FLOW OF PRESENTATION
Khadi connotes the beginning of economic freedom and equality for all in the country. It must be taken with all its implications. It means a wholesale swadeshi mentality, a determination to find all the necessities of life in India, and that too, through the labour and intellect of villages. -
GHANDHI JI’S THOUGHT ABOUT KHADI
KHADI “Khadi” means any cloth woven on handlooms in India from cotton, silk or
woollen yarn handspun in India or from a mixture of any two or all of such yarns
Village Industry Any Village Industry including Coir based projects(except those mentioned
in the negative list) located in the rural area which produces any goods or renders any service with or without the use of power and in which the fixed capital investment per head of a full time artisan or worker i.e. Capital Expenditure on workshop/ workshed, machinery and furniture divided by full time employment created by the project does not exceed Rs. 1 lakh in plain areas and Rs.1.50 lakh in hilly areas.

Industries Board w.e.f. 01 April 1957 One of the major Organization in decentralized sector Undertakes activities like skill improvement , Transfer of
technology , Research & development , Marketing , etc.

A. Social Objective:: Providing employment in rural areas
B. Economic Objective:: Producing saleable articles
C. Wider Objective:: creating self-reliance amongs people and building up a strong rural community spirit
MAIN OBJECTIVES
To plan & organize training of persons employed in KVI To build up reserves of raw materials & implements & supply them To encourage & assist in the creation of common service facilities To promote the sale & marketing of Khadi or products of KVI or handicrafts To encourage & promote research in the technology used in KVI Studies of the problem of KVI To provide financial assistance to Institutions or persons engaged in development of KVI To promote & encourage cooperatives efforts To ensure genuineness & standards of quality in the KVI product To carry out any other activity incidental to above
FUNCTIONS
Based on the amended KVIC Act,1956, the Commission has been reconstituted by GoI ( Noti. Date 19 July 2006)
There are 13 members including Chairman and Nominated experts from the fields of Education , Science & Technology , Marketing and Banking.
National Khadi and Village Industries Board has been constituted in March 2007(Sec. 10 of Amended KVIC Act)
As per SEC 12(A) of Amended KVIC Act:: 6 Zonal Committees have also been constituted on 01 March,2007 Under the chairmanship of the non-official member of the Commission
representing the concerned Zone

KVIC is functioning under the Ministry of Micro , Small and Medium Enterprises(MSME)
KVIC having::- Its head office Mumbai 6 Zonal Offices located in Delhi , Bhopal , Bengaluru , Kolkata , Mumbai and Guwahati 29 State Offices
to facilitate speedy implementation of KVI programs .
KVIC also undertakes training Activities though::- Its 38 departmental and non-departmental training centers
Marketing is taken up through::- 12 departmentally run Khadi Gramodyog Bhawans located in urban areas 7050 institutional retail sales outlets spread over different parts of the country
KVIC also makes available Quality raw material to Khadi insitutions
through its 6 Central Silver Plants(CSP).
ORGANIZATIONAL SETUP
KVI prgrammes are implemented through 33 States/Union Territories(Uts) Khadi and Village Industries
Boards(KVIBs) 5000 registered institutions 30,000 cooperative societies and bank/financial institutions
The Khadi Programme Is implemented through Institutions registered either with KVIC or State/UT KVIBs.
In the case of village industries, the Commission implements the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP)

The funds provided from budgetary sources(both Plan and non-plan) during Xth Plan, are

KVIC helps Glamorize Our Traditional Fabric KVIC deals with employment opportunities for artisans and
