TABLE OF CONTENTS
Egis has been involved for 70 years in the design (conceptual and detailed) of nuclear power plants for EDF, as well as in nuclear
installations for the CEA (research facilities) and for AREVA (uranium enrichment and spent fuel recycling facilities).
Over the last decade, this expertise has been enhanced through our involvement into major
projects paving the way for nuclear industry renewal: research reactor on material ageing under irradiation JULES HOROWITZ, research
reactor on fusion reaction ITER, lastest genera-tion of water-cooled reactors EPR, sodium-cooled fast breeder reactor ASTRID...
We offer to our clients support derived from unpa-ralleled feedback and state-of-the-art methodolo-gies and innovation in project design and evaluation.
This is our goal to the new nuclear field.

Design optimization• Using the most advanced design methodologies, calculation methods
and post-treatment tools, Egis offers design optimization of nuclear projects along with rigorous fulfillment of nuclear codes and standards
• Not limited to design methods and tools, design optimization by Egis also refers to 50+ years’ return of experience in nuclear projects design and construction

Earthquake engineering• Our expertise in earthquake engineering encompasses both new
nuclear build design and reassessment of existing plants, calculation methodologies and practical implementation on site (construction details)
• Our comprehensive experience has been enriched by practising various international codes and participating in elaborating some of them
• Focusing on numerical simulation, Egis masters the full range and most advanced seismic calculation methods: modal-spectral, time history, push-over, nonlinear transient analysis, SMA, CDFM, EPS…
45

RTIS
E
3D Reinforcement Modeling• 3D reinforcement modeling is very profitable for designing structural
elements with a high rebar density or with many embedded plates• The main pros of 3D rebar modeling are:
• Automatic detection of clashes between the rebars themselves and between the rebars and the anchor rods of the embedded plates
• Better visualization of the reinforcement• Direct definition of the formwork from the PDMS model• Interactivity between the 3D model and the 2D drawings

Airplane crash analysis• Often confidential, Egis has performed numerous airplane crash
analysis using simplified or advanced calculation methods including nonlinear transient fast dynamic analysis using ANSYS LS-dyna or Europlexus softwares
• In these studies, target (concrete wall or slab) or missile (airplane) behavior modeling may be nonlinear

Missiles, dropped objects• Modern approach for assessment or design of civil engineering
structures regarding missiles & dropped objects uses nonlinear explicit dynamic finite element simulation
• Egis not only has full command of these methodologies and dedicated tools; it is also able to compare numerical simulation with experiments

Seismic isolation• For many years and various projects (Cruas NPP, Kepco, Koeberg NPP,
JHR, Iter…) Egis has developed a rare expertise and specific know-how related to seismic isolation of nuclear buildings, including:
• Determination of the spatial arrangement of the seismic isolation assemblies by time-history analyses or response-spectrum analyses, design of the seismic isolation assemblies, specification of the performance requirements of the seismic isolation bearings, control of the specified performance requirements of the supply from qualification – Initial type tests - and manufacturing – factory production control tests - to installation

Prediction of RC cracking• The control of cracking is an important issue for reinforced concrete
structures, above all for nuclear buildings. Numerical tools today available for cracking prediction require a huge computational effort. In collaboration with EDF R&D, Egis has developed a new constitutive rule for reinforced concrete shells, called GLRC_HEGIS, which is implemented into the finite element Code-Aster. This law guarantees a low computation cost and allows the engineer to estimate with high accuracy crack orientation, spacing and width under in-plane, out-of-plane, static and cyclic loading. This kind of development places Egis at the forefront of international research and innovation in the field of reinforced concrete modeling

Lightning engineering• Egis inherited the lightning expertise of SECHAUD & METZ. Based on
a 15 years’ experience, our engineers performed around 1 500 lightning protection studies for complex structures, many of them in the nuclear field
• The EMC-Lightning department relies on 3 complementary approaches for a better understanding of electromagnetic phenomena: Normative and regulatory aspect, optimization and measurement campaigns
