On your trip, try to identify how many state license plates you can
see. You can help each other by calling out license plates for
everyone to match on their list. Put a checkmark on the states for
which you find license plates.

Quote by Celia Thaxter
Quote boxes are fun little puzzles that take all of the letters in a
quote that you provide and it lines them up into a table. The letters
in each column of the table are then mixed up so that you have to de-
code them.
To solve Quote Boxes, drop the letters from each vertical column —
not necessarily in the order in which they appear — into the empty
squares below them to spell a quotation that reads from left to right,
line by line. Black squares indicate ends of words (spaces).

The object of the game is to guess your opponent’s secret word through a series of word guesses and logic.
To begin, each player picks a secret word of Five letters. You should agree before hand the types of words that
are allowed (eg.
Proper Names, Abbre-
viations, Contractions,
words with repeating
characters, etc.) Each
player writes down
their word without
letting the other per-
son see it.
To start the game,
each player takes
turns throwing out five
letter words to their
opponent. Their oppo-
nent tells them how
many of the letters
were found in their
word. For example, if
your opponent had
select the word
“phone” and you had
guessed the word:
“home”, they would
respond with a
“three” since three of
your letters were
found in the word. You
would then write the
word down on your
paper and write a 3
next to it. After so
many guesses you
should be able to start
deducting which let-
ters are in the word.
The first person to find
their opponent’s word
wins the game.

Fath’r and I went down to camp along with Captain Goodin’,
And there we saw the mend and boys as thick as hasty puddin’
Yankee Doodle, keep it up!
Yankee Doodle dandy. Mind the music and the step, and with the girls be handy.
There we saw a thousand men,
as rich as Squier David; And what they wasted ev’ry day,
I wish it could be saved.

Mind the music and the step, and with the girls be handy.
Yankee Doodle went to London

and called it macaroni.

Yankee DoodleYankee DoodleYankee DoodleYankee Doodle
Although “Yankee Doodle” was a British song set out to mock the organiza-
tion of the Yankee’s in early US history, it has been widely sung and enjoyed
by American’s all over.
“Doodle” was a term that meant something like a fool, or inept person. The
term “Macaroni” that has often sent school children giggling is actually a
reference to a fashionable English hat at the time.
