from our shop floor to your front door Hooper Welding provided complete design and manufacture of its largest diameter vessel to date in 2005, when it constructed the 276” ID Crude Vacuum Tower. The Tower was over 120 feet in length and construction took 12 months from receipt of material to construct the 1.25”thick SA516-70 and 317L Clad Tower.
Hooper Welding provided full value service by not only manufacturing and testing this Vacuum Tower to ASME Section VIII, Division 1, but by coordinating the complete logistics plan. The plan involved specialized truck transport through Oakville to the Bronte Harbour, where special arrangements were made to load to barge.
A spud barge was used to secure the loading and the tiedown was completed in one day. From load out to delivery at the customer’s dockside, took 7 days complete.
Hooper Welding not only lived up to the challenge of manufacturing a complex Tower, but delivered a quality product to the customer’s door.

non-destructive examination
Visual inspection of our products to CWB, AWS and SNT-TC standards provide for
the finest appearance to the finished product. Non-destructive examinations through the use
of radiography, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant and ultrasonic testing allows us to conform to our
rigid quality standards and ensure the finished product is as good as it looks.
In addition to traditional NDE approaches, Hooper Welding has the most advanced digital radiography
equipment to perform expedited radiography of heavy wall construction. Further, the use of TOFD,
Time of Flight Diffraction and Phased Array inspection offers an alternative, volumetric ultrasonic
inspection. Both approaches are technological advancement to inspection and very efficient approaches
to heavy wall construction.
Through visual examinations and NDE above and beyond code requirements, our products are among
the best in the world.
