Up until the 1950's, appraising the value of diamonds were
fairly inadequate. Depending on where you had it appraised, the
same stone may have been evaluated differently.

Fortunately, GIA's 4C system has become a universal grading method
that is used when assessing diamonds and other precious stones.

The 4C grading system examines some of the diamond's most important physical

Cut
order to determine the cut grade of the diamond, you must calculate the things that influence its face-up
appearance. This includes the D-to-Z scale, the stone's refracting ability, its brightness, scintillation,
overall design and the craftsmanship involved.

Generally speaking, the heavier diamonds are more valuable. One carat is equal to 200mg and can be divided into 100 points.
For example:If a jeweler says the stone is a 50 pointer, it weights .5 carats.
