2003Jun. Preparatory office for the International Center for Young Scientists (ICYS) opened.Jul. Researcher recruitment activities began.Sep. ICYS was formally launched. Partnerships with international research institutes began.
2004Feb. ICYS office and labs were completed in the nano and biomaterials research wing of NIMS (Namiki
district).Apr. Program for assigning newly hired NIMS researchers to ICYS was launched.Jun. Symposium commemorating the founding of ICYS was held.Sep. First Evaluation Committee meeting was held.
2005Mar. ICYS Workshop 2005 was held.Aug. Second Evaluation Committee meeting was held. Nov. Intermediate evaluation was conducted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.Dec. Second ICYS Symposium was held.
2006Feb. ICYS Workshop 2006 and first IAMF meeting (Mishima) were held.Apr. Program for assigning researchers obtaining NIMS research seed money to ICYS was launched.Jul. ICYS-ICMR Summer School 2006 (Tsukuba) was held. ICYS/NIMS internship program was launched. ICYS alumni program was developed.

1 (~ 383 cm-1) Raman mode to that of the Si substrate (520 cm-1). This new quantity can be used as a unique criterion for counting the number of layers (NLs) for atomic sheets. The errors for the assgined NL values (by AFM) and intensity ratios are 10% and 5%, respectively. (b) Thickness-dependent carrier transport for the atomic MoS2 layers, which is used to uncover the dominant carrier scattering mechanism. Both experimental and theoretical results are shown.
