Lens Systems for CRT-Based Rear Projection Televisions
High Performance Digital Lens Systemswith Thermal Compensation Module (TCM)• Innovative thermal drift compensation using a thermal bar that is
incorporated into the lens housings.• On axis there is a 60% improvement over other standard 3M VikuitiTM
lens systems.• In the corners there is a 50% improvement over standard lens
systems.• Available with our patented ECP (Enhanced Color Purity) filters.• Will initially only be available in the VikuitiTM Delta 260 and our
color-correction lens systems.

Thermal CompensationModule (TCM)Heat generated by the CRT’s in anRPTV can cause the image to driftslightly out of focus. By incorporatingthe latest in composite materialdevelopment and mechanical design, our high performance digital lenssystem with a thermal compensationmodule remains in focus throughout awide range of operating temperatures. The key component of this proprietaryinvention is the thermal bar. As theRPTV heats up, the thermal barexpands, pushing the lens closer tothe CRT and refocusing the image. This passive compensation results inthe sharpest of images.

How Enhanced Color Purity(ECP) Filters WorkThe CRTs in rear-projection televisions (RPTV) displaymore colors than desired. Years of research haveresulted in the color filtration in our patented ECPfilters. ECP minimizes the transmission of unwantedwavelengths while maximizing the transmission ofdesired wavelengths and the optical performance of thelens system. Red and green filters are available andare incorporated into the C-element. ECP increasesthe color palette of the RPTV, resulting in brilliant colorsthat more accurately reproduce the image.
This graph shows the spectral output of a typical greenCRT. As you can see, there are more colors producedthan green (about 540nm). The green line shows thepercentage of light transmitted by our ECP filters.
