AIM AND OBJECTIVES:INDUSTRIAL TRAINING To expose students to engineering experience and

knowledge, which is required in industry, where these are not taught in lecture rooms.

To use the experience gained from the industrial training in discussion held in the lecture rooms.

To get a feel of the ‘work environment’. To gain experience in writing report in engineering

works/projects. To expose students to the engineering responsibilities

and ethics. To expose the students to future employers. With all the experience and knowledge acquired, it is

hoped at the student will be able to choose appropriate work upon graduation.

Industrial Training also provides a systematic introduction to the ways of industry and developing talent and attitudes, so that one can understand how Human Resource Development works.

Systematic Introduction to the ways of industry and developing talent and attitudes, so that he/she can enjoy fully a career in engineering, while recognizing his/her responsibilities as a professional engineer of the future.

MY EXPERIENCE IN OGUN STATE TELEVISION I started work on Wednesday 13th June, 2012 with a tour through the broadcastingMedia house. I was introduced to different equipment's being used in the media used like the TELEPROMPTER.

My nature of activities and summary of work done in the organisation by me are statedand well defined, described and refined in the ensuing slides. Before I got to OGTV, I knew little or nothing about networking, hardware, software,Computer basics and security, troubleshooting, network diagnostics and website Management/Maintenance I also knew how to relate with people of different calibres and status, because respectis paramount in the firm.

ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENTS AND THEIR VARIOUS USES 1) Soldering Iron: It supplies heat to melt the solder so that it can flow into the joint between two work pieces. 2) Gum 3) A roll of LED 4) A multi-meter: A multi-meter or a multi-tester, also known as

a VOM (Volt-Ohm meter), is an electronic measuring instrument that combines several measurement functions in one unit. Amplifier: An amplifier is a device for increasing the power of a

signal by use of an external energy source.

A motherboard (sometimes alternatively known as the mainboard, system board, planar board or logic board[1]) is a printed circuit board (PCB) found in all modern computers which holds many of the crucial components of the system, such as the central processing unit (CPU) and memory, and provides connectors for other peripherals.

BASIC NETWORKING TOOLS AND DEVICES USED FOR TROUBLESHOOTING AND DIAGNOSTICS

ROUTER: A router is a device that forwards data packets between computer networks,

creating an overlay internetwork. A router is connected to two or more data lines from

different networks.

OPTICAL FIBRE DISTRIBUTION FRAME: Fibre optic ODF is used to manage and organize the fibre optic cables and fibre optic splice connections, fibre optic ODF also provide the strong closure to protect the inner optical components.

CABLE TESTER: A cable tester is an electronic device used to verify the electrical connections in a cable or other wired assembly.

A crimping tool is a tool designed to crimp or connect a connector to the end of a cable. For example,

network cables and phone cables are created using a crimping tool to connect the RJ-45 and RJ-11 connectors to the end of the cable. In the picture to the left, is an example of what a crimping tool looks like. This example shows a tool capable of crimping both RJ-11 and RJ-45 connectors.

SWITCH: A network switch is a computer networking device that links network segments or network devices.A switch is a telecommunication device which receives a message from any device connected to it and then transmits the message only to the device for which the message was meant.

MEDIA CONVERTER: A fibre media converter is a simple networking device that makes it possible to connect two dissimilar media types such as twisted pair with fibre optic cabling. Fibre media converters support many different data communication protocols including Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, as well as multiple cabling types such as coax, twisted pair, multi-mode and single-mode fibre optics.

FIBRE OPTIC CABLE: This is a technology that uses glass (or plastic) threads (fibres) to transmit data. A fibre optic cable consists of a bundle of glass threads, each of which is capable of transmitting messages modulated onto light waves.

REVIEW OF WORK DONE DURING THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

DISK CLEANUP: Disk Clean-up (cleanmgr.exe)

is a computer maintenance utility included in Microsoft Windows designed to free up disk space on a computer's hard drive.

The utility first searches and analyses the hard drive for files that are no longer of any use, and then removes the unnecessary files.

DISK DEFRAGMENTATION: Disk Defragmenter is a utility in Microsoft Windows designed to increase access speed by rearranging files stored on a disk to occupy contiguous storage locations, a technique called defragmentation.

Defragmenting a disk minimizes head travel, which reduces the time it takes to read files from and write files to the disk.

REVIEW OF WORK DONE DURING THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

INSTALLING WINDOWS 7: This is the act of loading or installing a new operating system on a brand new(refurbished) system or an existing system.

An operating system (OS) is a collection of software that manages computer hardware resources and provides common services for computer programs. The operating system is a vital component of the system software in a computer system. Application programs require an operating system to function.

Streaming media is multimedia that is constantly received by and presented to an end-user while being delivered by a provider.

The live streaming device to the left, has its own Internet Protocol (IP) Address, so therefore it can be allocated its own specific MAC {Media Access Control} Address. This particular live video streaming device has the capability of supporting multiple network access points.

It also has the ability to choose between High Quality Stream which is for High- Definition Screen resolution and Regular Stream which are for Pixel Based screens like iPad, iPhone, Blackberry Devices and other Smartphones and tablet devices.

The streaming device is connected to a stand-alone computer system where by the administrator can log in to the user interface of the streaming machine and choose preferences as applicable.

CONCLUSION In conclusion, there were many things that I have experienced

and learned during the four months of my Industrial Training at Ogun State Television. The whole training period was very interesting, instructive and challenging. Through this training I was able to gain new insights and more comprehensive understanding about the real industry working condition and practice. The four months placement also has provided me the opportunities to develop and improve my soft and functional skills.

All of this valuable experience and knowledge that I have gained were not only acquired through the direct involvement in task given but also through other aspect of the training such as work observation, interaction with colleagues, superior, and other people related to the field. From what I have undergone, I am very sure that the industrial training program has achieved its entire primary objectives. It’s also the best way to prepare students to face the real working life. As a result of the program now I am more confident to build my future career which I have already started in Ogun State Television.

Finally, I would like to conclude by encouraging all students to make good use of their time during SIWES and appreciate his or her profession, via this training. It’s actually a forum for ushering one into the labour market.

RECOMMENDATIONSFrom this experience carried out during the industrial training period. I hereby humbly make the following recommendations believing that when carefully followed there will be a way forward to a better future.

Companies should show more commitment to the training of engineering students so as to improve the quality of training given.

Government should endeavour to improve business relationships with companies that have SIWES students, as a way of adding importance to the scheme, in reality.

Students or trainees should learn to comport themselves well in these companies so as not to send a bad signal which may discourage such company from taking or accepting future SIWES students.

Six months of SIWES should be strictly adhered to because there is

really much to learn.

ITF should pay students during training to alleviate the problems of transportation than waiting till the end of the programme. The present allowance should be reviewed upward to reflect present economic realities.

The supervisors from the universities and ITF should visit the students at the right time, as this really would be a motivation.
