Challenge - Slow SteamingChallenges:

• Slow steaming has become order of the day

• Yet most engines are not built for slowsteaming

• Danger of over lubrication

• At lower RPMs, cold corrosion is likely to happen, unless the engine is equipped with cylinder lubricators that are designed to meet slowsteaming requirements

Solution:

BN is needed to neutralize acids. You do not need more oil, but better use and distribution. Injection frequency should be 1:1

• More and more engines with Super- and Ultra Long Stroke.

• Cylinder liners on G-engines are more challenging to lubricate adequately.

• Prone to extensive wear due to the long distance from injection point to TDC

• All shipowners required to have a Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP).

• Article 4.27 of the official IMO guideline for SEEMP (ANNEX 19) states:

”Additional means to improve engine efficiency might include […] Adjustment of cylinder lubrication oil consumption…”
