station to monitor wastewater discharge with
confidence for local regulatory, industrial
parks and companies

Who is the client?
Client in this case study would cover the regulatory sector, industrial parks and industrial company. This is due to a
regulation according to Vietnam’s 1994 Law on Environmental Protection (LEP) and Circular No. 08/2009/TT-
BTNMT (revised by Circular No. 48/2011/TT-BTNMT), that they have to install an automatic system for online
monitoring on their treated wastewater when exceed a certain limit.
What is the challenge?

Client requires online monitoring system monitoring pH, COD, TSS as compulsory parameters. The parameters that
client would test for are pH, temperature, TSS, conductivity and COD
Industrial Company
Client has its system built at the sewage treatment station in the factory and with >1000m3/day, it requires online
monitoring system monitoring pH, COD, TSS as compulsory parameters.
What is the process and Hach’s solution to client?
Regulatory
The department pledges strict control of industrial wastewater discharged from 24 industrial parks and 40 largest
industrial manufacturers around the province.
• Department install automatic monitoring systems and cameras to observe discharge of industrial
wastewater
• Installation done at selective facilities: Vietnam-Singapore IP, Dong An, Viet Huong, Song Than, Song Than
and My Phuoc.
• System established according to Vietnam’s 1994 Law on Environmental Protection (LEP) and Circular No.
08/2009/TT-BTNMT (revised by Circular No. 48/2011/TT-BTNMT)
• Requires online monitoring of compulsory parameters like pH, COD, TSS, EC
• Depends on environmental impact assessment, environmental protection commitment of industrial zone
• Required to monitor more parameters such as EC, color, heavy metals, etc.,
• Data from online monitoring system is transferred to management station installed in Binh Duong to
detect and alarm when wastewater quality exceeds standardized level.
Hach’s total solution package for client is a Hach sc1000 controller and it is installed with 4 Hach sensors: Hach
pHD sc Sensor (testing pH and Temperature), Hach 3700 Inductive Conductivity Sensor (testing conductivity), Hach
Solitax sc Sensor (testing total suspended solids) and Hach UVAS sc Sensor (testing COD).

Industrial Park
The enterprise who manages industrial parks must install an automatic system for online monitoring their treated
wastewater according to Vietnam’s 1994 Law on Environmental Protection (LEP) and Circular No. 08/2009/TT-
BTNMT (revised by Circular No. 48/2011/TT-BTNMT).

industrial park. In this case, we would see five different industrial parks with different requirements.
Client Case-study No. 1
It requires online monitoring pH, COD, TSS as compulsory parameters and one auto-sampler at in the system. Data
from online monitoring system is transferred to management station installed in Department of Natural Resources
and Environment of Dong Nai province to detect and alarm when wastewater quality exceeds standardized level.
Client has the online monitoring station installed in centralized effluent treatment plant of Nhon Trach III, Tam
Phuoc and Bau Xeo.
Hach’s total solution package for client is a Hach sc1000 controller and it is installed with 4 Hach sensors: Hach
pHD sc Sensor (testing pH and Temperature), Hach 3700 Inductive Conductivity Sensor (testing conductivity), Hach
Solitax sc Sensor (testing total suspended solids), Hach UVAS sc Sensor (testing COD) and Hach Sigma SD900
Portable Auto Sampler.

Client Case-study No. 2
The enterprise who manages industrial parks must install an automatic system for online monitoring their treated
wastewater according to Vietnam’s 1994 Law on Environmental Protection (LEP) and Circular No. 08/2009/TT-
BTNMT (revised by Circular No. 48/2011/TT-BTNMT). It requires online monitoring pH, COD, TSS as compulsory
parameters. Currently, Ho Chi Minh City is building a management center to get real-time data. Client’s installed
the online monitoring station at Tan Thuan export processing zone, wastewater treatment plant, with a capacity of
10, 000 m3/day.
Hach’s total solution package for client is a Hach sc1000 controller and it is installed with 3 Hach sensors: Hach
pHD sc Sensor (testing pH and Temperature), Hach Solitax sc Sensor (testing total suspended solids) and Hach
UVAS sc Sensor (testing COD).

Client Case-study No. 3
The enterprise who manages industrial parks must install an automatic system for online monitoring their treated
wastewater according to Vietnam’s 1994 Law on Environmental Protection (LEP) and Circular No. 08/2009/TT-
BTNMT (revised by Circular No. 48/2011/TT-BTNMT). The customer has installed process instruments for their
online monitoring their treated wastewater station as well as for treatment processes control. It is being installed
at Long Duc Industrial Park, centralized wastewater treatment plant.
Hach’s total solution package for client is a Hach sc1000 controller and it is installed with 3 Hach sensors: Hach
pHD sc Sensor (testing pH and Temperature), Hach Solitax sc Sensor (testing total suspended solids) and Hach
UVAS sc Sensor (testing COD). Besides, client also has a Hach sc200 controller with Hach pH/ORP Analyzer GLI P33
Sensor (testing pH) and the Hach IntelliCAL LDO101 Standard Probe (testing DO) installed at the aero-tank and
conditioning tank.

Client Case-study No. 4

BTNMT (revised by Circular No. 48/2011/TT-BTNMT). It requires online monitoring pH, COD, TSS as compulsory
parameters and one auto-sampler at in the system. Client’s installation place is Khai Quang Industrial Park,
concentrated waste water treatment plant, capacity of 4000 m3/day.

pHD sc Sensor (testing pH and Temperature), Hach Solitax sc Sensor (testing total suspended solids), Hach UVAS sc

Client Case-study No. 5
The enterprise who manages industrial parks must install an automatic system for online monitoring their treated
wastewater according to Vietnam’s 1994 Law on Environmental Protection (LEP) and Circular No. 08/2009/TT-
BTNMT (revised by Circular No. 48/2011/TT-BTNMT). It requires online monitoring pH, COD, TSS as compulsory
parameters and one auto-sampler at in the system. Client’s installation place is at An Nghiep Industrial Park Waste
Water Treatment Plant with capacity of 5000 m3/day.
Hach’s total solution package for client is a Hach sc1000 controller and it is installed with 3 Hach sensors: Hach
pHD sc Sensor (testing pH and Temperature), Hach Solitax sc Sensor (testing total suspended solids), Hach UVAS sc
Sensor (testing COD) and HOAB Automatic Cleaning System.

Industrial Company
The system is built at sewage treatment station in the factory with a total capacity of 16, 000m3/day, receiving
sewage of daily activities and production for businesses operating in the area.
Hach’s total solution package for client is a Hach sc1000 controller and it is installed with 4 Hach sensors: Hach
pHD sc Sensor (testing pH and Temperature), Hach Solitax sc Sensor (testing total suspended solids), Hach UVAS sc
Sensor (testing COD) and Hach LDO2 Luminescent Dissolved Oxygen Sensors (testing DO).
