We believe the prophecy of Zechariah to be fulfilled in Jesus, the Messiah, who had to endure suffering and death on a cross. By
being baptized into his death, we are called to take up his cross and follow in his steps, and
to seek the God for whom we long.
Mass Intentions
Father’s Day Prayer
God our Father,
you govern and protect your people
and shepherd them with a father’s love.
You place a father in a family as a sign
of your love, care, and constant protection.
May fathers everywhere be faithful to the
example shown in the Scriptures:
steadfast in love,
forgiving transgressions,
sustaining the family,
caring for those in need.
Give your wisdom to fathers
that they may encourage and guide their children.
Keep them healthy so they may support a family.
Guide every father with the Spirit of your love
that they may grow in holiness
and draw their family ever closer to you.
Amen
Our Gospel today, Luke 9:18-24, presents St Luke’s version of the
“Great Confession.” It is the moment when Simon articulates his
belief that Jesus is “the Christ of God.” This was a breakthrough
moment for both Jesus and Simon. For Jesus it was an affirmation
that Simon in particular and the disciples in general had a glimmer
of understanding of who he was. For Simon it was a moment of
insight that would change his life forever. The story is told much
more dramatically in St Matthew’s gospel, Matthew 16:13-20.
Here after Simon declares his faith, Jesus says to him “Blessed are
you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this
to you, but my heavenly father. “Then Jesus does something
astounding, he gives Simon a new name and a new identity. “And
so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my
church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you
bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on
earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
St. Paul tells us in today’s second reading from Galatians 3:26-29
that when we are baptised we have clothed ourselves with Christ.
We are transformed people. We lose our distinctions and we all
become “one in Christ Jesus.” Since long before Jesus walked on
our earth until this very day Orthodox Jewish men begin the day
with a prayer that includes a line thanking God that “You have not
made me a Gentile, a slave or a woman.” St. Paul turned this
notion upside down by declaring that for those clothed with Christ
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free
person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ
Jesus.” So, like Simon when we become followers of Christ
we are changed. Our unity with Christ erases our individual
distinctions, unites us in love and makes us “heirs according to
the promise.”
Today is Father's Day. It is a day set aside for us to honor and
remember our fathers if they have died and to honor and thank our
father’s if they are still with us. The very first place we learn about
God’s love for us is in our homes. The very first people who
demonstrate God’s compassionate love for us are our parents.
Fathers have a special responsibility to make God’s love present to
their families, their communities and to our world. And so on this
day we say a special prayer for all fathers.
God our Father
Bless these men,
that they may find strength as fathers.
Let the example of their faith and love shine forth.
Grant that we, their sons and daughters,
may honor them always
with a spirit of profound respect.
Amen!

revolucionario y filósofo, reformador social, profeta notable, poeta
za no riñe con su vigor; su majestad no disuena frente a su humildad;

The Family: The Sanctuary of Life.
The family is the “Sanctuary of Life” and the
basic and vital cell of society. The Holy Family,
of course, is unique. One member is God, another
is sinless, and the third is a saint.
But the great lesson of today is that although God could have come
into the world in any way he pleased, he chose to become a mem-
ber of a family, obedient to his earthly parents, and yet totally
devoted to the Heavenly Father’s will, as we all must be.
He also shared the vulnerability that comes with being a member
of a human family. “Herod is going to search for the child in order
to destroy him.” St. Joseph here plays the unbelievable role of pro-
tecting God. His readiness to do so speaks to every father about the
role of protector, and to our whole society about the need we have
for good and faithful fathers. The culture of life depends just as
much on fathers making the right choices as on mothers doing so.
Strong families are an integral aspect of the Culture of Life. It is
precisely the breakdown of family structure that increases the
temptation to abort, or to resort to euthanasia or a lack of proper
care for the elderly.

“No one in the world can change Truth.
What we can do and should do is to seek truth
and to serve it when we have found it.”
The 20th century has been called the Century of Martyrs. Some
historians estimate that more people died for their faith in the 20th
century than the previous nineteen centuries combined. The 20th
century saw a massive amount of bloodshed from people who died
because of their faith. One of the most dramatic examples of these
martyrs is Saint Maximilian Kolbe, a Polish Franciscan priest who
offered his life in the Auschwitz death camp in exchange for the
life of another man, a husband and father.
Maximilian Kolbe saw the evil of both the Nazi fascism invading
Poland from the west and communism invading Poland from the
east. The squeezing of the Polish people was partly a military
effort, but perhaps more profoundly, it was an attempt to drain
Poland of its culture, which was decidedly Catholic. Totalitarian
regimes cannot tolerate an authoritative voice other than the state.
In response to the attack on the very life of the Polish faithful,
Maximilian Kolbe invested his time and energy into creating a
counter voice through print media and the formation of priests.
The saint knew that what faced Poland and the western world was
first and foremost a spiritual battle and thus needed a spiritual
response. In establishing various newspapers and houses of
formation, Maximilian Kolbe heroically and courageously stood up
to the secular powers of his time. His work showed that the politi-
cal powers may gain control of civil institutions, but they would
never and could never gain control of the human spirit.
This great priest must have known he risked his life, but it was a
risk he was willing to take in order to witness to the true dignity of
the human person. In the end, he did give up his life when he
offered to take the place of a father and husband who was to be
executed at Auschwitz. In his life and death, Fr. Kolbe achieved
victory over the lies of the totalitarian movements that tried to
redefine God’s created order. Totalitarian ideologies may appear
strong temporarily, but the martyr reveals that the human spirit,
strengthened by God’s grace, is stronger.
St. Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us!

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
is the process by which one becomes Catholic
and receives the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation & Eucharist).
What Does Catholic Teaching Have to do With Me?
Quite simply, Catholic teaching is
God’s answer to the deepest longings of
the human heart. It’s God’s answer to
the meaning of life and His invitation to
a whole new way of life beyond any-
thing we could ever imagine. As unbelievable as it may sound,
the Catholic life is a foretaste of Heaven on earth. It’s a sharing
in the Divine Life of God Himself, that gives us supernatural
abilities to live up to our high calling to be saints.

For the 2015/16 Faith Formation year 1,106 total students were enrolled (631 families total). We need 200+ Catechists to serve this number of students. Did you know that over 50% of our catechists did NOT have children in the 2015-16 school year program?? We are so blessed and thankful for their service. As of May 15 there are 300+ students registered but only a handful of catechists have committed to volunteer. We are asking for you to prayerfully consider donating your time to volunteer this year. There are opportunities at all skill levels in areas such as hospitality, teacher aides, classroom and hallway monitors and office aides. Thank you for your prayerful consideration.

Classes will be filled on a space available basis.
