Introduction
The Stages of Change Model was originally developed in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s by James Prochaska and Carlo DiClemente at the University of Rhode Island.
Change is a process that involves several stages-
People progress through different stages on their way to successful change. Each of us progresses through the stages at our own rate.
Each person must decide for himself or herself when a stage is completed and when it is time to move on to the next stage. This decision must come from the inside. Long term
change cannot be imposed from the outside.
In each of the stages, a person has to grapple with a different set of issues and tasks that relate to changing behavior.

The stages of change are:
1. Precontemplation (Not yet acknowledging that there is a problem behavior that needs to be changed)
2. Contemplation (Acknowledging that there is a problem but not yet ready or sure of wanting to make a change)
3. Preparation/Determination (Getting ready to change)
4. Action/Willpower (Changing behavior)
5. Maintenance (Maintaining the behavior change) and
6. Relapse (Returning to older behaviors and abandoning the new changes)
This presentation focuses on stages 2 and 3.

No one crosses the finish line who is not there at the starting line.
How does one get to the starting line?
www.ChangeDynamics.net
It begins with a desire.
You have to want it.

It begins with a desire.
You have to want it.
Desire comes from knowing the bitterness of defeat…
www.ChangeDynamics.net
And the exhilarating taste of victory

Start here:
What do I want?
Out of the whole world of possibility..
What do I want?
www.ChangeDynamics.net
What will I reach for?
And why?
www.ChangeDynamics.net
No one can answer that for you.
Only you.
www.ChangeDynamics.net
You could reach for nothing
And that has it’s costs too
www.ChangeDynamics.net
You are creating your own future now by the choices you make.
www.ChangeDynamics.net
The first step is a conscious decision.
Not "I want___",
but…
www.ChangeDynamics.net
It’s your choice.
One final point.
Don't just think your decision.
Express it. Write it. Tell someone. Draw a picture. Get it out there.
Express it.

Feels goods, doesn’t it.
Enjoy it.
But know…

This is just the beginning.
