Dr.Park: 07:23 Yeah.Andalsocortisolis...oneofthethingsaboutcortisolisthatit'scontrolledbyyourcircadianrhythm.Soit'sreallynotthatmuchaffectedbyyoursleeppatterns,butit'smoreeffectivebyyourcircadianrhythm.Soit'sgoingtobehighestwhenyoufirstwakeupanditgoeslowerthroughouttheday,butnotsleepingwell,byincreasingyourstresshormones,stresslevels,willtendtoincreasedcortisolingeneral.

Dr.Park: 08:31 So,lightasamajor,suppressantformelatonin.That'swhywhenyouuselightatnight,it'ssuppressesmelatonin.Soit'shardtofallasleep.Andalsogoingbacktothewholestressresponse,I'vementionedthismanytimesinthepast,thatthepathwaythatproducesmelatoningoesfromyoureyetotheretina,tothehypothalamus,downtothespinalcord,anareacalledthesuperiorcervicalganglion,anditgoesbackuptothebraintothepinealgland.Andso,thesuperiorcervicalganglionispartofyoursympatheticnervoussystem.Soifyouhaveanykindofmedicationthatsuppressesyoursympatheticnervoussystem,likethebloodpressuremedications,it'sgoingtoloweryourmelatoninlevels.
