MOUNT GAMBIER April 2019 Newsletter
Youth Week
headspace Mount Gambier hosted 2 successful events for
Youth Week 2019. Chill & Chat was held on Wednesday 10
April at Metro Bakery & Café where 60+ young people
came along and mingled and enjoying a free soft drink or
milkshake and delicious bite size treat while listening to
talented local band, Skyline Haze. Young people were
asked to share their own thoughts of how they participate
and celebrate by creatively putting it on canvas.
The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly with many
people stepping out of their comfort zone and meeting
new people and some even got up and had a boogie! The
young people in attendance shared positive feedback
about the afternoon and look forward to the event next
year.
The Amazing Race was held on Wednesday, April 17.
Over 60 young people participated in the event
which saw the attendees brave the wet weather to
try a range of activities while making their way along
the Mount Gambier Rail Trail. A majority of the
activities were held at The Rail Lands before
participants made the final dash to the finish line at
the Cave Gardens.
A huge thank you to all involved in The Amazing
Race from the 60+ participants, the service providers
who hosted pit stops & activities as well as providing
the participants snacks and drinks to keep them
fuelled. We also acknowledge the contributions from
businesses who provided us with vouchers for award
winners.

Planning Day – ‘Camping Out’
headspace Mount Gambier recently held its scheduled
planning day at the Mount Gambier Racecourse, in line with
the anniversary of its 3rd year of operation. Over 30
headspace staff, volunteers and external stakeholders spent
the day reflecting on past year achievements and guiding
the most important needs of the service into plans for the
next phase. Breakout sessions around our virtual camping
spaces made for a creative and less formal day of sharing.
A highlight of our achievements include the ever-growing
number of young volunteers who work in our Youth
Reference Group and the Youth Ambassador Program.
Attendees took part in an interactive art piece which
involved using recycled beach debris and creating a
Jellyfish. This Jellyfish is now on display in the
reception area of our centre as pictured below.
The maintenance in the reception area has recently been
completed. We have removed the partitioned booths to make
the space feel bigger and more inviting to sit. We have added
a rack for visitors to the centre to help themselves to food,
should they need it. The showpiece of the area is the Jellyfish
hanging from the ceiling which was created from recycled
beach debris by the headspace team.
