THE CHAINLETTER LINCOLN WHEELERS MONTHLY NEWSLETTER ISSUE 145
IT’s Billy Whizz!!!!!!!
New 10 Mile Record Holder
A few Lincoln Wheelers made the Good Friday trip to ride the legendary V718. I’m
chuffed to report that Billy Jarish has smashed the senior 10 mile time trial record
previously held by Russell Beedham who got the record in 1994 and has set a new
record at 20:15. This was a stunning ride beating fellow Wheelers Richard Sheldrake
and Andy Newham by over a minute. This is an excellent 22 year record to beat, and
were only at the start of the season!!!!!!!

Elvis Costello Trophy After Round 1 was cancelled due to
flooding, Round 2 saw 6 Lincoln
Wheelers do battle. Ed Burkitt got the
best start, while myself (Paul Clarke)
had a terrible start down in around
40th
. I made my way up the field
passing David Webb and Jonathan
Backhouse to move up to around 15th
place overall and tail Ed. I then put
some fast pressure on Ed to get a good
gap to beat him by 20 seconds.
Jonathan was 3rd
with David just
beating Roger Mitchell and Jon Moody
in 6th
. Ed Burkitt was easily the fastest
Wheeler in Round 2 of the series with
15th
overall. Roger Mitchell just beat
Andy Newham with David Webb and
Jon Moody making up another strong
Wheelers contingent.
Spring 5 Continued
59 seconds with Richard Sheldrake 3rd
just
4 seconds further back. Andy in 1st
averaged 28.39 Miles Per hour, an
amazing time. Judith Brand was fastest on
handicap with Paul Eveleigh 2nd
. So Sean
Hunt was 1st
in the scratch league while
John Cunliffe was 1st
in the Handicap
league. However when both leagues are
joined together to make the rider of the
season points, it would be John Noone
who would come out on top ahead of
Sean hunt with Stuart Stott 3rd
. 2nd
in the
Scratch and 4th
in the handicap,
consistency was definitly the key for John
Noone to get the round win.
Spring 5 League
In the wet filthy conditions of round 1
Euan Adamson got a 3 second victory
over Sean Hunt with an 11:35 with
John Noone making up the podium of
a 29 strong field. There was an
excellent performance from the
returning Ian Truman in 4th
equal with
Deborah Scotcher becoming fastest
lady out of 5. John Noone was top man
on Handicap with John Cunliffe 2nd
with an excellent 14:07. Unfortunately
the 2nd
round was cancelled due to
roadworks. Round 3 was back on with
Andy Broxholme storming to victory
with a 10:34 beating Sean Hunt by

Lincolnshire Showground Circuit Races
Round 1
Circuit Racing was back with a
bang! In the Under 12s Sam Baker
had an unfortunate crash on the
final straight gifting James
Newham the victory in an
extremely close battle to the
finish. Andy Broxholme returned
to victory on his return to the
series beating Billy jarish and
Michael Adlington in the scratch
race. In the handicap it was Trent
Valley’s Adlington that stole the
show beating Broxholme with
Damian Baker in 3rd
. Andy
Broxholme would take the round
win from the consistent John
Noone and Damian. Great debut
performances came from Ed
Burkitt, David Webb, Alex
Broadhurst and Christy Loughlin.
On Round 2 it would be the Battle
of the Burkitts as Ben would beat
brother Max in the Under 14s.
The main race would be another
Andy Broxholme domination as
he saw of Michael Adlington in
both races. Overall would see Jon
Clarke grab 2nd
with Jon Moody
3rd
having an excellent handicap
race from James Rogerson and
John Noone who remains 2nd
in
the league behind Superhuman
OXO.

Paris Roubaix Sportive
Adam Round,
Damian Baker, John
Noone, Mark
Osbourne, James
Rogerson, Sean Hunt,
Jacob Hammond,
Billy Jarish, Neil
Winter, Andy
Newham and Jon
Moody all took on
the Paris Roubaix
Sportive
Several Wheelers took on the 175KM Paris Roubaix sportive route which went over all
of the horrifically difficult cobblestone sections that the great Paris Roubaix Race goes
on. They also finished at the very famous Roubaix Velodrome which saw Matthew
Hayman grab the glory of this year’s race while Britain’s Ian Stannard finished 3rd
. There
were many Wheelers watching the Pro Race Paris Roubaix on TV, specifically to see if
we could spot our Wheelers Teammates. The picture on the top left is winner of our
“Spot the Git” competition as Andy Newham, Jon Moody and Sean Hunt got the picture
on Eurosport. To me it looks like an excellent challenge and the lads looked like they all
had an amazing time.

2016 Summer Tour by Neil O Brien
Planning for the traditional summer tour is
well underway and steel touring bikes,
panniers, and maps are being readied.
Three brave (stupid?) Wheelers will be
exploring the Baltic coast and Germany in
mid-September with a 14-day ride of
around 1,000 miles. Andy Beeson, Bernie
Norton, and Neil O’Brien set off on 10th
September flying to Billund in Denmark –
the airport next to Legoland (but please
don’t tell my grandchildren). After building
our bikes and finding our way out of the
airport, we then spend a few days cycling
across Denmark’s Baltic islands before
catching a ferry to Warnemunde in
Germany. From there, we follow the Baltic
coast to the island of Ruegen, famous for its
beaches and wildlife, and also for the
massive holiday camp built by Hitler for
Nazi party members. It is still standing, and
is still the largest building in Europe
although completely usused. We then head
south, following the Havel river to Berlin
where we have a day sightseeing. Then we
take an overnight train to Dusseldorf and
cycle back to Rotterdam along the Rhine
before taking the ferry back to Hull and the
short ride home. We don’t expect the
weather to be as hot as the Danube last
year (thank goodness!) but hopefully we
won’t need rain jackets every day. Beer will
be mandatory along with frites and
mayonnaise, and currywurst. We will
provide a report when we are back and post
photos on Facebook for anyone interested.
Open Event Corner
Open event time trials began early
in Feburary with Richard Sheldrake
and Andy Newham tearing up the
tarmac across the country. Richard
did an excellent time of 21:37 a
nine second PB, with Andy
Newham grabbing a speedy 23:01
at Ranby. Both also competed in
the Coalville Whs 10. The Hillier
course saw Richard get 24:29 and
Andy get 25:37. Then Good Friday
on the V718 saw Billy Jarish and his
amazing record breaking
performance of 20:15 with Richard
and Andy getting in the 21s.
