Hunger Games – Character profiles
Peeta Mellark, Katniss Everdeen, Primrose Everdeen, Effie Trinket, Cinna,
Finnick Odair, Mrs Everdeen, Haymitch Abernathy, Caesar Flickerman, Annie
Cresta. Katniss is the hero of the film. She is
16 years old and lives with her sister
Primrose and mother Mrs. Everdeen.
Her home is district 12 and
volunteered to fight instead of her
vulnerable sister Primrose. She
participated in the 74th
hunger game
when she volunteered as a tribute to
save her sister and hoped of
winning. Her family are not very rich
and have to hunt for food. She has
good skills with using bows and
arrows.
Katniss Everdeen
Peeta Mellark
Peeta is also 16 years old like Katniss. He is
from district 12 and briefly from district 13.
He had developed a crush on Katniss and
was also chosen to compete in the 74th
hunger game. He and Katniss were chosen
to go together. Before competing in the
hunger games, he was occupied with being a
baker, painter and a soldier therefore he
was experienced in survival methods. His
father was kind but his mother was known
to beat him and his brother up a lot during
his childhood. Although he grew up in the
merchant business his childhood was not
very desirable.
Haymitch Abernathy
Haymitch is 41 years old. His weapon is his knife
and his supreme intelligence. Haymitch has won
the 50th
hunger games at the age of 16. He is
training and helping Katniss as she competes in
the hunger games and guiding her before the
games began. Katniss and Peeta had won the
74th
hunger games under his mentorship.
Haymitch survived some gruesome injuries
whilst competing at his age of 16.

The way teenagers are represented in the hunger games
The teenagers are surprisingly positively represented in this movie. The
protagonists are 2 teenagers; a girl and a boy. Often, teenagers are
represented as trouble makers and prevent the heroes from completing the
mission. Also, girls are shown as weak and gullible who need looking after. In
this movie, Katniss is very independent and strong minded which is the
opposite to what teenagers are shown as in most movies. It’s not typical of
movies to represent teenagers in a positive manner.
