Dental Assistant daytime and evening students worked together recently to help promote “Kids Dental Health Month.” Children from around Lebanon County were invited to attend the CTC on Saturday, February 4, 2012, from 9 am-noon for a variety of fun dental-related activities. Mrs. Eckert, daytime instructor, and Mrs. Kilgore, evening adult instructor, were both present to help supervise the morning’s activities with their dental students. Over 30 children and their parents were able to learn about good and bad foods, proper teeth cleaning procedures, and take a ride on the dental chairs. Door prizes and goody bags were a big hit with all the kids.
Six students from Culinary and Pastry Arts competed in the Ice Carving Contest at the 2nd Annual Lebanon Rotary Club’s Bologna Fest and Winter Carnival, held on Saturday, January 28, 2012. The three County Commissioners served as judges and there was also a People’s Choice vote. Visitors to the Bologna Fest could vote for their favorite carving by paying one dollar per vote. We Got Talent... Culinary and Pastry Arts students were given the opportunity to show individualism, creativity, and hard work in an in-house gingerbread competition among their classmates and instructors. All gingerbread houses were judged by alumni, CTC staff, and special guests. The top ten houses had the opportunity to have their gingerbread house displayed and entered to compete in the Pennsylvania Farm Show. The picture below shows the houses that placed in the top three among the Culinary and Pastry Arts programs.
Our Culinary and Pastry Arts students were put to the test as they competed against each other at the PA Farm Show. Two teams consisting of three students were given a mystery basket of ingredients to make a plated meal. The students were televised and shared their talents and imagination with the viewing area during this assignment. The Culinary Arts students went home with a 1st place ribbon and Pastry Arts followed with a 2nd place ribbon. The students that participated in the competition were praised for their achievements. We wish them continued success for a rewarding career in the culinary field.
The Culinary and Pastry Arts students discovered a friend to be in financial need. Out of compassion, the students decided to do a fundraiser to benefit this student and his family. A bake sale was held to raise money for this family. The family was also treated to a complimentary Hill Top Café lunch experience. Our students thoughts continue to be with him.
