HALLUCINATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH BACLOFEN

A 72-year-old female with paralysisagitanswas treated with levodopa,'Sinemet'and orphenadrine for 9 years. Temporary boutsof confusionhad beennoted: twiceafter alterations in 'Sinemerdosage. A trial of baclofen 'Lioresal' for) week, 3 yearspreviously, was ineffective. Baelofen Smgtidwas-latergiven in additionto her usual therapy to control painful thigh contractions.After 3doses the patientbecameacutelyconfused,agitatedand hallucinated. Baclofen was stopped. The next night she had arecurrenceof agitationand confusion:After 2.dosesof 2.Smgbaclofenthe nextday,anxietyand hallucinations with paranoidfeatures reappeared. No further baclofen was given. 'The manufacturersdo not recommend the use ofbaclofen in the treatmentofparalysis agitans. '
