Jenn Jorgensen, soph-omore guard, has been aheadof the competition on the

  basketball court. She wasnamed the NAIA women’s

 basketball player of the weektwo weeks in a row.

Jorgensen said, “I never

really thought that I would getthe NAIA player of the week,so it came as a shock.”

Jorgensen reached twoother personal milestones thispast month. She has scoredover 1,000 points and alsoachieved her career high of 41 points on Wednesday, Jan.19 against Ashford University.The team won 69-63.

Her career high was 36points, which she set on Jan.12 against William PennUniversity. She tied that scoreon Jan. 15 against ViterboUniversity.

“I really just go out andhope for the best,” Jorgensensaid.

Head coach Garey Smithwas very happy with Jorgensengetting named player of theweek.

“She is a pretty goodathlete that has worked hardthrough her career,” Smithsaid. “Jenn has worked withthe team concept, and it showswithin her stats that she helpsthe team. Her quickness helpsher get up and down the floor.She is able to get the ball to

others when she is double oreven triple teamed.”

According to Nicole  Wilson, junior guard, theteam’s motto is whoever hasthe hot hand that game, getthem the ball, and Jorgensenhas been the hot hand.

 Wilson said, “She can hitthe open outside shot or canalso drive into the lane andthat’s awesome.”

Jorgensen said her teamdoes a good job getting herthe ball, either in a set play orfast breaks.

“It definitely helps whenyou have good teammatesaround you that are supportiveand want to see you succeed.They are willing to pass upa shot to get an assist,” saidJorgensen.

To be good at basketballJorgensen suggests to startyoung, put extra hours in theoff-season, get in shape anddon’t settle for just beingaverage.

Jorgensen said, “Thissport is definitely more then

  just picking up a ball andplaying during the game.”
