• Budgetsaregettingtighter,soweneedamorestrategicwaytouseourresources

• Ifwe’regoingtodomorewithless,thenwe’regoingtoneedtobecomebetterinnovatorsandcreativeproblemsolvers.

• Fortunately,oneofourcorevaluesisinnovation• Givenourparticularcultural,weusedthelanguageofpedagogy.We

designedacurriculum,weused‘activelearning’,weusedreflectivepractice,wedelivereda‘course’whichwecalledInnovationBootCamp.

• Webroughtourstrengthsaslibrarians—wehelppeoplewiththeresearchprocessandarenotexpertsinanyonesubject.Weusethereferenceinterviewtoelicitfrompeoplewhattheyneedandwantandworktohelppeoplearticulatetheirinformationneedsandfacilitatetheirwork.

• Wefocusedonquestionsaroundprocess:Canwemakecreativitymoreofahabit?Canweforgeastrongteamwiththetrustittakestostimulatecreativity?

InnovationBootCamp

• Operateda12‐weeksocialexperimentcalledInnovationBootCamp• Adoptedamilitarymetaphor(includingcamouflage)because:

o Wewantedtobedisciplinedinourtraining(likemilitarybootcamp)o Inherenttensionbetweenthechaosthatoftencomeswithcreativity

andtheregimentedorderthatcomeswiththemilitary• Deliveredanopencalltothelibraryandrecruitedsixindividuals• Spent2hourseveryFridayafternoonforanentiresemestersomecreativity
