Bay fell into the rug trade shortly aftercollege when he happened to pass a ruggallery.
I was immediately struck by lightning,Bay said. The glowing colors, spectaculardesigns, even the smell of wool captivatedme. I asked for a job and received one doingthe manual labor. After working at the storefor several years, I took the plunge andopened my own gallery.
Ageless Rug Treasures specializes inhigh-quality, hand-knotted rugs in a widerange of colors, patterns andstyles from classic to casual tocontemporary. It can take twoor three weavers as long as sixto eight months to create one8- by 10-foot rug.
Building inventory is very
expensive and requires years of time, Baysaid.
Over the years his business has not onlygrown, but it has also changed. Bay rststocked primarily traditional rugs. Now heoffers just about any style one could dreamof.

Paul Hueseman, Pharm.D., opened theindependently-owned business in November2012 in the heart of downtown Kirkwood.
Growing up in Kirkwood, I have a lovefor the community here and saw a huge defi-cit in Kirkwood that we did not have a com-munity pharmacy that was independentlyowned, said Hueseman, whose father also isa pharmacist.
He started his career in pediatric phar-macy at the St. Louis Childrens Hospital.Prior to starting Greentree Pharmacy,Hueseman was a partner in BellevuePharmacy, a compounding pharmacy.

Hueseman enjoys applying that home-town touch and gets satisfaction from talkingto his patients about their medications andtheir condition to empower them with moreinformation in order to be healthy, he said.

Boxed Lunches and CateringAt Great Harvest Bread Co.
Tom and Judy Honigfort recently cele-
brated their second anniversary as owners of
Great Harvest Bread Co.
The couple opened the bakery in May
2011 and have been carrying on the commit-
ment to baking handcrafted, fresh whole
grain breads and sweets, as well as cookies,scones, muffins and bars.
In addition to serving lunch Monday
through Saturday, Great Harvest provides
bread to The Magic House Picnic Basket
Caf; delivers bakery-made mixes, hot cere-
als and granola to Schnucks in Des Peres;
and operates a booth at the Kirkwood
Farmers Market on Saturdays.
Our boxed lunch and catering business
is also catching on, said Judy Honigfort.
Before we opened, a potential customer
asked us about providing boxed lunch-
es, it was an area we put on the
back burner until we got our
business up and running.
Since then, we have
developed and refined our
catering menu to reflect what
we do best; sandwiches show-
casing our phenomenal, whole
grain breads, delicious sweets, and fruit and
vegetable trays. The options are unbelievably
fresh and wholesome.
At Great Harvest, the staff mills the
wheat daily on a hammer mill right in the
bakery and bakes it into breads and sweets
within 24 hours.Fresh wheat means fresh product,
Honigfort said. We start baking here every
morning at 4 a.m., handcraft each product,
and sell it fresh from our shelves, often still
warm.
Our production area is out in the open so
that customers can see that everything begins
and ends here. Nothing is shipped in frozen,
or pre-made, she added.
Baking onsite goes over well with cus-
tomers, who often comment on the smell of
our bakery when they first walk in,
Honigfort said. Customers are
invited to our bread board,
where they are offered a gen-
erous, free slice of whatever
has come out of the oven that
day.

Milagro Modern Mexican opened in mid-2010 in the new Shoppes at Olde Webster,offering chef-inspired Mexican food with afull-service bar. years in practice, continuing the family tradi-
tions started three generations ago.
Dr. Vincent Grimaud, opened the practice
in 1911 and was joined by his son, Dr. James
Grimaud, in 1938. The third and current
owner, Dr. Joseph Grimaud, began practicing
in 1985 and is pleased to have five family
members (plus two honorary members)
working in his office.Much has changed in dentistry over the
past 100 years, and technology has made
dentistry much more comfortable for
patients, said Dr. Joseph Grimaud.
Watson Pointe uses such technology as
digital X-rays, intra-oral cameras, a fluores-
cent cavity detection system, single-visit all-
porcelain restorations and crowns, and most
recently laser gum surgery.

Jerry Pfitzinger and his son, Scott, began their
auto repair business in 1982 in Valley Park

We have seen many, many changes through
the years in the automotive industry, said Scott

made using much lighter materials, more light-
weight plastic parts for the interior, and lighter
metals for exterior.
Remember the old days when purchasing a
well-made heavy vehicle was an important
factor? Todays vehicles are all about fuel effi-
ciency and less emission of harmful substances
into our atmosphere, he added. Unfortunately,
because many parts are made with lighter-
weight plastics, parts wear down much quicker
than in the early days when heavier materials
were used.

was the primary caregiver for her grand-
mother, who had been diagnosed with cancer.
Whittington was the only family member

Red LaMore Auto Body Co. is not only afamily business, its a family legacy celebrat-ing 75 years in business. Loren Red LaMoreand his wife, Esther, set up shop July 13, 1938,and moved across the street to the presentlocation in Webster Groves two years later.
The business was handed down to Red andEsthers son, Bob LaMore, after Red died in1982. Bob LaMore started working at the bodyshop in 1958. He has now retired and another

Our Town Route 66 WelcomesNewcomers To The Community
Thanks to Our Town Route 66, newcom-
ers to the area are greeted with the modern
equivalent of the welcome wagon: a packet
in the mail filled with gift certificates from
businesses in their new hometown.
We help our sponsor businesses extend
that old-fashioned feeling of hospitality to
the new movers, said Julie Douglas, who
owns Our Town Route 66 with her husband
Mike.
The company designs and prints gift cer-
tificates, mails them in an attractive crying-
to-be-opened package, tracks the certificates
when they are redeemed and sends a thank
you card on behalf of the business to the new
customer. The company provides a trackable
return-on-investment to sponsors.
Mike is a lifelong St. Louisan, and Julie
has lived in the area for more than 30 years.
The couple bought the 41-year-old direct
mail marketing franchise earlier this year.

Dave Haring began taking an interest inplants when he was 15 years old. At 19, hestarted Sundown Landscape Contractingwhile studying horticulture in college.
Now, 34 years later, he still runs the busi-ness, together with his wife, Jill, and their sonJeff, who joined the staff in 2008. Other staffmembers include foreman Mike Lay, who hasbeen with Sundown since 1999; designerBarb Riney, who joined in 1983; and anotherlong-time employee, office manager CindyEbl who started working at Sundown in1979.
When Sundown started 34 years ago, wewould do about any type of work, DaveHaring said. We now specialize in designand installation of gardens, patios, outdoorspaces and retaining walls and in solvingdrainage problems.
The companys servicesinclude consultation to helpindividuals identify land-scape spaces and problemareas and pick out properplant materials.
Our skilled installationcrew takes pride in applying
the kind of attention to detail and finishingtouches that leave each customer with a profes-sional, finished landscape that reflects his or herpersonality, lifestyle and taste, Haring said.
Haring enjoys meeting new clients anddeveloping a relationship with them for thelong term, he said.

The Milfords Have Helped To CreateBeautiful Kitchens & Baths Since 1969The Milford family has been helping cus-
tomers with kitchen and bath design since
1969. Tim Milford and his wife, Rita, the sec-
ond generation, now run Milford Kitchen and
Bath at its Fenton showroom.
Milford Kitchen and Bath started as a
showroom for homeowners, contractors andtheir customers to purchase quality kitchen
and bath products. The company is still pro-
viding that service. They offer bathroom fix-
tures, kitchen and vanity cabinets and counter-
tops in various materials including Onyx,
quartz and granite.
We have full-time kitchen and bath
designers helping customers with space plan-
ning and product selection, said showroom
manager Rita Milford.
Rita Milford grew up in a
family plumbing business and
managed that retail shop for 10
years. Designer Anna
Brusselback, who joined the
Milford showroom staff in
2003, has excellent plumbing
knowledge and could proba-
bly install any product we sell,
Milford said. New designer Rene Sondermann
joined the staff last year and the family dog,
Josh, greets customers at the door.
Tim Milfords father, Tom, established
Milford Plumbing Supply Co. in 1969 in
North St. Louis near Sportmans Park. In the
1970s, the company moved to South Countyand added sons Tom Jr. and John. Tim and his
sister Donna came on board in the 1980s. This
family foundation allowed them to add two
new locations over the years. Milford Supply
now has branches in St. Charles and South
County in addition to the showroom location.
Rita Milford most enjoys helping cus-
tomers create the bathroom or kitchen they
will enjoy for years. Its gratifying to see a
project go from an idea to reality.
Customers often compli-
ment the Milfords on their cus-
tomer service and refer other
customers to the store.
Customers are pleased
that we work with their bud-

options, Milford said.

Common Cents Rental Inc. has been inbusiness for four years, specializing in rental,sales and repair of lawn equipment.
The family company, which opened in2009 in Fenton, carries major equipmentbrands, including Husqvarna, Toro, Redmax,Tanaka, Hustler, Grasshopper, Echo andShindaiwa.
We acquired the rental equipment from agentleman who retired, said Jennifer Ficken,who owns the business with her husband,Bryan. It was a good fit because Bryan hasbeen in lawn and garden his whole life.
Customers can rent a wide range of lawnand power equipment, including air tools,aerators, skids, pallet forks, backhoes, con-crete tools, flooring tools, chainsaws, welders,drain snakes and more. The company alsodelivers some equipment.
We may have only been inbusiness for four years, but wehave many years in the field,Ficken said. Bryan originallyworked on mowers out of ourbackyard and it grew fromthere.
In those four years, we havegrown leaps and bounds because
of wonderful customers who have recom-mended us and through advertising, shesaid.
The Fickens already are training the nextgeneration. Their three daughters take turnscoming in to the shop to help during the sum-mer months.
Jennifer Ficken gets the most satisfactionin her job by treating customers fairly.
Ive heard too many stories of overchargesor improper care at other rental shops, Fickensaid. I enjoy talking to customers.
The customers appreciate that CommonCents prices are fair and realistic and that therental equipment is in very good shape. Theyalso comment on how friendly we are,Ficken said.
Although the weather is seasonably warmnow, Ficken noted that fall is not far off.
In the fall, it will be aerationtime, Ficken said. We will haveseed and fertilizer to sell and aera-tors to rent.
