• KVEC’s multiyear funding through USDE’s Project Prevent
• Ripple Effects is the name of the technology-based program selected to anchor project.
• Ripple Effects is comprehensive and technology based to supplement and support counselors and mental health professionals.
• Hazard High School and Hazard Middle School are two of the ten pilot schools for this project.
Ripple Effects in Appalachia
• Hazard High School’s STLP students were involved with replacing the urban, hip hop look of the teen software with local youth voices, videos, and pictures.
• KVEC stressed the importance of a sense of place in Appalachia with students identifying with the Appalachian students.
• Evidence based, reading independent tool that includes 390 independent tutorials.

Appalachian Technology Institute
• Develop world-class technology learning opportunities to students in Eastern Kentucky
• Enable students with the acquisition of high level skills to compete in the global economy
• ATI will work with the Kentucky Department of Education to offer and create educational pathways that will promote economic development in the area.
The goal of ATI is to offer courses in the following career paths:
