Bluetooth® Diagnostics and Troubleshooting
• Havethecustomerdemonstratetheconcern,thenpairandconnectanotherphone,andconfirmtheconcernispresentwiththe2ndphone.
• Try to duplicate the concern with other phones if thecustomer’sphoneisnotavailable.
• Determine if the concern can be duplicated in a similarvehicle(samemodelyearandheadunitasthecustomer’svehicle).
• Ingeneral, if theconcerncannotbeduplicatedwitha2ndphone and only duplicates with the customer’s phone, theconcernmaybe related tophonecompatibilityor thespecific operating system or Apps/phone settings on thecustomer’s phone. Advise the customer to confirm if thelatestphoneoperatingsystemsoftwarehasbeeninstalledontheirphone.
• If the concern can be duplicated on both the customer’svehicle and a similar vehiclewithmultiple phones, open aTechlinecaseandprovidethespecificphoneandheadunitsoftwareinformationlistedinthe“OpeningaTechlineCase”sectionbelow.
• Iftheconcerncanbeduplicatedonthecustomer’svehiclewithmultiplephonesandcannotbeduplicatedonthe2ndlike vehicle, update the head unit software (if a TSB andsoftware is available) or order a replacement head unit(if no TSB/software is available). If Techline assistance isrequested, includeboththephoneinformationandtheheadunitsoftwareversionfrombothofthevehiclestested.
Opening a Tech Line CaseThefollowing information isnecessarytoopenaBluetooth-related Techline case requesting assistance regarding aBluetoothcomplaint:
Customer and dealer test phone information includingmanufacturer, model, operatingsystemofthephone, carrier.
Description of the concern (unable to pair, disconnects,Bluetooth sound quality, etc.) and any details (frequency, mediamode, whiledriving, etc.) regardingtheconditions inwhichtheconcernoccurs.
Head unit type (navigation, base audio, UVO withoutnavigation) and head unit software version (refer to TSBELE091 to obtain the software version of each head unitand identify theheadunit type suchasAVN4.0,UVO3.0,etc.). It is recommended to add a picture of the head unitsoftwareversiontothecasealongwithapictureorvideooftheconcern.
Does the vehicle have any aftermarket electric/electronicitems installed and what devices/cables etc. does thecustomer have plugged into the device ports (12 volt port,USB/chargingports,etc.)?
Basic Bluetooth® Recommendations
Many Bluetooth® connectivity/auto-connection concerns areresolvedbyperformingthefollowing:
1. Deletethephonefromtheheadunitandtheheadunitfromthephone
2. Turnthephoneoffandthenbackon
3. Re-pairthephonetotheheadunit

Bluetooth® Sound Quality
• Usingthecustomer’sphone,callalandlinefromthevehicle,suchasaServiceAdvisororServiceManageratthedealer,andattempttoduplicateanyBluetooth®concerns.
• If the customer complaint is calling from vehicle tovehicle via a Bluetooth® connection to a cell phone, someconcernssuchas “clipping” (lossofsomewords)duringaconversation can occur, especially if both mobile phonesarehighdefinitionsoundcapable(latestiPhonesandsomeAndroidphones).Thephonemanufacturershaveincreasedthenoisecancellationonthephoneside.Eachheadunitalsohasnoisecancellation;therefore,talkingvehicle-to-vehicleusingBluetooth®canresultinquadruplednoisecancellation.Theextremecircumstanceiswhenthetwo(2)peoplearetalkingsimultaneously.

• WhenconnectingtoAndroidAutothephonewillautomaticallypair to Bluetooth® (if it has not already been paired).Bluetooth® is connected and calls are made utilizing theBluetooth®whileconnectedviaAndroidAuto.
• When connecting to Apple CarPlay, it is perfectly normalfor the customer to see a message that Bluetooth® isdisconnecting. Bluetooth® is not connected when AppleCarPlay is connected (phone calls are made through thewiredcableconnection).
