ATEX Information (FAQ)
What does the code on my ITS - Products mean?We label our products with a unique laser branding. The laser branding oers you a variety of information. The label provides you with our company name, website and logo, as well as the product name, the product number and replacement part number. Furthermore, we specify the ATEX classication, technical information about voltage and temperature range.
What is ATEX?ATEX derives its name from the French title of the 94/9/EC directive: Appareils destinés à être utilisés en ATmosphères EXplosibles. 94/9/EC was superseded by the directive 2014/34/EU of the European Parlament. None the less, the term ATEX is still used.
The directive covers equipment and instrumentation which is intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. The directive covers a large quantity and variety of safety equipment and instrumentation, including ame scanners. The directive is applicable from April, 20th 2016.
For detailed information about the transition between the directives, please visit the ocial website of the European Commission:
http://ec.europa.eu/DocsRoom/documents/13132/attachments/1/translations
What other directives are relevant? The second ATEX directive 1992/92/EC addresses the minimum health and safety requirements that must be fullled when users are working in areas danger of explosion. For more information covering ATEX classication, visit the ocial website of the European Commission:
http://ec.europa.eu/growth/sectors/mechanical-engineering/atex
How do I know if the device can operate in explosive atmospheres? All products suitable for operating in explosives atmospheres must be branded with the European Explosive Atmosphere Symbol as shown in the matching tables.
The ATEX directive is not applicable in my country, how do I transfer the ATEX code to regulation applicable for my region? There are many dierent approaches, directives and laws for equipment used in potentially explosive atmospheres worldwide. The IECEx standards 60079 issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is the international benchmark. These standards are used or adopted in over 30 countries/regions worldwide. Especially but not limited to Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Great Britan, New Zealand and the USA.
The more common regulations are the NEC/CEC regulation for North America, INMETRO standards in Brazil, ANZEx in Australia and New Zealand and EAC (TR-Cu-Ex) the directive for the Eurasian Conformity (TR CU 012/2011). Please consider your local requirements for conformity assessments before installing our products.
