Healing Rest
This Sunday we are looking at the
importance of rest and relaxation.
Who’s doesn’t need more rest? We
live in a culture that increasingly
demands more of us. More activities
to do, more experiences to make,
more work to do so we can afford
the luxuries of life. However, so
often we get caught up with the
hustle and bustle of life that we
neglect to consider what God has to
offer us. From the moment we wake
up we are on the go until our head
crashes against the pillow.
God encourages us to slow down
and ponder our lives. Jesus says in
Matthew 11: 28 “Come to me, all
you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest.” In our
routines of life, do we take time to
be with God? Do we search for
meaning in life that does not involve
paying something for it?
Living the Christian life requires
nothing of a monetary value. Most
of all God wants our time to be in a
relationship with him. In the gospel
from Matthew Jesus offers to take
the burdens from our lives and give
us rest. What more can we ask for?
When we are struggling with
stresses, Jesus will help carry that
load and allow us to live freely from
it. Next time you are feeling heavy
laden consider what Jesus offers
us. Matthew 11:28-30 says this,
28 “Come to me, all you who are
weary and burdened, and I will give
you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you
and learn from me, for I am gentle
and humble in heart, and you will
find rest for your souls. 30 For my
yoke is easy and my burden is
light.”
In the service on Sunday we will
look at how to look towards God
and find the rest Jesus offers us.

Humour Corner A young pastor was sitting in a restaurant eating lunch. He opened a letter from his
mother he just got that morning. As he opened it a twenty dollar bill fell out. He thought:
"Thanks, mom, I could use that right about now." As he finished his meal he noticed a
beggar outside on the sidewalk leaning against the light post. He thought: "That fella could
probably use the $20 more than I."
So he crossed out the names on the envelope and put the $20 in the envelope and wrote across
the top in large letters. "PERSEVERE!" So as not to make a scene, he put the envelope under
his arm and dropped it as he walked past the man. The man picked it up and read the message
and smiled. The next day, while the pastor was eating his lunch, the same man tapped him on
the shoulder and handed him a big wad of bills. Surprised the young pastor asked him what that
was for? The man replied, this is your half of the winnings. "PERSEVERE" came in first in the
fourth race at the track yesterday, and he paid 30 to 1.

Have a Nice Day!
Grant’s World
News from the Pews Page 11
This week has been a busy one of celebrations. Last weekend we celebrated Canada’s 150
birthday. I was amazed to see the amount of people showing their patriotism around me. Halton
Hills had more flags that any other community across the country! We are the most patriotic town
(unofficially) with more than 57,000 flags registered. What a great idea to challenge our residents
to this.
All around the country side were festivals, parades and fireworks. It was one of the best Canada
Day’s I’ve ever celebrated in my life. I feel proud to be a Canadian.
On Saturday, we have two other celebrations happening this week. At 11 AM at the Jones’
Funeral home we will celebrate the life of George Ohashi. George has been a member of
St. Andrew’s for about 10 years. After many years of challenges in his health, George has gone
home to be with the lord and with his life partner Minn. We offer our prayers and condolences to
his son Glenn and his wife Nolle and their two boys Mark and Adam, also his son Gerald and his
wife Cathy.
At 2 PM at St. Andrew’s we will be celebrating the marriage of Mitch Robinson and Ellen Roa.
Mitch is the son of Gord Robinson. Mitch and Ellen, along with their son Mitchel, have been
coming to St. Andrew’s for about a year weekly. We wish them congratulations as they begin
their new life together as a family. Anyone at St. Andrew’s is welcome to attend their wedding
ceremony.
Hope to see you all this weekend,
Blessings,
Grant

Taken from the Independent: “By July 1, the exact number of flags flying proudly in Halton Hills
in time for Canada Day was 57,073. Statistically, Halton Hills has an average of two flags per
household — beating Thorold.“ So unofficially, we are the most Patriotic town!
