I believe….. In the home as an inspiring and
happy center of family life, comfortable and attractive,
a place for relaxation and work, where pleasure and responsibilities
are shared.
I believe….. In the home, its contribution to community life which reflects the development of the
homemaker and the family.
I believe….. In the homemaker, alert, diligent, in search of better ways of doing ordinary things for the welfare and happiness of the family.
I believe….. In the homemaker as a leader in the community, in her responsibility for
passing on to others the mastered skills and knowledge.
I believe….. In the fellowship that comes through the
homemaker organization, the joy of knowledge shared with others thus
broadening our lives and lifting household tasks above the common place.
For these opportunities I am grateful. I am thankful for the courage of yesterday,
the hope of tomorrow, and a growing consciousness of God’s love always.
Keep us, O God, from pettiness; let us be large in thought,
in word, in deed.
Let us be done with fault-finding and leave off self-seeking.
May we put away all pretense
and meet each other face to face without self-pity and without prejudice.
May we never be hasty in judgment
and always generous. Let us take time for all things;
make us to grow calm, serene and gentle.
Teach us to put into action our better impulses, straightforward and unafraid.
Grant that we may strive to touch
and to know the great, common human heart of us all, and O God, let us not forget to be kind.
~ ~ ~ ~
The Club Collect was written by Mary Stewart of Longmont, Colorado in 1904 as
a personal prayer and without any organization in mind. The prayer was
published under the title, A Collect for Club Women, because Mary felt that “women
working together with wide interests for large ends was a new thing
under the sun and that perhaps they had a need for a special petition and
meditation of their own.” The collect has found its way around the
world wherever English speaking women work together.

PROGRAM OF WORK 2015-2016 (CONDENSED)
Volunteer Service Unit (VSU) Program
Welcome to the Volunteer Service Unit (VSU) program! This program is intended to recognize volunteer efforts in your club and community, help individuals grow their volunteer leadership skills, and to teach
different ways to use your skills. This program helps others, surely, but it helps you too. For example, you might want to climb a “volunteer career ladder” by taking on volunteer positions either in or outside of KEHA
that require more responsibility, and even possibly going on to seek paid employment positions using your volunteer experience as a sort of job history, which is becoming more and more accepted as a replacement
for actual paid employment history if it is described in comparable terms and well-documented.
1) What is a volunteer? A volunteer is an individual who agrees to do a job or perform a service for others (*not family, or those living in the same residence) for which the only pay is the personal satisfaction of a job well done. A volunteer can share time, knowledge, skills, materials, etc. with others. A volunteer may be paid
or reimbursed for out of pocket expenses related to volunteer work.
2) What is a Volunteer Service Unit (VSU)? A VSU equals an hour of volunteer effort. These hours include hours spent in preparing to carry out a volunteer activity, the hours spent directly involved in a volunteer
activity, and the time that may follow the activity for clean up. These activities can be KEHA related or not.
3) How can I earn VSUs? By regularly recording volunteer service hours in your VSU log (single sheets and booklet forms are available) and having them “certified” by an authorized person in the KEHA organization. When you have accumulated at least 500 hours of service, you can send the log to the KEHA Chairman for Leadership Development. You will receive a Certificate of Recognition at the next State Annual Meeting.
Each member must turn their own VSU hours in to their individual club Vice President, who will turn all club
hours in to the County Vice President who then must forward the compiled county report to the Area Leadership Development Chairman by August 15 each year. The Area Leadership Development Chairman
then completes the appropriate forms and sends them on to the State Chairman for Leadership Development by September 15. Your hours can help your county earn VSU awards state-wide!

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Individual Homemakers may record their volunteer service unit (VSU) hours in their own mini VSU booklet, which will be given out to each club. This convenient booklet allows you to record your hours quickly and
easily. For a second booklet, contact the Johnson County Extension Office.
All members are responsible for turning their hours in to their Club’s Vice President. Next, each Club’s Vice President, as well as all At-Large members, must turn these hours in to the County Vice President at the end of
the fiscal year for county records and area/state reporting.
