Annual Derasar Maintenance Fund:

As all of you are already aware, and many of you committed to for many years towards JSNE sustaining

member donation of $350 on an annual basis which has been a big help in taking care of our expenses

related to maintenance of our Derasar e.g. electricity bill, heating bill, Derasar cleaning, snow removal, any &

all repairs etc. Since we have our different memberships well defined now, per EC; we are going to rename

this fund to "Annual Derasar Maintenance Fund" with the same amount of $350/- per year. The name better

fits the purpose of this fund.

We hope the members who were contributing $350 on an annual basis towards sustaining a/c will continue to

contribute towards the newly named fund. We also would like to encourage more and more members to join

the "Annual Derasar Maintenance Fund".

This is less than $1 a day commitment for your Own Derasar.

You can pay $350 at once or sign up for automatic monthly installment of $30/month; on our website.

JSNE volunteers will personally contact you during Paryusan Parv for your commitment. Please make a

commitment to keep up and maintain the derasar in the best condition.

Please contact any EC member if you would like to sponsor any of the above events or

volunteer your services

JSNE Pathshala

Jai Jinendra and Pranam. Hope you all having a great summer and are ready with renewed energy and enthusiasm to learn and practice Jainism at Pathshala and daily routine life.

JSNE Pathshala is now 12 years old and entering in the 13th year. Congratulations and special thanks to all Pathshala students/families, teachers, and JSNE Executive Committee for this spiritual journey. During the past year; we once again successfully accomplished many tasks on hand while we continued to add new dimensions to make Pathshala a better place for students, parents and teachers. Most importantly, support from the parents, community, hard work of staff and the spirit of our students made this happen.

Pathshala activities – In addition to learning Jain Philosophy, rituals, sutras and stutis, Pathshala students

enthusiastically participated in the following activities this past year –

Jain Musical – Karmic Forces (Karmo in Karamat) – One of the biggest successful and most unique cultural event in the JSNE history took place on May 15, 2016 to celebrate the 5th anniversary of JSNE Derasar. More than 100 pathshala and community members were actively involved (as participants, choreographer and volunteers). Special thanks to all of them who were very enthusiastic, dedicated and worked very hard for more than six months to make this program a super success. Special thanks goes JSNE EC for its support and to three individuals – Nimisha Asthagiri (Concept Creator, Production Manager and Script Writer), Grishma Gandhi Shah (Director) and Paulomi Gudka (Music Director) – to make this program unique and very enlightening for all of us with their motivation, dedication and months of hard work.

Following is the summary of program details –

An original musical drama – bridging Jain wisdom from the East with modern cultural elements of the West.

It was a 2 and half-hour journey through the eyes of “Maanvi”, a pathshala student, who learns to control her passions (kashays), after a debate with her “Inside Out” inner voices. She does this conquering her inner “Darth Vader” using the help of Guru “Yoda” and cheery reminders by the innocent “Oompa Loompas”. Yoda takes her on a journey through various lives of Lord Mahavir and reveals Mahavir’s own struggles with His own Kashays throughout His lives.

The program used elements of Music, Poetry, Dance and Drama from the East and the West, bringing the community together to remind us who we are and ultimately where we can go.

On June 5th – all the participants, Choreographers and Volunteers were presented with a beautiful memento with special message engraved for each one.

Volunteer activities for High School students - Since the Spring of 2015, Pathshala has implemented a new initiative to officially recognize the volunteer hours spent by Pathshla High School students for the various JSNE temple activities. We hope this will provide an opportunity to students to visit pathshala and temple more often and be part of the institution where they can learn and practice Jainism, do more community service and become future caretaker of this center.

For grade 11 and 12th:- option to volunteer during pathshala hours (they don’t have to attend class – option to

volunteer during that time) – they can also volunteer other times (in addition to pathshala time) – if student

choose to attend class (in case they don’t want to do volunteer activity at temple) – then they are most

welcome to attend class.

For grade 9 and 10 – option to volunteer outside the pathshala class time (so if they come during pathshala –

they attend pathshala) – this way student may start earning volunteer hours when he/she comes in High

School.

All the students will be awarded with a signed document for their volunteer hours during high school years.

Test - On June 12th pathshala, students took written and oral exams on what they learned during the year. Graduation Ceremony – The three graduating students-‘Somil Sanghavi ’, ‘Kunal Shah’ and ‘ Rikin Kamdar’

were recognized and honored with a Certificate and a small Memento. Kunal shared his reflections on Pathshala at the assembly and Somil send the write up for us to read at the assembly – why it is important to attend pathshala, what they learned at pathshala over the years which will last forever with them. We wish them all the best.

End-of-year outing – On the last day of Pathshala on June 12th, students, along with parents/teachers, went to the “Chuck E Cheese’s” place in Burlington, MA. 50+ students participated and had fun.

Pathshala Statistics for year 2015-2016 – Following are some statistics from the last year –
