HAPPY MARCH BIRTHDAYS!I sincerely hope and pray that all Ormond Beach

It was also nice to see the RVs parked in our parking lot again. Normalcy is what we all needed after Matthew.

I would like to thank all the volunteers who assisted in the Kitchen clean up done on the weekend of October 29. Thanks to Mike Stickney for organizing it.

Did you all have fun at the Oktoberfest? Did you have a good laugh at Professor Schnitzel? And wasn’t the German menu great?

Several committees still need chair persons and they are as follows:

Community Project & Activities Subcommittee, Fraternal Committee, Government Relations Subcommittee, State Major Project Subcommittee, By-Laws. If you need clarification as to the purpose and what may be involved in chairing any of the above committees, please feel free to visit the Secretary’s Office and request a copy of the purpose of the committee you are interested in chairing. Thank you goes out to the members who volunteered to chair orientation - Derek Hill—and Scholarship—Liz Queen and Jackie Andrews.

Although we do need chairpersons, I would like to request of some dedicated member to volunteer to me to be the Lodge Esquire. This is a very important and vital chair position for the ritual. Since we are attempting to perform the long version of the ritual due to the DD’s request to perform it at our November 17 meeting during the DD Audit. The esquire is the key chair for the proper and correct performance of the required ritual. Thank you in advance.

As ER, I will be attending the Florida Elks midyear convention at the Marriot in Winter Park on November 10-12. If you have any questions, concerns etc., that you would like to ask the State of Florida or express to the State, please put them in writing so that I might present them or inquire to the proper state chairperson of the committee concerned.

Thank you goes out to all volunteers. The membership is really stepping up to the plate. Please continue all your positive efforts.

Fraternally yours Patricia Hubert, ER

FEBRUARY 2017 ER MESSAGE

ER Message 03-01-17February was full of many exciting events. Mike’s sandwiches are still doing well on a Sun-day afternoon. Good turnout again for the draw. Thank you, Sandy Rice again for volunteering to run it.Lovely to see so many attend the Valentines Dinner Dance. Thank you all for coming! Spe-cial thanks to Jackie and John Andrews and Geri Madden for chairing it.A great big thank you to all the volunteers who rolled their sleeves up and helped clean the kitchen. Maybe we could make this a weekly event on Saturday. Linda Cote, the Lodge Cus-todial Engineer, of course, is doing an excellent job as always and worked many extra hours to see to the kitchen cleanliness. Kudos to all.Great news Maria DeArmon came up with an

idea to form a kitchen committee. She is chairing it with Dwayne Rossi, Mike Stick-ney, Gerri Madden and Ida Dennison as members. They have been hard at work already not only cleaning the kitchen but devising new menus for lunch and dinner. Also, I have appointed Ray Revilla as Bar manager. Thank you Ray for accepting the position. On February 10 and 11, I attended the Florida Quarterly at the Florida Elks Youth Camp in Umatilla FL. I sat in at several workshops and seminars. Have good news about applications for the youth camp. They are on line and the parents can fill them out themselves and submit them. The Secretary’s office did receive six schol-arship certificates for campers. If you know of a family that has children between the ages of 9 and 13, please inform them that they can go on line at www.feyc.org and fill out the application. During the enrollment process, they will need to choose our lodge, Ormond Beach #2193, for sponsorship, then enter the following informa-tion: Our sponsoring member name is________________ Our sponsoring member number is________________. In this way, our lodge will get the credit. As far as I know the Ormond Beach Auxiliary of Aerie #4435, has been raising money for camp scholarships. In the end, they should have enough money raised for ten campers. This will enable our lodge to sponsor 16 campers. Let us try hard in this endeavor. Perhaps the lodge could also have a fund raiser for this purpose.Still needed are the following Chair Person:Community Project & Activities Subcommittee, Fraternal Committee, Government Relations Subcommittee, State Major Project Subcommittee and By-Laws. Thank you in advance.I have enjoyed, really truly, being Exalted Ruler these seven months. I wish this lodge all the best for the future. I know we all have come together for the greater good. Please, let’s keep this up for the fiscal year 2017-2018.Fraternally yours,Pat Hubert, ER

FUN AND INTERESTING FACT ABOUT THE BPOE:

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America is one of the oldest and largest fraternal organizations in the country. Since its inception in 1868, the Order of Elks has grown to include more than 1 million men and women in more than 2,100 communities. The BPO Elks is committed to the ideals of charity and patriotism. To that end, Elks have now disbursed, over the course of the Order's history, more than $3.6 billion in cash, goods, and services to the nation's youth, its veterans, the disadvantaged and handicapped, and to individuals and groups in support of patriotic and civic programs. Annually the BPO Elks give more than $200 Million in this fashion, and the Order ranks as one of the largest private providers of college scholarships in the nation. The Elks have created a quiet network of good deeds that has profoundly changed millions of lives for the better, yet there is little public awareness of the impact of their vital work. Why is this so? Quite simply, the Elks have rarely sought recognition; nor have they gone to the general public with fund-raising efforts nor received monies from any level of government. Indeed, the flow of money and goods moves in the opposite direction: the Elks donated to the government the first veterans hospital; they contribute regularly to schools and police and fire departments; and they assist the young and the needy throughout this great nation. How could this powerful force have come into being? And where does all this charitable giving come from? From the generous hearts of Elks members whose eagerness to share, whose prudent long-term planning, and whose willingness to serve for free and with enthusiasm infuses the Order with an exuberant and enduring expression of the true volunteer spirit.

Welcome to February, the month of Super Bowls, Sweethearts, and preparation for Racers and Bikers!

I thank all our volunteers for another successful month, but we are still in our busier season so I will asking for help again.

Our monthly breakfast is the second Sunday of the month so don’t come a week early unless you want to wait for Mike’s Special Sandwiches. Our monthly drawing is the 7th this month and would be worth your while to attend if you feel lucky. Bingo is the 9th and the 23rd.

Our Super Bowl party is the 5th and should be fun with drink specials and some wagering. Drawing for the TV and Basket of Cheer at the conclusion of the game.

The 11th is The St Valentine Party and with an inspired dinner that will be a leap from Mike’s Special Sandwiches. Jackie and John Andrews are committee chairpersons and menu the menu is delivered by Sandy O’Rourke and her son, Guy.

Our family dinners are still our biggest draw, but we could use some help on Wednesday. Any suggestions (within reason) would be appreciated.

Once again, thank you to our volunteers.

Fraternally Yours,

Mike Stickney

Hello Everyone! After a few days of distraught and conflict, I came to my senses and regained the position of Chairman of the House Committee. I am sorry for my indecision and hope you all know that I have the best interest of this Lodge in all that I attempt. We have had a successful month and I want to thank our great volunteers. Our Bingo and Friday night dinners are the best of the year and I thank our members and snow birds and guests for their participation. March and bike week are here and we welcome both. St. Patty’s Day is one of my favorite celebrations and I hope all will join us. Since it is falling on a Friday night dinner we will be featuring our Corned Beef and Cabbage as our leading menu choice. Other items will be available. We have chosen to condense our daily and weekly evening menus so please check out the offerings. We decided to try something to add a little variety. Our Prime Rib will still be featured at least twice monthly. My Sunday Sandwiches are continuing and presently we have some great sounding “jammers” entertaining most of the afternoon. Please join us for the food, fun and frolic!
