The human brain is a remarkable organ.
![Page 3: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
3
Every moment it takes in a
massive amount of information
and organises it into patterns that we can
recognise and understand.
![Page 4: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
4
However, the brain can only process so much information at
one time.
![Page 5: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
5
In order to make sense of the world,
it engages in three specific activities:
1. Deletes2. Distorts3. Generalises
![Page 6: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)

![Page 7: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
7
When we decide to focus on something, the brain
automatically selects out information that does not
support that area of focus.
![Page 8: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
8
We start seeing more of what we're looking for
and less of what we aren't looking for.
![Page 9: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
9
The danger comes when we start looking for
the wrong things.
If we look for problems, we will find
them!
![Page 10: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
10
Conversely, if you start focusing
on your goal and vision
you will see every
opportunity that comes your way.
![Page 11: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
11
Focus on problems and you miss the opportunity
Focus on opportunity
and the problems will vanish
![Page 12: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
12
That's why setting goals and having a vision is so
important.
![Page 13: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
![Page 14: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
14
The human brain also has a tendency to
distort or exaggerate the truth to make the
good things better and the
bad things worse.
![Page 15: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)

16
Distortion is characterised by the use of extreme words such as "never" or "always“
![Page 17: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
17
‘’That client never accepts my calls’’

18
‘’I’ve always been rubbish at sales’’
![Page 19: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
19
‘’Every time I call they are rude to me’’
![Page 20: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
20
‘’No one is hiring at the moment’’
![Page 21: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
21
Distortion puts us in disempowering mental and
emotional statesand focuses on the
problem rather than the solution.
![Page 22: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
Generalise
![Page 23: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
23
Generalisation is the process through which our
beliefs are formed.
This is where we draw global conclusions
based on one, two or more experiences.
![Page 24: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
![Page 25: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
25
Generalisation is one of the ways that we learn.
We take the information we have and draw broad
conclusions about the world based on this experience.
![Page 26: How the Brain Works part 1`](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022042619/58756da51a28abd80a8b686f/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
26
However it can be our enemyif we take a single event and
make it into a lifetime of experience.

27
This is a common occurrence in sales!
