y A BUSINESS PROCESS or BUSINESSMETHOD is a collection of related, structuredactivities or tasks that produce a specific service or
product (serve a particular goal) for a particularcustomer or customers.
y A business process begins with a mission objectiveand ends with achievement of the business objective

TYPES OF BUSINESS PROCESS
y There are three types of business processes:
y MANAGEMENT PROCESSES: The processes that governthe operation of a system. Typical management processesinclude "Corporate Governance" and "Strategic
Management".y OPERATIONAL PROCESSES: The processes that
constitute the core business and create the primary valuestream. Typical operational processes are Purchasing,
Manufacturing, Advertising and Marketing, and Sales.y SUPPORTING PROCESSES: which support the core
processes. Examples include Accounting, Recruitment,Call centre, Technical support.

BUSINESS PROCESS MODEL
y A business process model includes:
1. Has a Goal
2. Has specific inputs
3. Has specific outputs
4. Proper utilization of resources
5. Has a number of activities that are performed in
some order.6. Creates value of some kind for the customer. Thecustomer may be internal or external.

y Planning is the foremost and most importantfunction of the business management.
y It is also called strategic function.
y Planning involves what to do , how to do, when to doand by who will do.
y Planning function is performed by Top Managementwhich includes Board Of Directors , CEOs, General
Managers etc.

y Organizing function comes after planning function
y It the process of dividing the work into convenienthours and duties and grouping of such duties in the
form of positions, grouping of various positions intothe department and sections, assigning duties toindividual positions and delegating authority to eachposition so that work is carried out as planned.

y Staffing involves the recruitment of staff orpersonnel, training and development , fixingfinancial compensations and appraisal of the
personnel in an organization.y Staffing is to recruit right person for the right job.

y Directing means when people are available in theorganization ,they must know they expected to do inthe organization and manager communicates their
duties.y Supervisor continuously guiding and leading the
subordinates for better work performance andmotivate them to work with zeal and enthusiasm.
y Directing involves communicating , motivating andleading.

y Coordination is the orderly synchronizing the effortsof the subordinates to provide the proper amount,timing and quality of the execution so that their
unified efforts lead to achievement of the objectives.y Coordinating function coordinates the work of the all
the departments in the organization.

Controlling
y Controlling involves the identification of actualresults, comparisons of actual results with expectedresults as set by planning process, identification of
the deviation between the two , if any , and taking ofcorrective actions so that actual results match withexpected results.
y Controlling function is the basis for planning
