You will need to read, listen to, or view your source.
Decide whether or not the source contains important information for your topic.
If you decide to use any information from a source, you will need to complete a “Resource Card” for it.
A “Resource Card” is where you record information about the source such as title, author, etc.
How do I gather and record my information?

When you find facts you would like to
include in your report, you’ll need to complete
a fact card.
When completing a fact card, do not write in complete sentences; use “fact fragments.”
Remember to identify the source
(encyclopedia, non-fiction book, website) from which your fact
came by labeling with a resource number. (This is the number you put in
the top right corner of your resource card.)
This should be the same number as the resource card you wrote for the
resource you are using.
This is the page number you found
your information on in the resource you
are using.
![Page 13: How to Complete the Puzzle of… BIG 6 RESEARCH on the Planets](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062516/56649e0f5503460f94af9399/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
What are “Fact Fragments”????Fact Fragments come from complete sentences that you would find in a resource such as an encyclopedia, non-fiction book, or
website.
Fact Fragments protect you from plagiarizing someone else’s work. Plagiarism is when you write an author’s exact words down and use them as your own and do not give them credit for their
work.
Fact Fragments are pieces of information from the text you are reading. You can exclude prepositions (with, on, beneath, over, etc.), articles (the, a, an), and any other unimportant words. You
can even exclude your topic’s name if it is written in the text. You already know what you are researching!
You can go to this website to watch a demonstration of how to write “Fact Fragments” and you can even practice on your own!
