Headteacher: Mr Darren Jones
No. 6
Headteacher Message
This term seems to have passed by very quickly but has been filled with a
plethora of exciting and creative events. We have enjoyed many delightful class
assemblies replete with great acting and singing! Poetry and drama have been
a key focus this term and children have been studying great works, writing
their own poems and performing in
a poetry slam in front of the whole
school. We have been fortunate to
have had a number of poet visits
and workshops which the children
have enjoyed tremendously.
We are extremely proud of our Year 6 children who worked extremely hard to
complete their SATs tests last week. They enjoyed a lovely afternoon
swimming at Brentford Leisure Centre and have lots of exciting things in the
pipeline. I know we are all looking forward to watching their end of year
production Peter Pan which will be spectacular! Year 2 children have also been
working hard with their SATs too – very well done and I know they are soon off
to Legoland to celebrate their endeavours.
Many trips and visits have taken place this term.
Year 3 have been exploring nature and team
building in Perivale and Year 4 have been to Go
Ape. Earlier in the term Nursery, Reception and
Key Stage 1 enjoyed the visit from the ’Nite
Owls’ and learnt a lot about owls and wildlife!
We all enjoyed Grove Park’s Got Talent
this afternoon, where children excelled in
a variety of areas and great fun was had
by all! Congratulations to the winners and
well done to all who took part.
I wish you all a happy and restful half term.

Hooray!!
So, after much hard-work and sweat., Oak Class have completed their SATs tests that they have been preparing
for since September. It has to be said that they made us extremely proud and took their chance to demonstrate
how wonderfully talented they are. They were calm, they were determined, and they were overjoyed once the
week had finished. As a treat for their hard work, Oak Class went swimming at Brentford Leisure Centre, which
was fantastic as they had full use of the water slide and pool.
Now it is time for us to focus on our next big milestone - the Year 6 production, which this year is Peter
Pan. Auditions have already begun. Again, they have demonstrated not only how talented our Year 6 are
academically, but also how many other skills they possess, such as singing and acting. They have certainly made
it a tough choice for the Year 6 staff to choose roles.
We are looking forward to our final half-term here at Grove Park,
with lots of important things to look forward to. I am sure the
class will make the most of their final few weeks at primary
school, and make lasting memories that they will take with them
into the future and carry for a lifetime.
Mr Hibbert - Year 6 Class Teacher
The School Council Welcome Lucy, Our Kitchen Manager!
On Tuesday 22nd May the School Council headed to our Outdoor Classroom in the
playground for a lovely, sunny meeting with Lucy. Lucy has the huge task of
providing the school lunches for the whole school and had kindly taken time out
of her busy day to hear the School Council’s comments and suggestions. What a
lot of fabulous suggestions and ideas there were! We talked about having Taco
Tuesdays, Fajita and Fruity Fridays and Pizza Days. We also discussed having
more theme days, for example to recognise the upcoming World Cup in Russia or
even significant Star Wars Days (Mr Charlesworth and Mr Hardman will be very
pleased!). The team were very excited to hear that, after half term, Lucy is
hoping to organise a big, outdoor Picnic Party with music. Look out for the date!
In the meantime we can look forward to a delicious Russian themed lunch on Thursday 14th June to mark the
beginning of the Football World Cup. We were very proud to see that, even with all this excitement, the School
Council were particularly keen to make sure we reduce our use of plastic packaging. Lucy will make sure to
explore this thoroughly. A very big thank you to Lucy for joining this
special meeting and for all her wonderful enthusiasm! Also a big thank
you must go to Deborah and Mr Hardman for taking the time to join
us as well. Our next task will be to agree a date for our fabulous Picnic
Party and to make sure we create some wonderful posters to
advertise the event. Your School Council will be back in touch with
more detail soon!

Go Ape
Year 4 have been swinging from the treetops on our teambuilding visit to Go Ape in Battersea Park. The
children were all incredibly brave and supportive of one another, coaxing each other on and celebrating
achievements! Erik in Birch Class exclaimed, “The zip wire is EPIC!” as he flew like superman through the air.
“This is the best trip I have ever been on,” declared Winter while some exhausted children snoozed all the
way back to school. What a day!

Library
At Grove Park we love literature, stories, books and reading. In addition to each
class having an inviting and engaging reading area, we are lucky enough to have a
simply stunning library. Our wonderful Miss Elena is our Librarian and we can’t
thank her enough for her hard work in keeping the library so immaculate and
eye-catching.
Miss Elena creates different themes for the library throughout the year and this
half-term it has been all about ‘Pirates’!
The children have once again loved their visits to the library and visitors to our
school always leave saying it is a feature of Grove Park that they will remember!
Some of the children are also librarians and they help their peers choose,
take and return books.
We wonder what the theme will be next half-term?...

Walk, Scoot or Ride
With Healthy Schools week coming up (4-8th June) why not think
about how you can be more active outside school and getting to
school. If you normally go by car could you come on your bike,
scooter, walk or run to school? We have lots of cycle and scooter
parking and a pump you can use at the front of the school.
Please remember that children are only allowed to have healthy
snacks for morning playtime e.g. fruit, vegetables or healthy (no
chocolate) NUT FREE cereal bars. We have noticed that some children
are bringing in crisps, cookies and sweets.
Yum yum in my tum!!
School lunches for the Summer Term are now available to be paid on Parent-
mail (PMX).
Unless you’re Free School Meals everyone in Years 3-6 is required to pay
for school meals. If you have changed your child’s lunch provision to a
packed lunch then let the office know promptly.
Please ensure that school lunches are paid up-to date and remember that payment is due in advance of meals
being taken.
Important reminder!
Please be reminded that because
of children's severe allergies, this
school is a Nut and Kiwi free
zone. This includes in your child’s lunchbox, boxes of
chocolates and birthday cake.
Thank you.
A Tweet from this week!
Another great example from Sally in #Year6: “Mum and Dad came back from the hospital, their torn faces said everything; my heart was per-plexed and yet I knew. I knew that my sister would never play or race me, or laugh, or even... cry.” #CreativeWriting #Perfect

Please be reminded that the yellow zig zag lines outside of the school entrance are there for a purpose. They
are there to ensure that the school entrance is clear and everyone can arrive to school safely. If there is no
parking on St. Thomas Road please park a few streets away and walk the last part of your journey.
Being late to school is not an excuse to park on the yellow zig zag lines.
