lead in the provision of 20,518 direct jobs or 43.7% of
the total number of persons employed directly in the
accommodation sub-sector. (JTB annual statistics for 2016 )
• Montego Bay has a thriving cruise port and is set to
benefit from the 8.7 percent increase in cruise
passenger arrivals and the US123.6 million dollars
that we have earned so far this year from cruise
passengers.
• Montego Bay has the Sangster International airport a
major gate way to the island bringing in % of the
total visitors to the island

units and 10,653 rooms, according to the Jamaica
Tourist Board annual statistics of 2016.
• Since this year their has been an increase of over 500
rooms with the opening of Zoetry, Jewel Grande and
Breathless Resort hotels.

• UK based charity organization, the Travel
Foundation provided training for the
Harbour Street Craft Market traders.
• The private hospital, namely Hospiten,
located in Rose Hall was built in 2015. The
family owned hospital has been
endorsed by our Health Ministry and
meets all standards that are expected of
a health care facility.
The ideas generated usually require the support of both
the public and private sector, as tourism benefits not only
those directly employed in the sector, but impacts the
entire country.

Gwest Medical Centre was opened
recently in Fairview Montego Bay by a

international market.

• TPDCO and Carnival Cruise line’s recently
collaboration to provide cultural sensitization
for Montego Bay and Falmouth Contract

• Collaboration between the TPDCo and the
National Solid Waste Management Authority
(NSWMA) has improved the environment
surrounding the Sangster International Airport
round about.

• The St. James Municipal Corporation through
the support of TEF renovated and re-opened
the Montego Bay Cultural Centre in Sam
Sharpe Square.
• The TPDCo as an agent of the Ministry of
Tourism recently launched the Jamaica
Centre of Tourism Innovation.
• The upcoming UNWTO conference is
probably the most significant, and is the first
in history that public and private sector will
be working together to stage an event of this
nature.

• Government is an enabler. Acts such as the
Omnibus Act of 2013 and the Hotel Incentive
Act, which collectively provide : employment tax credits,
capital allowances - duty free importation of
equipment and machinery
Revised tariff rates, productive input relief (PIR) Duty free importation of certain hotel industry related
items that would normally attract customs duties as
well as tax relief for mega projects
• Ministry of Tourism’s linkages Network which
is headed by renowned hotelier Adam
Stewart pursues the integration of tourism
with other sectors to increase earnings and
growth of the sector is being encouraged.

(UDC) - developing the Montego Bay
Beach Park, popularly known as Dump up
Beach, through a 700 million dollar project.
• The Adopt- a- Roadway programme
provides an opportunity already seen
along the elegant corridor and in Freeport
where hotels and entities take care of
entrances and verges along their property.

Fund (TEF) assistance and contract with the

• The Travel Foundation is working to improve
attractions like the Rastafarian Indigenous
Village by providing trainings to the enterprise
on how to improve the tour experience and
meet standards for international tour operators.
They have also created a walking map of
Montego Bay

represented by its Chamber of Commerce
will launch their “I Love Mobay” campaign.
• An awareness campaign which will
educate individuals on the importance
of our laws and other areas of concern
such as littering.
• The Montego Bay Hip Strip will receive a
facelift over the next five years to make it
aesthetically appealing and safe for visitors.
The goal is for the strip to include more
food, shopping outlets and rooms
