This impulse generator is excellently-suited for use with the LD6000 meas-uring device.
The LD-PULSE is not affected by electriccables and can detect non-metallic wa-ter pipes up to a depth of 2 metreswithout having to close off any part ofthe network or system.
The LD-PULSE generates up to 60 os-cillations per minute which underfavourable conditions can spread outas far as 600 m into the pipe before be-ing detected by a ground microphone,

The principle of acousticleak detection
Water which escapes from high-pres-sure pipes at high speed causes fric-tion which in turn can be picked upin the form of sound waves.
The pipes themselves start to oscil-late. The sound that is generated istransmitted through the pipes andcan be transformed into audiblesound with a body sound microphoneat a distant contact point (valve, hy-drant, armature)
In addition the water leaking outthrough the crack or hole in the pipegenerates sound which is carriedthrough the ground to the surface.This sound can be picked up by ageophone and transformed into audi-ble sound.

The mobile wireless monitoringsystem in the Trotec MultiMeasureProfessional Series enables you tocarry out reliable acoustic zonemeasurements in drinking watersystems in order to detect possiblecracks, fissures and leaks.
A magnetic base and optionally availablemounts and brackets allow you to posi-tion your wireless data logger in a va -riety of different positions to measurethe sound levels in the pipe system ornetwork.
In addition, a model with a hydrophonecan be used for measuring operationsthat are carried out with the mediumwater – ideal for plastic pipes or pipenetworks that cover greater distances.
The wireless data loggers detect, analyseand log sound levels during the nightwhen less water flows through the sys-tems and transmits all the measuringdata up to 12 times a minute.
All measuring data can be picked upand logged from a passing vehicle withthe use of a mobile LD5LR receiver.The leak status and further measuringdata are displayed directly on theLD5LR’s easy-to-read display.

Correlation measurements takeon a whole new dimension withthe mobile PC-based LD20PC all-in-one system. Quality engineering “made in Germany”enables users to identify leaks extremelyflexibly and effectively, thus avoidingexpensive excavations or digging atwrong sites or locations.
The LD20PC is equipped with a steepanalogue filter and a dissipation functionwhich was developed in cooperationwith the Fraunhofer Institute and there-fore able to determine and identifybackground noises and interferencequickly and efficiently before subse-quently effectively suppressing them.
Special optionally available hydrophonesensure accurate results in even the mostdifficult of situations, for example withplastic pipes and long pipe distances.
Advancement through flexibiltyThe countless connection possibilitieswhich the module has to offer providethe user with the greatest possible de-gree of flexibility. As many as four re-ceiver units for three-point correlation
and data logger communication are in-tegrated in the centre of the system.

Correlation is a computer-sup -ported process which can beused to locate leaks extremely
accurately.
All leaks emit sound. This sound travelsand is transferred to hydrants, armaturesand valves.
The sound is detected by highly-sensitivesignal receivers at up to three contactmeasuring points and transferred to the
correlator via the LD wireless transmitter.The LD20PC calculates the exact positionof the leak on the basis of the differencesin the time that has elapsed betweenthe signals while taking various factorslike material, pipe diameter and thelength of the distance that was measuredinto account.
In contrast to the electroacoustic me-thod, correlation does not depend onthe volume of the sound generated bythe leak or on other factors like the we-ather conditions or the depth in whichthe pipes have been laid. This meansthat the leaks in the pipe system canbe detected easily when ground sounddetection is not possible.
