Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
What an audience Jesus has in today's Gospel! "A great crowd of his disciples and a
large number of people from all over Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of
Tyre and Sidon." Disciples, pagans, and devout Jews gathered together to hear Jesus
speak in the Sermon on the Mount. All of these people had something in common. God
was someone to be bargained with, and if God liked you, you were rewarded with good
fortune. This Sunday, Jesus tells us a different story. "Woe to you who are rich, who are
filled now, who laugh, when all speak well of you. Blessed are you who are poor, you
who are now hungry, when people hate you and when they exclude you and insult you."
Jesus completely flips the script on what it means to be blessed by God. What he
proclaims as "woe" are states of life we often strive for, and "blessed" are the states we
work hard to avoid! Jesus is concerned with the kingdom of God and the world to come,
not the typical structures of power and privilege. The word "now" appears often in these
statements. Why? If you are well "now," that's beside the point. To be rich in this life
has no direct bearing on your immortal soul. If you're struggling "now," that's not an
indication that God has forgotten you or that—in light of eternity—you're worse off than
someone else. In fact, it could be an indicator that you're enduring something that will
bring you to a place of greater, eternal joy in the future. This Sunday, consider your
priorities. Who do we reject as not blessed, and thereby inflict woe upon ourselves?
When we encounter difficult situations in our own lives, do we see them as
opportunities to remember God and lean on His mercy and grace?

NEW INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY
In light of the many recent weather related closings and delays, the Holy Family
Parish Council felt that new parish guidelines needed to be established.
• If All Saints Catholic School classes are cancelled due to weather, 7:15am Mass
is cancelled and the church office will be closed. All other parish activities during
the day and evening are also cancelled.
• If All Saints Catholic School classes are delayed with a 2-hour late start due to
weather, 7:15am Mass is cancelled and the church office will open 2 hours late.
All other parish activities during that time frame will be cancelled or delayed.
• If All Saints Catholic School classes are dismissed early due to weather, the
parish office will also close at that time. All other parish activities for the
remainder of the day and evening are also cancelled.
• Please note, these guidelines DO NOT apply to the Teddy Bear Club.

SCHOOL CORNER:
DINE AT BUFFALO WILD WINGS—ASCS
will host a fundraising day on Monday,
February 18th, from 11:00am-11:30pm
at Buffalo Wild Wings, 4860 Utica Ridge
Road in Davenport. Just mention All
Saints and the school will receive 10%
of your total bill. Proceeds will be used
to help with the cost of the class trip to
Washington, D.C. later this year. For
more information, contact the school
office at 563-324-3205.
ASCS GALA—ASCS will hold their annual
Gala Fundraiser on Saturday, February
23rd, from 5:00pm-Midnight, at the
Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds Iowa
Building, 2815 West Locust Street in
Davenport. This year's theme will be
Boots, Chaps and Cowboy Hats and will
feature great food and music, raffles, a
wine pull, live and silent auctions, and
much more. To view a list of auction
items, visit www.ascsdav.org. Tickets
(per person) are $40 in advance or $50
at the door. For more information, to
donate an auction item, or to make your
reservations, call the school office at
563-324-3205. We hope you plan to
attend this major fundraiser for ASCS!
Social Action Corner
The next meeting of the Holy Family Social Action
Commission is Thursday, February 21st, at 6:30pm in the
parish office conference room. Everyone is welcome to
attend. You may want to work on a specific event, propose
a new ministry, inform us about social justice work you are
already doing or have questions about social action within
our parish. Whatever your motivation, please join us.
A representative from Quad Cities Interfaith will be there to
present information about their organization and its work locally.
2019 GUIDEBOOK DIRECTORY
• We are in the process of updating our annual Guide Book & Directory for Holy
Family. This book will contain everything pertinent to our church: the various
ministries, organizations, activities, and events, plus a complete directory of all
members. This book is provided and direct-mailed to each family at no cost to
the parish, and is again being subsidized by local businesses that advertise. Do
you own or manage a business or know of a business that could benefit from
advertising in our parish directory? Call the parish office at 322-0901 and we will
get you in touch with our representative from Guide Book Publishing for more
details! Recent survey results show that over 90% of families would rather
patronize a Guide Book & Directory advertiser over a non-advertiser. It “will pay”
to advertise in our new Guide Book & Directory.
• This is also your chance to update your family record with the parish. If you have
not already informed the office of an address change or a new phone number,
please let us know now so that the information in the Guidebook & Directory is
correct. Simply, call 322-0901 or send an email to [email protected]
with this information. This book helps us all to know more about our Church—the
who, what, where, when, why and how. Thank you!

FULFILLED: UNCOVERING THE BIBLICAL FOUNDATION OF CATHOLICISM
Have you ever been unable to explain the "why" of Catholic beliefs?
Have you ever wondered why the Old Testament sounds so different from the New Testament?
This 6-week study explores the biblical roots of the Catholic Faith. It uncovers God's consistent design for our
worship of him and his relationship with us. Learn how the Old Testament Tabernacle can be used as a blueprint
for the Catholic Faith and how Jesus fulfilled it in the New Testament.
The study begins Monday, March 11, 2019. Small groups will meet at 9:30am on Monday morning or 6:30pm on
Monday evening. Please call the office at 563-322-0901 to reserve your spot.
Check out The Catholic Messenger E-edition: Readers can enjoy a full-color replica of The Catholic Messenger in
electronic form as an E-edition. To get a sneak peek for free this weekend, visit The Catholic Messenger website at

Catholic Messenger on a laptop, desktop or tablet. And the e-edition has a searchable archive! No other media—print
