Dear Parents,
Wow, what a week! The HS Finale concert on Tuesday, the IB Art Exhibitionand IB Film Festival and then Jazz night tonight, all in the same week!
I made some brief comments at the opening of the IB Art Exhibition and IBFilm Festival and I thought I would summarize some of those thoughts in thisweeks bulletin.
Given the current global economic conditions it is not uncommon to hearwithin the education sector of stories of financial cutbacks and budgettightening. Unfortunately in some national systems the axe often falls onperceived expensive Arts programs. I am always horrified when I hearthese stories. Here at ISM we fully support the whole child and this meansexposure to the full range of Fine and Performing Arts. We have anextraordinary Arts program and I believe that this teaches our students to becreative individuals who one day may well apply their creative thinking skillsto some of these complex global issues. I feel very fortunate to work in aschool environment that values the arts and promotes creativity. ISM is aricher place for it and our students are better students. One of those richprograms is our IB Film program. IB Film is in the advanced stage of a worldwide pilot program. At ISM we have been involved in this pilot for a numberof years and our student enrolment in IB Film has continued to grow. Wehave developed Intro and Explore Film courses that provide an excellent
base for the IB program. For next year we have decided to support thisprogram with a new purposely designed teaching space and editing suite. Inaddition we have committed to equipping this Film Lab with new state of theart technology. Watch this space for more exciting ISM Films to be made nextyear!
Following on with the Arts theme please come along and support the 100%Dance performance by Dance Co on Friday, April 24 in the FAT. Actuallyconsider arriving early and spend time surrounded by the colors and imagesof the IB Art Exhibit in the FAT lobby!
Good luck to all our IASAS bound teams, Track and Field to Jakarta, Softball
to Singapore and Badminton to Taipei. Go Bearcats!

season IASAS tournaments are on this weekend. On behalf of all ourschool community we wish the best of luck to all our athletes and coachesfor the last IASAS experience of this school year. We hope that it will be asuccessful trip and our students will remain injury free, perform above andbeyond their own personal expectations and also find the magic team spiritneeded for a successful IASAS trip.
It has also been a very busy week with the civil unrest in Bangkok and thelate cancellation of the softball tournament. It has been a big task to turn theevent around is four short days and Singapore American School deservespecial thanks for picking the tournament up at such late notice and beingwilling to host.
I would also like to say a special thanks to Liza Van Klaveren and her teamof helpers who have arranged the send off lunches for our IASAS athletesover the past year. It takes a great deal of work, time and effort to arrangethese and on behalf of the coaches, ATAC office and our athletes thank youLiza and all the Moms who have contributed to the send offs this year.

From the HS Graduation Committee:Graduation Announcement CardsGraduation Announcement cards are formal cards that are sent to friends and relatives, particularly those who are abroad, t

regarding the graduation rites of the graduating student. Often the student includes a graduation picture within the announcement card.
Reservations for announcement cards can be ordered through the high school office, look for Laurie Atilano. You can reserve a minimum
6 cards at 60.00 pesos each ( 360.00 pesos ) which must be paid at the Cashiers Office.
There will only be a limited quantity available. Reservations will thus be on a first come first serve basis. You need to present your cashier
receipt to claim your reserved graduation announcement cards.
