Booksprovideanavenuethroughwhichknowledgehasbeenpasseddownfromonegenerationtothe
next,negotiatingmigration,memoryandsharing,allofwhicharehallmarksofbookhistory.Evenstill,
ourmanyidentitiesandtheenvironmentsinwhichweliveshiftwithadvancesinscience,technology
andtheriseofglobalization.Thismonth,weexplorethatintersectionalitybydrawingontextsrelating
toAfricanandAfricanAmericanhistoryfromourowncommunitywithhopesofbringingtogethera
multifacetedanduniquepictureofourpastandpresent.Ratherthanasingletimeline,wedesireto
portrayBlackHistorythroughawebofinterconnectivityandadynamicexchangeofthoughtbetweenmanygroupsofpeople,constructingacomplexandnuanced,ifnotunusual,narrative.Theexhibitalso
exploresbookdesignshape,size,color,text,organization,formatandmaterial,examininghowthe
visualcompositionofbooksmightimpactourcuriosity.
Thiscollaborativeeffortwillfeaturebooksonarangeoftopicsincludingthearts,history,science,
geography,language,economicsandpoliticsandallwillbeavailableforviewingintheirentirety.We
willhighlightspecificbooksanddrawinartiststohelpexpresshistoryandthewrittentextinavisual
way.
Wewouldliketoinviteyoutocontributetothe HistoryBoundcollection.Pleasechooseonebookthat
youthinkshouldbereadforBlackHistoryMonth.Thisselectioncanconnecttotheexhibitinanyway.Alongwitheachchoicepleasesubmit23sentencesaboutwhyyourbookshouldbeincluded:
