Lessons from HPWREN
• Interdisciplinary projects are extremely beneficial– Need cross-disciplinary understanding to make progress
• Measurement analysis to assess and adapt system– Bandwidth constraints
– Prioritization - QOS
• Testbed for operational and prototype sensor networks– Use existing wireless and networking technologies whenever
possible
– Wide range of climate and environment
– Innovate and develop sensor connectivity and processing
– Variety of testbeds needed for next generation wireless
and networking

ROADNet DevelopmentROADNet DevelopmentROADNet DevelopmentROADNet Development• The Problem:
– Integrated real-time management of large, distributed, heterogeneous data streams from sensor networks
• … e.g.– integration: handling of heterogeneous data from multiple
(signal) domains, interfacing with sensors and data loggers to acquire streams
– real-time processing: monitor streams of data, detect events, trigger computations and other actions
– distribution: federate multi-domain sensor and embedded system networks for transparent access
– persistent large-scale archival and querying of “consolidated” data packets
