GUESS WHAT….It’s that time of year again!! Just out of the “old” year and right into a fresh “new” one…it’s resolution time…the time where we try to implement those changes that we “resolved” to make…to begin in earnest on… --a new diet, --an exercise regimen, --a commitment to financial re-straint, --faithfulness to daily quiet time…or whatever it is that we have resolved to do better this year. In other words, we’re trying to make some needed changes in our lives.
Change is not something most of us do well. I like my routines…even when I know that they are really ruts…and it’s so easy to get stuck in them. You all know what a rut is don’t you? A rut is really nothing more than “a grave without ends.” Not really the kind of place where I want to be stuck. But routines are pretty comforting. Predictability feels pretty safe.
Usually we make changes based on two criteria: either our current situation is so painful that we are forced to change, or the offer in the change is so unbelievably rewarding that we decide to make the leap to something new. Either way, there are just no simple changes.
As followers of Jesus Christ, our goal really shouldn't be change; our goal should be transformation. Transformation is the work of God; it's something God invites us to share, but something only God can
truly perform. So as you seek to make those changes that will leave you a better person at the end of the year, take a look at the following words of scripture and accept God’s invitation to do more than change. Be God’s partner in the work of transformation in your life…because there are no simple changes.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your flesh, and refreshment to your bones.
--Proverbs 3:5-8
--Peace and grace, Doug
From the Pastor…
If this is to be a Happy New Year, a year of usefulness, a year in which we shall live to make this earth better, it is because God will direct our pathway. How important then,
to feel our dependence upon Him! - Matthew Simpson

THANK YOU!
The end of December I completed
my 15th year as your secretary and
January 3, 2019 I begin my 16th year. My oh
my how time does fly.
Your love and commitment to serving the
Lord is a shining light in Boone and in my
heart. Everyone has been so kind and loving
that I don’t ever NOT want to come to work.
For me a church secretary is serving the Lord
and His people. I know I am getting old, and
someday I will have to stop serving my Lord
in this position. BUT, until then I am your
secretary ready to serve the Pastor and God’s
people.
Love & Blessings, Donna

SPECIAL OFFERING
JANUARY 20
Your generous gift supports neighborhood outreach
and advocacy through Community Developers and
United Methodist Voluntary Services, both related to
the General Board of Global Ministries
(umcmission.org), and at-risk teens through Youth
Offender Rehabilitation, General Board of Church and
Society (umcjustice.org).
Ask the Lord what he would have you give
to this Special Offering
REMINDER
Every third Thursday at 6:00pm is Laundry Soap-Making! The soap made is donated to IMPACT for their clients to use, as well as some of our own church
members. If you have never helped out, stop by! It is fun and we have lots of laughs (last month Alan Schoff and Justin Crocheck were singing Roy Clark songs in remem-brance of him!)
Also, every third week donations of food/toiletries are asked for IMPACT. Of course, you can donate every week if you wish, but we like to take the items donated to IMPACT so the first of the month they have plenty of options.
Thank you, Church Family for ALL of your support for this amazing ministry. Without YOU, many people and fami-lies would not have much.
