From the President’s Desk
We are just been a witness to a great show of
democracy winning over the country deeply etching
the belief in democratic systems of governance. The
ardent task of taking on the Government by the 'aam
admi' is an achievement in itself. The disease is so
deep rooted in our system that any amount of
coercion would have backfired, but for the
determination of the near octagenerian who
sacrificed his valuable time and effort for the sake of
the country is to be admired.
It has surely created a new dimension of looking
things with a different perspective. The collective
strength of the people without resorting to politics is
very difficult to be diverted to a common cause.
Still, it was shown that such a method is possible in
the modern India.
The time has come to address the two most deadly
issues impeding growth in the country. The first
being corruption and the other terrorism. We hope
we shall be able to tackle these problems very soon
for the country to join the ranks of economic
superpower.

Bidding good bye is a hard job. The fact remains, it's my turn to do it. I will be laying down the office at the end of the month with a mixed feeling of happiness, contentment and sorrow.
I am happy that we could be very active and vibrant throughout the year. Indian Chamber had undertaken quite a number of activities which has added to its visibility. When I took over the mantle from Mr. Jasbir Singh Chawla, I had a dream, an achievable vision and a transparent agenda. I am contented since I could achieve substantially the whole of it, though I need the support of my successor to complete some of the activities which were initiated and are in different stages of implementation. I am sad that I will not henceforth, also be known as the President of Indian Chamber. But I join the band wagon of the legendary Past Presidents, which is immortal.Last one year was quite eventful, and very hectic. One year back when I assumed this prestigious post, I was not very sure as to how far I would be able to do justice to this august chair. I had to maintain the honour and dignity of this Honourable Institution. It was a challenge for me. Of course it is for all of you here to judge and comment my performance, but here I am, a contented man, making a gracious exit with my heart full of gratitude to one and all who co-operated and worked with me during my tenure as the President of this Prestigious Body. We welcomed the New Year with a bash. The lively entertainment programmes arranged in the Children's park went off well. Our project, to make the “west Kochi-the best Kochi” undertook several developmental activities which included the 'Mass cleaning” of the Fort kochi beach. The newly elected Mayor of Kochi, Mr.Tony Chammany was accorded a warm reception and it was heartening to hear the Mayor acknowledging our crucial role in the overall development of the City. The informal gathering of the Past Presidents of the Chamber enriched us with suggestions and helped us to formulate strategies to restore the past glory of this Institution. The Green Award was instituted by the Chamber for the first time as a part of our eco-friendly project. Best wishes to the new team.
