Introduction
This session covers a very basic overview of NPEx and its web interface;
• Background• How to configure tests and setup mapping• How to use the web interface• ….more
We are using videos in this presentation that have been recorded using the NPEx TEST system – information may not be accurate.
We assume no prior experience of using NPEx.
But first, a very brief overview of NPEx…

Problems with Lab to Lab
The current paper-based system is slow and costly:
• A manual system for sending external tests (2-3% per annum are externally referred)
• Wastes an estimated £3m per year in lost worker productivity• Paper-based system prone to error• Constant data re-entry between laboratories• Mistakes are easy to make but hard to spot• Lives of patients potentially resting on results• Loss of data
-
Lab to Lab vision
“A national lab to lab exchange for laboratory medicine. From any lab, to any
lab”
• Provided for the NHS, by the NHS• Every lab in the UK is linked to every other lab
in the UK• One single “exchange” for the whole of the UK
• Werlabs• UKNEQAS – Birmingham Quality• Non-N3 Labs

NPEx is technologically agnostic
-
The web interface allows you to interact with the service and configure your lab.It has two main components:
• Catalogue - configuration of the laboratory in NPEx• Setting up tests• Configuring users and assigning permissions• Configuring your shipping manifest• And more….
• Lab2Lab - operational day-to-day management• View orders and results• Create shipments and shipping manifests

Custom Manifest
The Shipping Manifest is the only piece of paper that should be printed during the NPEx process.
Performing labs have full control over what they want the shipping manifest to look like when they receive the samples.
To configure the shipping manifest: “My Manifest” in catalogue
Edit details such as;• Landscape or portrait• How the samples are sorted• What information is included about a sample• And more…
