Introduction Our Grey en Nodular Cast Iron metal-seated plug valves Are available with flanged and female threaded connections and can be executed with an iron or bronze packed plug. Because of the metal seat and absence of polymers (e.g. Teflon) our plug valves are perfectly suited for high temperature applications up to +350°C at which the valves are still 100% tight. Our plug valves are available in, heated and unheated execution, 2-way, 3-way (T or L-plug) and sampling models. Our plug valves are manufactured in accordance with customer specification and can be used in all possible markets like, Shipbuild-ing, Chemical industry, Plant construction, Bitumen factories, Asphalt mixing plants, Chocolate factories etc. Our heated plug valve models in this brochure are specially designed for the bitumen processing industry. The design of our Bitumen sampling plug valve models in this brochure is patented. All heated plug valve models are executed with a mounting flange and can, in combination with our special mounting bracket (See 3D drawing) easily be automated or executed with a hand wheel operated gearbox. The tight sealing of our metal seated plug valves is achieved by accurate grinding and polishing of the plug and body seat area. Because of this accurate treatment we can guarantee a very good seal that will be tight at high and low temperatures. Every single metal seated plug valve is air pressure tested under water to check for seat leakage and only valves without any visible leakages during the duration of the test will be approved for delivery to the customer.

Our Grey and Nodular Cast Iron metal-seated 3-way plug valves can be delivered with a L-plug or T-plug, depending on the required switchpositions. In the nearby pictures 1 to 4 the possible switchpositions are shown for both L and T-plug models. Shut-off, distribution and mixing applications belong to the possibilities. For possible control applications we kindly ask you to contact us to discuss the possibilities and to provide a suitable solution for your situation. The hand lever operated model can easily be switched into all shown positions 1 to 4 putting all switchpositions at your disposal. When determining the switchpositions for automated or gearbox operated models you should take into account that standard gear-boxes and standard actuators can only switch over 90°. For applications where the limitation of switchpositions is not desirable we can execute the valves with special gearboxes and actuators (e.g. 180° 2 or 3 position pneumatic actuator). We kindly ask you to contact us to discuss the possibilities in these cases and provide a suitable solution for your situation.
Our Grey and Nodular Cast Iron metal-seated 2-way plug valves are mainly used in On-Off (Positions 1 and 2) applications as shown in the pictures nearby. Heated 2 and 3-way Plug Valves (Bitumen) Our heated plug valves are specially designed for fluids that need to be heated, for example because they are not viscous enough at normal ambient temperatures to transport or process. Our heated plug valves are especially used in Bitumen applications such as, Bitumen factories, Bitumen Tankers, Bitumen Tank Terminals and Asphalt mixing plants. Beside this application our heated plug valves can also be used for other applications such as Chocolate plants or for crystalizing media etc. The integrally casted to the body heating jacket is made of Nodular Cast Iron (GGG-40). The heated valves are not available in Grey Cast Iron and are only produced in Nodular Cast Iron.
Why Cast Iron ? Cast Iron is an excellent thermal conductor, because of this property cast iron is widely used for kitchen appliances such as stoves, furnaces, grills and frying-pans. For example, a steel frying-pan transfers the “included heat” directly to the product in the pan at low frequency. Cast Iron only starts transferring its “included heat” after the material itself has absorbed enough heat and after it is sufficiently saturated with heat. This property is called the “accumulating effect” of cast iron. The transferred heat, transferred by the cast iron after satura-tion, has a higher frequency than the heat that is required for heating up the cast iron up until saturation. These high frequency vibrations penetrate deeper into the product that needs to be heated (e.g. Bitu-men) than the low frequency vibrations as mentioned earlier in the steel pan example. Because of this the product is heated much more efficient compared to using steel. Cast iron has the eccentric and for heated valves very desirable property to convert low frequency vibra-tions into the much more efficient high frequency vibrations which are transferred efficiently in to the product that needs to be heated. This property makes cast iron the material for our heated plug valves. Heating methods Our heated 2 and 3-way plug valves can be heated by 3 different methods, namely; Image 1 : Heating by means of Thermal Oil or Steam. The heating jacket is executed with an Oil/Steam inlet and outlet flange connection DN25-PN10/16. The through flow of the hot Thermal Oil or Steam heats up the cast iron jacket and valve body which at its turn transfers the heat in high frequency into the fluid, heating up the fluid or keeping the fluid temperature on level. Image 2: Heating by means of Electric Heating Cartridges. The solid heating jacket is executed with 4 holes in which the cartridges are mounted. The electric heating cartridges heat up the cast iron jacket and valve body which at its turn transfers the heat in high frequency into the fluid, heating up the fluid or keeping the fluid temperature on level. Image 3: Heating by means of Electric Heating Plates or Cables. In this case the valve is delivered without heating jacket, the electric heating plates or cables are mounted directly onto the valve body. The electric heating plates or cables heat up the cast iron valve body which at its turn transfers the heat in high frequency into the fluid, heating up the fluid or keeping the fluid temperature on level.

Sampling plug valve (Bitumen) Specially for fluids that need to be heated, for example because they are not viscous enough at normal ambient tem-peratures to transport or process, and that need to be checked on quality regularly the “Heated Sampling Plug Valve” has been designed. Our heated sampling plug valve is especially used in Bitumen applications such as, Bitumen factories, Bitumen Tankers, Bitumen Tank Terminals and Asphalt mixing plants. Beside this application our heated sampling plug valves can also be used for other applications such as Chocolate plants or for crystalizing media etc. The integrally casted to the body heating jacket is made of Nodular Cast Iron (GGG-40). The heated sampling valves are not availa-ble in Grey Cast Iron and are only produced in Nodular Cast Iron. The sampling valve is a special design 3-way valve as shown in the pic-ture nearby. This valve can be delivered with (Thermal Oil/Steam, Electric Cartridges, Electric Plates or Cables) and without heating jacket. The sampling valve is used together with the sampling cup. The cup can contain samples of 2 to 3 litres or less and has 2 long handles to easily carry the cup and minimize heat effects. Below you can find a detailed description of the operation of the sampling system. Beside this accepted model we can also provide customer specific sampling systems, please contact us to discuss the possibilities and to provide a suitable solution for your situation.
General information In de image nearby (image 4) a number of general properties of the 3- way sampling plug valve are being explained. If this sampling valve is being used in a continuous process where interruption of the heated fluid flow is not allowed or desirable, it is advisable to mount a by-pass as shown in below image 6. Using this system guarantees continuous availability of the heated fluid.
