GENERAL INFORMATION• Admission requirements
– B.Sc. (IT) or B.Com. (IT) degree with IT as a major– 60% average for the four 3rd year IT-modules
• Duration of studies– 8 modules plus project module = Honours Degree– Choice of 1 or 2 years
• One year: – 4 modules 1st semester– 4 modules 2nd semester– Project module = year module
• Two years– Spread above over 2 years
– Project must be completed in 1 year

– Conditional acceptance, depending on final results (60%
average across all 4 IT modules on final year level)
– To be signed by Dr De Wet.

– Research Master’s degree: Code 4792• Dissertation (180 credits) = RIS700
– Structured Master’s degree: Code 4793• Extended research essay (120 credits) = RIS791• Plus 3 research modules
STRUCTURED MASTERS• Choose 3 modules from the following research areas:
– RIS715 HCI Dr. De Wet– RIS725 Data warehousing and mining Dr. Kotzé– RIS730 Educational technology Dr. Nel– RIS731 Eye-tracking Dr. Beelders
• The modules will be in the form of a literature study. • Except for RIS730, there will be no formal classes and no
examination. You will choose a topic and then you must summarize from the literature all the work that has been done on the topic and identify a research project in terms of a problem statement.
• Deliverable: A document consisting of an Introduction, Literature review, a Problem Statement and a Conclusion. You will be evaluated on this document.
STRUCTURED MASTERS
• After passing the 3 modules:– You select one of your three research projects
identified in the modules passed and then continue with that project towards an extended dissertation – RIS791
– Deliverable: Document in which you add additional literature resources (to those gathered in your previous literature review), the Research Hypotheses & Objective(s), Research Design & Methodology, Results & Data Analysis and Conclusions.
– You will be evaluated on this document by your lecturer and an external examiner.
STRUCTURED MASTERS
Structured Master’s in 1 year:• Three modules must be completed in 1st semester and
dissertation (RIS791) must be completed in the 2nd semester
Structured Master’s over 2 years:• Modules must all be completed before you can
commence with RIS791 Choice of modules is dependent on whether they are presented in the 1st or 2nd semester. It will be revised every year based on the demand.
