare for all these hours
3. You will also be timetabled additional hours to work at salon METRO to improve your practical
skills and improve your employability.
These additional hours will be discussed and timetabled with you during induction week to enable you
to plan around work/childcare etc.
Please be aware that bursaries do not cover childcare for all these hours
4. If you are under 18, you will be expected to complete your all of your timetabled
programme of study hours including Mathematics and English. If your attendance drops under 95% in any area, you will be at risk of losing your place on the course.
5. All students will be on a 6 week review period to ensure your suitability for the course.
During this period, you will have the opportunity to transfer to a different course or level if you or we felt
that your current choice was not suitable.
6. All of our courses have a strict kit/uniform policy to ensure that you are presenting
professional standards at all times. We would expect compliant and professional behaviour at all times
in and around the college premises.
7. Hair must be of a suitable clean and styled look to represent your hairdressing industry.
8. We expect students to show some flexibility. Whilst we always endeavour to plan in
advance, there are some occasions where there may be changes to your timetabled hours.
This will be to accommodate such events as product training, trips, guest speakers, competitions,
exams etc. All of which enhance your learning journey.
Please be aware that bursaries do not cover childcare for all these events/hours
9. Please be aware that in order for you to meet the courses study requirements, you will need tocommit and additional 5-15 hours self directed theory and practical study per week.
10. Exam dates are NON-NEGOTIABLE and must be attended, or you will be at risk of failing tocomplete your qualification.
11. All students must be willing to work on each other prior to working on real clients (unless you
are contraindicated or have a medical reason)
If you have any queries or concerns regarding any of the content in this booklet, do not hesitate to contact a member of our team to discuss these issues.
Your tutors and careers team will be able to guide and support you in how best to achieve your goals.
We hope you enjoy your programme of study and look forward to seeing you soon!
