HIV/AIDS IN BELARUS, AS 01.01.2017
As of January 1, 2017, 22 218 HIV/AIDS cases registered in the Republic of Belarus. In 2016,
2,391 HIV-infected patients were detected. The incidence rate was 25.2 per 100 thousand
population (in 2015 - 24.3).
The total number of cases of HIV infection in the age group 15-49 years is 20 699 people (the
proportion in the overall structure of HIV-positive - 93.2%). For 2016 - In the age group 15-49
years, 2 099 cases (87.8%) were registered.
According to the cumulative data (1987-01.01.2017) 37.5% (8,330 people) were infected
parenterally (with intravenous injection of drugs), the proportion of people who became
sexually infected was 60.2% (13 385 cases).

CONCLUSION:
- THE OUTBREAK OF HIV INFECTION IN MINSK WAS ASSOCIATED
WITH NEW SYNTHETIC DRUGS WITH AN INTRAVENOUS ROUTE OF
ADMINISTRATION;
- THE HIV OUTBREAK IN MINSK IS CAUSED BY THE “DOMESTIC"
A1 SUBTYPE;
- AT LEAST SEVEN DIFFERENT SOURCES OF INFECTION HAVE BEEN
IDENTIFIED;
- ALL HIV-INFECTED ARE CO-INFECTED WITH THE HEPATITIS C
VIRUS;
- IN MOST OF THE ANALYZED CASES, HIV-INFECTED PATIENTS
WERE INFECTED WITH THE HEPATITIS C VIRUS BEFORE;
- TWO PATIENTS WERE INFECTED WITH THE SAME D2
